When both Velcoro and Bezzerides spotted the fire behind the driver's house, I was seriously hoping for another mad DV filmed night sequence shot

I agree. I thought his acting job was both harder and better performed. Harrelson had to show more range, MM mostly just had to look troubled and cool.
Harrelson wasn't tested in S1 I think. He was basically playing the straight man, so was excused from having to do nonsense segues into meaningless blathering monologues.

It's a testament to MM that he could make meaningless blathering monologues out of nowhere look compelling.

The difference is pretty obvious comparing to this season - every actor who has tried it has looked like an idiot.

What kind of riot ammunition was this? Just bean bag I assume? When it comes to buck shot isnt there different powders that make the damage much less?

Alright Season 2 sucks. The writing is not even close to as good as the first season and Vince Vaughan is fucking terrible. How the hell did this show fall so far from grace so fast?

And why the fuck was Deadwood cancelled after 3 seasons? Goddamnit!

Yeaaaa.... I cant really defend this show anymore. Unless these last 4 episodes are spectacular, this season will be a disappointment.

lol yea. Like im actually kind of astonished at how they are decided to utilize their screen time. VV getting a bunch of screen time as a gangster getting his groove back sounds like a really bad skit on a late night comedy but is actually a real thing, not only that but the scenes with his wife about her getting pregnant is insufferable.

Velcoro is still awesome and the shootout kind of got things moving finally, but besides that, and maybe the meeting with McAdams' dad showing old pictures of mayor with shrink, the rest of the episode was terrible.

WHat was up with the homo scene with Woodrough and the veteran guy? Did he just get roaring drunk and somehow met back up with the guy and had gay sex with him? Like I dont get it. He seemed pretty upset about it afterwards so im assuming he didnt just "spend the night" at a buddies house after a bender.

He ran into him at the club where he was boozing and talking to the male prostitutes. Seemed pretty clear exactly what happened with the "I'm glad I ran into you at the club."

Well, they didn't manage to hit ALL the civilians.

I assume the rest of the season will be the three stooges writing parking tickets.

Don't get the hate, loved this episode. Still like VV, him and Velcoro both had some great quotes in this episode. Loved how Woodrugh after the shootout was all like "yeah, all clear" while Velcoro and Ani were overwhelmed.

VV definitely pushing to the max, although I wish they'd show a little more the clock ticking on him whether or not he can still get back into the land deal for the rail project. He's going to overextend, and there will be some showdown between him and Velcoro. Weird part is I think he actually likes Velcoro, and respects his desire for revenge on the guy that raped his ex wife. Not that he wasn't trying to take advantage of it, but that he still has a soft spot for Velcoro over it.

Slow burn for all the connections between the particular people in power in and around Vinci continued, wonder if mayor really had anything to do with the sexual misconduct charge against Ani or if it was just sour grapes from the subordinate cop fling because he's pissed she dropped him over not letting her fuck him in the ass or whatevs. Seems clear they're hinting at her and Velcoro getting pushed together more, she pretty much severed ties with her partner after the whole reveal that they fucked and that he pretty much dumped his marriage over it and his feelings he still has for her. Not that she gives a fuck.

While the shootout did seem to be a bit of a nod to the incredible single tracking scene from season 1 (also in episode 4), still liked it a lot other than the one part of the episode that really bothered me. How fucking stupid was it for a bunch of cops going in for a raid to be just strolling along in a line quite clearly in sight of the target building taking essentially no precautions? Inevitably a bunch of them got capped, was kind of surprised Deadwood Detective got the head shot, thought we'd get a bit more of a reveal as to him following Woodrugh (noticed he was giving him a funny look at the pawn shop when they found the watch too) before he bought it...but fuck man every other cop who wasn't in the Big 3 was basically a red shirt for that raid.

Vaughns getting better each epidsode. Favorite part was Woodrugh at the enf of the shootout. Still think theres a good chance the blue diamonds are what kicked everything off

Thought Klitch did a great job acting this episode and love his expressions during the shootout.

Still think the Doctor is birdman but I guess it could be Blake. He seems to like Velcoro and would explain why birdman didnt kill him. Really want to see how all this is connected

Seems pretty likely that was a setup at the end (though the extent of the carnage was surely not expected). Still, not sure where it goes from here. The case will be declared closed by the higher ups in Vinci since the would-be perp is dead and the remaining trio would likely be on paid leave. What will make them keep pressing on or even allow them to do so?

Really awkward pacing and timing throughout this episode and we're still not really very far into the larger mystery. I don't think VV is terrible but his story so far still feels out of place.
