people at twitch are laughing their asses off right now. They won. They made Microsoft cave in. Not some tiny startup. Twitch could not be beaten 7 years ago when it was mainly for sc2 streams and was much much more vulnerable to competition. I remember gomtv, Own3d, mlg had their own player. They all vanished within a year. Mixer was no different, even with massive MS backing. It too only lasted like a year. And no one gives a shit about facebook or facebook gaming.

looks like Shroud's a corporate homo

This is a ridiculous statement because AMAZON (not Twitch) is going to lose in the end to some startup because the startup will be better/faster/more profitable for streamers and Amazon, the giant fucking corporation, will not be able to innovate or cut costs enough to compete. It is the cycle of most businesses that they start small which allows them to be agile and react to customer demands efficiently. They carve out a space and gain market share until they either become or are merged into a giant corporation. Then, the bureaucratic nature of corporations piles layers of red tape into every decision and the product simply exists to make the money it was making before. R&D, agility, and customer service all go down the drain in the name of reliable expectations and this continues until a new startup begins the cycle again.

If Mixer truly wanted to challenge Twitch they would have stayed independent and enticed streamers to switch platforms based on their feature set, rules for streamers, and fixing whatever the issues are with tips/donations/subs being paid promptly. Instead they sold to Microsoft who has not innovated on anything since the inception of the company.

Fuck that noise. My means suck compared to this. First thing I'd buy a proper house for my family, and then I'd burn through half a million every year. I doubt I even could spend that much money if I tried.

You need to try harder then. I could find ways to blast through 30 million in a lifetime with ease. Now if I had the 100+ Billion Jeffy Bezos has then I could maybe make that argument of not in a lifetime, but even then I could find ways to do amazingly stupid things with that kind of cash.

Well, yeah I am sure we all could if we wanted to Brewsters Millions the deal. But with easy financial planning a normie wouldn't have to touch the 30 million and live just off the interest. Or, buy a nice house somewhere fully paid for and a couple normal cars and just live normally for the rest of your life. (But I am old, and wiser)

microsoft isn't interested in all the drama and shit mixer brings in and end of the day the calculation is simple: if we dump mixer, facebook (and others down the road, especially youtube if Stadia is killed like it almost certainly will be) and other content platforms will be more ok with integrating with xCloud than if we kept mixer, which is a competitor to any content platform.

Microsoft just wants everyone subbing to GamePass Ultimate/xCloud, and Mixer doesn't help them to achieve that. I could see now Microsoft starting to make deals with Netflix, CBS All Access, HBO Max, etc to also integrate some sort of gaming into content viewing streams and without Mixer its a lot easier for those other companies to agree.

Actually with AT&T recently putting up Warner Interactive (Mordor, Batman games, etc) it would be interesting if Microsoft bought them to add as game studios. Probably a bit too pricey though.

Maybe we’ll get a streaming service ran by non-incels getting rape charges over too long of hugs, or lead by tranny faggot deerkin. Hell you tell people that shit doesn’t fly with the new company I bet everyone switches on that alone.

I'd have a nice house with the absolute sickest of gaming setups, and that's all I need.

Yep. Only thing I would change right now is a mountain view in the rockies or ocean view in the Carribean. Someone give me 30 million and I will stream games drunk for the rest of my life from one of these two locations.

Tech space changes much slower now than 10-20 years ago.
I do not think a small company will topple Facebook, Twitch, Amazon, Google, Youtube, etc.

This stuff is "mainstream" now, whereas in the past, it was niche markets.
To break in you need to do something revolutionary / not done before.
Or you need deep pockets... apparently deeper than even Microsoft.
Or one of these giants needs to do a lot of things that piss off a lot of people. But even that seems to not matter much.

For those with no expensive vices and a keen financial sense it's almost impossible to burn through $30 mil in a lifetime. But for others it's piss easy. I remember reading two articles a decade or so ago about two young winners of the British National Lottery. They each won about $20-30 mill and both had blown it all in 10 years. Basically non-stop partying with tons of cocaine and hookers. For me, I'd have a tough time burning through the interest on $30 mill, but if anyone would like to give me that much to test it (for science) then I'd be happy to oblige :D

There's tons of stories about people who won the lottery and blew through it in a matter of years. Many times, the types of people who play the lottery on the regular aren't the most financially wise to begin with. The only time most regular people ever play the lottery is when it gets to some insane pot like 500+ million and you're like "why the fuck not?" and slap down a couple bucks.

No one said it happens overnight; and who said Dlive is the idea that will cause the dam to burst and flood them with creators and viewers?

Deep pockets don't mean shit if your execution is shit. Did Microsoft or Mixer really understand WHY people watched Shroud or Ninja? Did they do any research into what other streamers they streamed with and try and make them a package deal? Did they ever think about the fact that they would need to sign a plurality of all of a certain genre's large and medium streamers to really force people to move to a new platform? What about a company that builds a true 'platform of platforms' that allows you to view Dlive, Twitch, and Youtube under one URL? These companies have all the cash in the world but lack the strategy, foresight, and intestinal fortitude it takes to truly make a dent in the space.

Well, that's for a couple'a reasons.

1. Probably the biggest of them, is copyright law. 20 years ago, if you had told me that copyright law would infect all discussions, I would've laughed in your face. Nobody cared about copyright.

2. Word of mouth. Do you honestly think that google and facebook had ads up all over the place? "Hey, come check us out... We don't do evil." No. You hear about it from a friend who's doing it, all of sudden you're on the website without even knowing why.

3. That's because you have no information warfare experts out there. You might call them "branding" experts. I swear to god, I could never hear the word "branding" in association with a product ever again and be completely happy. But, I would just plop some millennial down in front of twitter and tell him to pump our website whenever you read that twitch had done something wrong. Fuck, lie to these people if you have to. That's what "branding" experts do, anyway.

I'm no expert at marketing, but this generation seems exceedingly stupid. Put your shit out there enough times, call it "branding", and watch the profits roll in.

I'd build a spaceship for cruising around in the solar system. If I were rich I mean. 30 mil probably not enough though.
