Yeah, he was working behind the bar with Frank when he gave Ray the photo of the rapist. He set Ray up obviously since he signals his goons to follow Ray after he storms out

Sure that scene last season wasn't perfect. The difference is there was unique dialogue and a story that worked. The amount of good in the show made up for some badly choreographed scene.
You also don't see scenes like that done as one continuous take very often and it makes it feel different as a viewer. I'm willing to cut it some slack when some of the parts aren't pulled off as well as they could have been when the director has the balls to go for it on a shot as long as that one was. Sure they could have done it with edits and cuts to clean up the missteps, but it would have come off like any number of other shoot out escapes we've seen before.

It has higher viewers then almost all of season 1 so its probably fine. Whats funny is how many people say they were hooked by episode 1 but obviously that wasnt the case rating wise.
Those people didn't know good television when they saw it. They had to wait for the buzz to build on social media before they came back to it wondering what they had missed.

Just now and earlier in the thread he complained about Ray not having any repercussions for beating up someone because he thinks cops dont get away with shit like that in the US. Ray is in one the most corrupt cities in the US, on top of that the father or news reporter have no clue who he is and he lives in a different fucking city. And there was repercussions from his wife, losing his son, and possibly one of the reasons hes seeing a lawyer this week. It's the who reason Ray has his redemption story, and so what if people like ray, people liked Marty last season and he was a horrible piece of shit

There was so many fuck ups in the one track shot last season and no one nitpicked and bitched about that like they are every little thing this season
After so many posts where people bitched and whined people were bringing up last season, you're really going to try to defend this show by nitpicking last season?

Anyhow, a known dirty cop goes to the house of the kid bullying his kid, threatens the kid, assaults the kid, kicks the shit out of the father, threatens to kill the wife, cut off her head, and buttfuck the father in front of a child... and you don't think someone, anyone at all would have at least brought that up? And your defense is they just don't know who he is? Not that, perhaps, they're afraid to snitch, but they don't know who he is? You know, despite Velcro TELLING THE FATHER HE WAS WITH THE POLICE.

Oh, but you think a corrupt local government really wants someone like Velcro bringing that sort of heat onto them?

If you were smarter, you'd just argue they're too scared to say anything (except to the mom, apparently?) instead of burying your head up Nic's ass trying to argue it's just that nobody knows who he is. Because I'm pretty sure I could solve that investigation by asking the kid one question: hey did you pick on any kids at school and have that kid's father come to your house, tell you he was a cop, threaten you, assault you, refer very clearly to your bullying of his kid, before nearly killing your dad, and threatening to rape your dad after beheading your mom? Oh, yeah, you mean THAT kid?! Yeah, that rings a bell!

Maybe the difference is how people react to Velcro vs Marty is Marty's character was written well, better acted, and more plausible?

People are retarded this season and bitching about stuff like mexicans blowing up there building which they didnt because they are too stupid to realize it was a meth lab even though Ray brought up that it must be a meth lab
The complaint isn't that a potential meth lab exploded, it's that a good television show would have let us know there was a meth lab in there to explode so we understood the risks the characters were taking by going in there. Not, uhh, having a sudden explosion that threatened nobody and was only there to look cool and needing another character explain to the viewer what might have happened.

And it doesn't matter. There was no reason for them to be there under those pretenses or context in the first place. They were there because explosions and shootouts are cool.

This thread started out with a lot of shitposting by him but now it's matched or outdone by the shitposting of others about him. And even usually when he shitposts (especially recently, since he's dialed it back some), he still throws in some actual things to talk about if (though, yeah, his communication style doesn't really engender a good-natured dialogue). Trust me, I'm about the farthest person to defend him on this site, but it's reached the point where most others are no better if not worse in terms of actually contributing to a discussion.
You love me! You really love me! =D

Police sometimes kill with impunity in real life and you are hung up on a cop beating someone up.

Yeah, in real life guns are also on mantles and never get fired. In fiction, when you present something then don't do anything with it, it's considered shitty writing.

Let's forget the fact this is a tv show. How often do you think a drunk, dirty cop waltzes into a middle class neighborhood and does all that on someone's front yard and the only repercussions is somehow the estranged wife was told about it but nobody else? If the good police weren't on his ass almost instantly, the corrupt local politicians and police would certainly be. Hey, we're all corrupt and in the middle of a state investigation, so let's ignore the fact one of our own caused a huge fucking scene and nearly killed a guy while assaulting a kid on their front lawn in the middle of the burbs. That's a great way to make sure they don't get increased scrutiny. Because while they're skimming millions in the middle of an investigation of a city official being tortured and murdered, the best loose end to leave would be a drunk, dirty cop threatening a kid and beating a father because they picked on his kid!

Trying to defend that scene and the lack of followup in the show by any real life logic is asinine. The fact they didn't even try in the show is absurd.

For those of you saying there is nothing better on TV right now you are wrong.

Suits
Ray Donovan
Mr. Robot

You also have some oddballs like

The Whispers
Wayward Pines
Tyrant

I am not a huge fan but you also have

Hell on Wheels
Hannibal
Aquarius

So yeah there is plenty of TV to watch out there in a week.

That visit to the parents is an exposition scene to show the kind of man Velcoro is. It works very well because it manages to say a lot of things about the man in a short and enjoyable scene. If anything, the lack of repercussion for it, also helps paint a context of distrust with local authorities and police corruption. Maybe it will resurface if the state investigators find about it when looking for things to put pressure on Velcoro, but it absolutely does not have to, the scene served its purpose.

And as far as the realism argument goes: who wants to go to the cops to complain about a cop for a few bruises?

Suits is a soap opera disguised as a law show but its plot line is more coherent and characters better written than this season of True Detective for sure.

I didn't give a list of perfect shows. I gave a list of currently airing acceptable shows you could be watching and actually enjoying.

I'm watching Aquarius and True Detective is still better. I'm basically only watching Aquarius because it has lots of cute hippy chicks.

Pospicle is literally ruining this thread. Why do some people feel the need to reply to every post. Shitting up the thread doesnt even describe whats happening.

This next episode should be interesting at least, given how the last one ended.

How many times are you going mention things like this? Just ignore me and move on already. It's awkward, passive-aggressive, and distracting to any actual discussion of the show for you to respond every other day to mention howhardyou're ignoring me by constantly referring to it. Like a child telling you they're not talking to you like 10 times an hour hoping you're paying attention to them pretending they aren't paying attention to you.

Description for Sunday's episode:

Ani and Paul chase a lead up the coast; Ray and Frank mull taking new directions in life
I wonder if the 'lead' they're chasing is that strange 'coincidence' Ani came across with the scrapbook of all the people related to a murder investigation.

Mulling? Sounds exciting, because god knows Ray and Frank haven't mulled enough already!

if they would just advance the case it would be enough to keep me watching. no, gathering miniscule clues doesnt count. i want a big fat break in the case.

Anyone trying to defend the scene in the burbs is a fucking retard. Yes, cops get away with corrupt shit and police brutality all the time. No, they don't get to almost kill someone with brass knuckles in front of their kid on the front lawn. The police would have definitely been called for something like that (I'm sure his wife would have called 911 immediately after seeing her husband) and the police would've found out who did it in less than ten minutes; at least police on an above average show would have. When you have an awful show like season 2 of True Detective, I guess anything is possible.

That would be a good response if the assault took place in the corrupt department's jurisdiction. Given the residential area it took place in it's safe to say it did not occur in Vinci.

I think the show wants the viewer to think the guy is too scared to go to the cops, which is reasonable. But, if that's the case he'd have to keep his mouth shut and thus it doesn't make sense how Ray's ex found out about it shortly thereafter. Maybe the kid himself talked about it but it seems odd to go around telling people your dad got his ass kicked. It's not really a big deal to me, but it is a minor thing that wasn't fully thought out.

The na?ve was about the likely hood of him even getting in trouble. Growing up I met cops that did way worse shit than that and never even got a slap on the wrist.
