Well let's take Jazz Jennings as an example then and run with this, sure. Think of the alternative. Let's run with the notion that she didn't get puberty blockers and went through puberty. Now she's getting chest hair, leg hair, a deep voice, big ol manly muscles, a manly jaw, a larger nose, bigger feet, bigger shoulders... ALL of these things, for someone who's been following how this kid lives her life and fits in with the world socially... all of those things would be HIGHLY dysphoric, HIGHLY mentally uncomfortable for her and she'd most certainly get depressed and probably get suicidal. Clearly, for a person like Jazz who was OBVIOUSLY born like this, that transition fit this person like a glove and they're getting along JUST fine in this world via transition.

I 100% agree that the penile material for her tiny little penis isn't suitable to make a deep neo-vag but you absolutely HAVE to look at the alternative to NOT putting her on the meds as stated above. There is NO perfect panacea for this unless something new and radical that can permanently "cure" gender dysphoria becomes available. As we've discussed though Chaos, this is not a reality at the moment... and may never be a reality. I sure hope it is though... somewhere down the line, but it doesn't seem feasible... just like there's no actual "cure" for being gay.

It's like a modified trolley problem. If I as a parent do nothing, then the child has dysphoria and the fallout associated with that. If I switch the tracks, then theres the associated risks with that. But the whole point of the classic scenario is that there isnt a "right" answer, just a justifiable one. The comparison breaks down though, because in the classic problem if I also told you that 8 in 10 times theres actually no reason to switch tracks, in fact by switching tracks you could be doing damage, it really undercuts the subtlety of the original point. Theres still no perfect answer, but theres certainly a correct one. By taking action, 8 in 10 times you are introducing the risk of harm. Theres got to be a better way and I hope we find it someday.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner here. I treat mental health conditions and prescribe medication daily. As a professional, there is no way to discern which kids would actually benefit from being allowed to chemically transition. Imagine talking to five year olds and each is telling me they meet all the criteria for gender dysphoria (thanks google) and that their parents are lying about their history of dysphoria symptoms or they were too afraid to talk. I guess I'm a bigot for being skeptical. Even if I believe 1 out of 5 would actually benefit, a 12 year old does not know what is best.

Furthermore, pointing to someone who has transitioned and is supposedly doing well after transition is misleading; we have no way to know if the individual is actual better or worse because we have no control group to compare.

My take on puberty blockers:
Humans believe we can play god and nothing could ever go wrong. Puberty blockers are unnatural and unhealthy.
But I believe nature adapts and the humans undergoing these things can find ways to be happy.
But it's up to the individual.
