burris is also the devil, he knew exactly where and when gaycop was going to be so he could ambush him and he knew exactly where and when velcoro was going to go so he could install the iron grip transponder with the giant red light bulb. too bad ray didnt go into a parking garage and lose them completely
Shows over now. Shit up some other thread.

Ugh the reala question isn't how Burres knew where Velcoro was to tag hjs car, but despite being wanted for the murder of a DA, being involved in a shootout and stealing millions of dollars, why did Velcoro use his own car to drive to see daywalker and to his getaway point?

Almost as if he knew ahead of time that the guys he was working with were going to lure Paul to a location and where a likely exit point was, or that a possible place to pick up Velcoro's trail would be to watch his kid.

Fucking magic.

all this was to have taken place in a day. they put all their eggs in one basket and assumed he would show up at the school and be in his own car. remember, as you said, they were watching the kid. ray could have walked up from anywhere in any car. before ray even went near the daywalker they had his car marked up with the big red button transponder.

Supernatural shit would have actually made this season more believable.

Pizzaloto had the framework and bones of a pretty decent story. I am sure if he had another 6 months to refine, trim the fat, and get some half-way decent dialogue writers to punch up his script, it would not have been the disaster that it turned out to be. The last two episodes were decently exciting, but they could not put the train back on the track before crashed and burned.

Everyone knew what was up. Basically every named character and most of the unnamed characters, except for our 4 plucky heroes, was in on everything.
That's what really bugged me. They just piled on coincidence after coincidence, some of which didn't even matter like Bezzerides' hippy dad knowing all those guys, or the assistant being Caspere's lost daughter. It's like they played six degrees of Kevin Bacon with the character profiles and limited every writer to three hops.

its also irritating that every inconsequential character during the season turned out to be the most important players. our 4 "heroes" amounted to jack and shit.

All the eggs in one basket? What evidence of this is there? We knew for a fact they had only one car watching for Ray and it was parked near where the kids have lunch/recess?

State wide manhunt for the guy and it's a surprise they had people watching his kid at school during school hours. Fuck Astro this season had enough dumb moments we don't need to Astro up any more.

yeah the one car with burris inside and all his goon squad knew that he would show up at that time with his own car. instead of having the guys at different locations they put everyone in one car and didnt even bother to actually arrest ray, but just put a big red button transponder underneath it. they couldnt figure out if they wanted to kill ray or find the l33t infoz. that was the point of even tracking him, right?

I think it would be a fun experiment to be in your brain while you watch stuff. Actually fun might not be the right word.

Really disappointing season. It's easy to blame pizzaman, but damn, some of the direction this season was just terrible. If anything this season showed how much Cary Fukunaga carried Nic's script last season cuz there were a few cringey lines then too.

In the end that was pretty classic noir. The ugly world, remains ugly, the ones who try to redeem or escape their past fail (but possibly open a door for other less tainted characters) and the story is more about the trajectory of the flawed (anti-)heroes in a flawed society than the crime/investigation that kick-starts it. As mentioned earlier in the thread, we also got a good dose of classic incomprehensible LA corruption story, except, in now classic True Detective fashion, letting some time pass to have another go at the investigation allows to make everything comprehensible (but not right).

My main beef is that it should have went full Twin Peaks, and make everything eerie with everyone spouting strange, distanciating, unnatural lines or, like the first season, put a very strange guy in the middle of regular people, but, here, it's somewhere in the middle so it's just grating and hit and miss.

Also, I would watch a special about the two women, the kid and Nails in South America.
