Last episode finally had some solid VV dialogue/performance. I can get into VV being srs bsns if pizza can hold back on making him talk like an english professor.

Farrell has had the most best parts, but he's had a lot of bad parts too, and I don't personally find him very interesting as an actor. He can't consistently deliver a line with any level of charm, humor, quirk, or nuance. His range goes from brooding seriousness tinged with anger, to brooding seriousness lined with anger and a louder voice. In that pocket he's pretty good at what he does, but it's one dimensional and flat. It would maybe be more interesting if all the other leads weren't trying the exact same approach when it's even more out of their comfort zones, but still, that doesn't make him great, he just isn't as terrible as the others who are even more limited or have even worse parts.
you're like a god damn singularity of misery. seriously how do you spend so much time being a miserable cunt tearing shit apart. go and do something positive with your life. fucking christ.

Thinking Colin Farell isn't a great actor, especially with this shoddy script, doesn't exactly take much misery to believe.

How pathetic and miserable does a person have to be that the only thing they contribute to a discussion is calling someone else miserable and a cunt for, again, thinking Colin Farrell in this role and with this script isn't great?

It's actually not hard, though, to answer your question despite your inability to use a question mark. You should try it some time. First, have a shred of intelligence. Then, pay attention to things you're experiencing in life. And finally, form an opinion based on the two. The exciting thing is that opinion can be anything, and sometimes it may not be blindly positive, but you came up with the opinion yourself so your life isn't shattered by other people having a negative opinion on things you're too fucking idiotic or sensitive to even try to comprehend.

Or, instead of just slitting your wrists and bleeding all over this thread all the time and trying to blame me for being depressing, how about you just form your own fucking opinions that are deeper than thinking calling someone else miserable makes you some paragon of positive energy or undeniable wisdom.

Do you think tonight's episode will be as good as episode 5? I sure hope so! I look forward to your critique!

Yea ep 5 was pretty good. Next ep is probably gonna be good as well.

What a lot people dont put into perspective is the format. When you only have one season (8 episodes at that) its difficult to develop character arcs and story elements. The time constraints cause the showrunners to make tough decisions and sometimes the pacing and overall quality suffer.
Not that you ever answered my question:

You may be on to something. Care to explain in more depth?

Show us on the doll where True Detective touched you. Its the only explanation for your being so invested in hating this show.

I thought you were ignoring me?

How miserable do you have to be to claim over and over you're ignoring someone, but not, so you can continue to read things that affect you so negatively so you can then make unfunny jokes about them hating the show in a discussion that all you manage to contribute to is by claiming you're ignoring them when you aren't. Really, how miserable is that, grumblethorn?

I agree he's the best actor in a show that did no favors for the actors. I still don't think he's been grat, though, for reasons stated. Am still enjoying the show and his performance just fine, but being serviceable on a bad show doesn't mean he's suddenly great. He's not. He just really isn't a great actor, is sometimes good, and is mostly just serviceable in this. Too many people over-compensating to the criticism by trying to claim he's been completely amazing in this, when really he hasn't, just done better than the others with less forgiving roles.

All the actors have had good moments, which makes me not really blame them so much as what they've been given to work with. Even scenes like the early Vaugh 'hey buddy what happened' scene and the latest in the kitchen over coffee make me think he wasn't miscast, so much as just doesn't have a good script or direction to help him along, because those two scenes were really good, whereas there's really only so much you can do with a drawn out monologue staring at a water stain while laying perfectly still.

farrell's big problem is that he isnt very particular about picking roles, so ends up doing a lot of shit movies and it makes him look like a shitty actor, even though he is a fine actor.

If the whole season was like that episode people wouldn't be complaining.

I guess I understand why they said we have to wait for the ending, but what the fuck was with the 2-3 episodes of useless meandering?

That was the first good episode of the season. Did anyone else expect VV to say "Top of the world ma!" when we was watching his old clubs burn. I like how he is handling his business.
