But it was Casper's place, right? It's not really reasonable for the killer to expect it would never be discovered and he would always be able to go back. Given that, if the killer is the one who took the video it doesn't make much sense not to take it the first time. Unless he just didn't see or know about the video during the kill or was rushed to leave. That's probably what it will end up being (if both birdmen are the same guy), just because it's the most boring and lazy possibility.

Lots to speculate on so I hope it becomes more clear by the end or I'll have blue balls of the heart.

Thats what i was saying, doesnt make sense unless he found out about the blackmail hard drive later. Still interesting the girl who gave up caspers house is close friends with tony?

Atleast the finale is an hour and a half long

it would make sense for the killer not to use their own place, so i dont really have a problem with that, whats weird is that the killer spent so much time setting up caspere's body at that rest station. it was definitely a message, but what kind? was it a fuck you to frank? a warning for caspere's other co-conspirators? i dont think the hard drive had much importance to the killer until somebody came sniffing around the apartment. then the place needed to be swept of evidence.

Maybe the killer is a cop who killed Caspere specifically so all this shit would come out? He knows the DA and everyone else is corrupt (they're at the parties) so he knows he can't go to them, they would just have him killed.

I guess I'm just stating the obvious here.

Was it ever established that the house that Ray was shot in was where Casper died? If it is, then it seems weird that the killer would come back to take the video -- why wouldn't he take it the first time? If it's not, then that's a pretty big unexplained patch of blood that was never mentioned again, no? If the killer and the person who took the video are two different people, it then seems odd that they would both have the same mask. If they're sharing the same mask, again, why didn't the first person take the video? I'm not really sure how to reconcile these things currently. Thoughts?
It's possible that the killer left the video there as evidence, but then took it because he knew Velcorro was dirty and didn't want him to have it.

Yeah i dont remember him holding his ribs leaning in pain in every scene he was moving in or the chase scene being extremely sluggish and laying on the ground in pain

The ribs were an issue definitely the next episode when he and McAdams chase the killer

Then it was forgotten. The Adrenaline in the shootout would surely be a factor but he would have been in major pain.

His kills are extremely personal so obviously he isnt just killing people he has no beef with?

My question is why drive all the way out there to drop off his body
He got the body out of the Venci area of control, and to get it into State cops hands.

What if its local PD that finds the body, does state still get involved? Im not sure how all california law works

Depends if you are in a corrupt district.

It comes down to where the land is that it was found, coupled with any extenuating circumstances.

Show was Decent in showing the fact that its all grey area.

Body was found by a State Trooper, on state/county land, after it was a city POI.

Showed how they all fought in for their own reasons (prove corruption) but the procedural showed how State claimed it since their trooper found it, County came in saying it was a murder in their county so they should own it ( Country sheriff would usually get a murder case not local PD), and Local PD gets in saying is their missing person.

NORMALLY, a Body found belongs to county sheriff (In NY and CA at least) local cops handle their calls, and staties are highway patrol.

Thats pretty much what I thought and why I have an issue leaving the body there with the high chance of CHP not finding it. I figured that was the reason but there is to big of a chance of local/county getting the body. Also why drive that many hours with the corpse? could have put it anywhere on the freeway for CHP and not drive all day

Unfortunately, I think the answer to that is because it was weird and spooky to the audience, not because it made sense in the fictional world.

Because the last episode is going to be a Weekend at Bernies esque episode where the killer rolls around with Ben Caspers dead body acting like he is still alive. They go hang out with hookers, embezzle some money out of bank accounts and just generally have a kick ass day. It will be the buddy film of the summer.

Well at minimum it would have gone to the county and out of Venci. The state lucked into that and gave them an in to force into the murder case with their corruption stuff. So that was luck that actually made this a bigger win for someone trying to expose the story, but the state ultimately gets squashed by geldof. So the killer probably wouldn't have wanted the chp to be involved.

Also you could say it's more likely a highway patrolmen is the first responder to a rest stop on a remote highway than any other cop. Just happens this one was out for an emo I hate being gay night ride and not on duty.
