That's what really bugged me. They just piled on coincidence after coincidence, some of which didn't even matter like Bezzerides' hippy dad knowing all those guys, or the assistant being Caspere's lost daughter. It's like they played six degrees of Kevin Bacon with the character profiles and limited every writer to three hops.
its also irritating that every inconsequential character during the season turned out to be the most important players. our 4 "heroes" amounted to jack and shit.
I swear to god it's like you guys didn't even watch the first season.

Or the second for that matter since Caspere's lost daughter explained how she schemed to become Caspere's assistant.

Last few eps weren't terrible, I just don't think the writing did justice to the cast or the potential from season one. I put it pretty much 100% on the writing too, I think the direction was fine but fuck me the narrative and dialogue were just so bad at times. Still better than most shit on TV though.

I hold out hope for season 3.

when unable to refute, insult. you're cute merrith
I refuted by explaining the absolute basics of what went on, which you had trouble grasping. You wanted the episode to be longer and show more cars guarding useless other places looking for Ray. Shit was already an extra half hour to watch, wtf man. Then you wanted them to arrest him, when after realizing he wasn't going to lead them to Mcadams or the documents at all, they can just kill him and he's already discredited and with Paul's murder pinned on him. Talk about the shit that actually was dumb in the episode man.

He made sure he got shot good and dead so they couldn't take him alive and make him talk.

Once he was pinned down and flanked he was done.

I hate depressing endings, but I did like The Wire scene at the Mayor's inauguration.

what a bunch of hooey, i didnt want that shitshow to be longer, i wanted it to make fucking sense. when you search for someone who may be in multiple locations driving any kind of vehicle or maybe even driven by someone else you all dont pile into one car and hang out at one spot hoping thats the right one. also when you spot your target you grab him. what would the goon squad have done if ray saw the big red button under his car and just ran off?

This is what I mean though, it was obvious they had eyes on him. You don't need to show it and extend the episode with more extraneous crap. The entire last few episodes was about how the net was closing and they were fucked regardless. Woodrugh dying how he did was a part of this, for a second you think he's getting away but then he's dead. Again, there's nothing to say they didn't have more guys on standby too. How many do you need to kill one burned out ex cop (how they viewed Velcoro)? The black chief even said plainly they didn't expect him to be that competent, although honestly he was getting tons of help from Anni/Woodrugh/VV. Wasn't like he didn't drop anyone in the last firefight either, he just knew he was fucked.

I just don't get why you don't think it makes sense for Burris to have a team with him checking the most obvious place for Velcoro to visit at the most obvious time. The thing that killed me the most about Velcoro in the episode is how they expected us all to buy the chief and Velcoro having a pleasant conversation about the entire case/murders/robbery/orphans with a dude in a hoodie literally sitting behind them who would hear everything they talked about barely a foot away. Even if it's a random person, no fucking way they talk about it that exposed for someone else to hear.

you're blowing this way out of proportion, the comment that you took offense at was that i said that burris was the devil or rather has the luck of the devil in that he can spot the guy he is looking for right off the bat. and thats stupid. how many invisible guys you imagine are on lookout at exits for gaycop or how many crack squadrons are lurking the city with big red button beepers in search of velcoro is immaterial. its that burris is the one who gets his mark. and because of it he and his gimpy arm win at the end. a guy who was barely on screen all season along with poncho and cisco

Let me just unlurk for a second and say what a bullshit season that was. And it was really predictable too. Unknown writer gets years to polish his dream script, for some reason gets a great director and two great actors and this makes a fucking awesome season. Then he gets 6 months to write a sequel to that with a bunch of dudes to direct it (fast and furious director lol) and it comes out as a pile of shit.

I think the actors did a great job though with what they had. I thought I'd hate Velcoro from the previews but he was a great character in the end, and when the wife got the dna results it fucking broke my heart. If you took out the scenes between Vaughn and his wife, I don't think he would have been shit on so much. It was all the existential bullshit between them that made me cringe. McAdams did a good job, but that character just wasn't entertaining. I don't know, maybe women related to that character or something. Woodrugh wasn't very entertaining either (but his girlfriend was amazingly hot).

Mild spoilers about game of thrones here:
People have said about the show changes that the writers cheat for the bad guys instead of stuff happening naturally like it does in the books. I really feel that's what happened in the finale here and also with Woodrugh in the episode before last.
I really won't rewatch this and won't recommend it to other people like I did with season 1. If you want to have your show or movie have a bad ending, then it better be fucking good. Let's see what happened to our characters: Woodrugh fucked over and dead. VV fucked over and dead. Velcoro fucked over and dead. McAdams fucked, pregnantsed, living in fear in Venezuela with a gangster's wife that spouts excruciating lines. What the fuck were those eight episodes even for.

I'll just rewatch season one again. If we get a season three I hope pizzolato has two or three years to get his stuff right.

Yeah I just watched the last few episodes of this season today and it certainly isn't as good as the first season. A lot of it just seemed forced.

Wow. Holy fuck was that bad. I'd rather watch the Star Wars prequels on an endless loop for all of eternity than watch that pile of shit again.

It was the same as season one. It is one of the pillars the series is built on.
Uh, no it wasn't. S1 didn't show us the next generation of serial killer, investigators, and closet sex fiend religious leaders putting down roots at the close.

This season was terrible compared to the first in my opinion. Maybe the bar was set way to high but it just wasn't good. I prefer watching Ballers over this crap.

So basically your complaint is you think it's completely unrealistic for Burris to catch Woodrugh at the point he exited the subway/tunnels, and be the guy in the car that finds Velcoro at his kid's school?

yeah the one car with burris inside and all his goon squad knew that he would show up at that time with his own car. instead of having the guys at different locations they put everyone in one car and didnt even bother to actually arrest ray, but just put a big red button transponder underneath it. they couldnt figure out if they wanted to kill ray or find the l33t infoz. that was the point of even tracking him, right?
They wanted to follow him to get Ani and the documents.......

The documents that seem soooo stupid but anyone would give Ray a pass to get

The story establishes Burris and co are familiar with the tunnels while Woodrugh is not. Burris anticipating where Woodrugh exits does not require that high a suspension of disbelief.

Burris wants Velcoro, Ani, the hard drive and the documents. Since there is an APB on them and he wants to catch them before another cop does to ensure damage control, he uses his knowledge of the guy to go sit on the place where Velcoro is the most likely to surface: by the kid. That also requires no suspension of disbelief higher than usual.

Now the gunning down of the two people fighting or the way Velcoro deals with the transponder situation... but that's not what you chose to go after.

Velcoro going back for one last glimpse of his kid was always gonna cost him. De Niro turned back for love in Heat and ended up exactly the same way
