If they do games with it, buy a combat patrol and play that first. As I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere in Sweden I do all my hobby purchases on the web.
A year ago a small local Warhammer shop started up here and today I finally got time to visit as I needed some new paints.
The energy of these Warhammer and Magic nerds are crazy and they are so happy new people come in and ask stuff. The owner was super nice and explained a shitload of stuff and went into nerd fueled lore explanations. I could not take all of that in but he did invite me to come and try and play with them if I wanted to.
I only have a like 5 painted models (3 Blade Guard Veterans and 2 Adeptas Sororitas).
He mention trying Skirmish and Kill Team with him if I wanted later on as you only needed one box of Units. Any good guides on how all of that work?
As a total newbie in this it's all quite overwhelming, I just like to paint the guys really so have no clue how all this work.
OK so this guy finds an alien structure underground in paleolithic turkey and it grants him immense psychic powers and immortality. As a total newbie in this it's all quite overwhelming, I just like to paint the guys really so have no clue how all this work.
You skipped a bitOK so this guy finds an alien structure underground in paleolithic turkey and it grants him immense psychic powers and immortality.
30k years later humanity has colonised the galaxy, but at the height of technology AI tries to take over and throws humanity into a war for survival against it's own machines.
Then those aliens invent so many disgusting immortality fuelled sexual deviances that they almost all spontaneously die to birth a Chaos God of sex, addiction and rock music. This causes enough space weather to block interplanetary travel.
The immortal guy steps out of the shadows, He is the Emperor of Mankind, and starting with a now barbarian ravaged Earth he starts his crusade across the galaxy to reconqueor and reunite humanity.
He cannot do it alone. He creates 20 genetically engineered sons to be his generals, half of them betray him in a 64 book long novel series and in death he is put on that alien structure he found called The Golden Throne and turned into a psychic lighthouse eternally screaming into the void, powered by the souls of 10,000 psychics per day.
10k years later and humanity is controlled by a fascist theocracy who will destroy entire planets for comitting heresy. These are the good guys.
What happens next is that someone will point out the inaccuracies in my post and we argue about which contradictory sources are correct.
I see your inaccuracies. But now that Im reading it in such a summarized, hastily thought out form... I see how fucking funny it is. ... And for whatever reason, I kept think of Immortan Joe when you was talking about the Emperor. Which in all honesty, sounds fucking bad ass.OK so this guy finds an alien structure underground in paleolithic turkey and it grants him immense psychic powers and immortality.

Oh yeah, millions of years ago the galaxy is ruled by the mayan frog people from Warhammer Fantasy. You skipped a bit
I've been playing Kill Team for the last 2+ years and its a fantastic, and relativity low entry point into tabletop gaming with GW models. Once you get into the flow of things, games shouldnt take more than 1.5 to 2 hours. He mention trying Skirmish and Kill Team with him if I wanted later on as you only needed one box of Units. The game itself just entered its 3rd edition so its a great time to get in while everyone is learning the new/refined rules and teams.
What you are going to need is to choose a kill team & get the models (rules for all kill teams are free with the official KT App from GW & you can print them out. The app is a pdf downloader or you can get it directly from GW), measuring tape (while the game last edition used symbols for movement, the distance was still in inches), approved ops cards, equipment pack , and I would recommend the core rules book as it will have an accompanying markers sheet that is needed for the game.
I have attached an easy cheat sheet. It covers all of the keywords, but you will need visuals from the core rule book to get examples of the full game mechanics work.
Here is also a link of a How to Game for probably one of the better bat rep youtubers for Kill Team. They are by no means the best players in the world in terms of being competitive, but they are entertaining and get a lot of things right for rules interpretations, and admit when they make mistakes during their videos.
I am a locally competitive player for kill team and will gladly answer any questions you have.
If you are in a tournament and the TO has stated out that WSIYG is in effect, then you have to play the models with the loadouts they have been built with. How does the modelling work?
I have 5 Incursors and 5 Infiltrators, so I can make a Phobos Strike Team? But do all the weapon and gear options need to be represented properly? Because I made them for regular 40k and didn't have the Strike Team upgrade spruce.

Yes there is a Co-Op mode now for Kill Team. That is all in the Core Rule Book. Many thanks. Will check it out!
He also mentioned he played "pve" games with a friend. They co-op played against horses kinda lika Space Marine 2. Not sure if thats some custom unofficial thing just for fun though.

With this new edition, there is a new starter box that comes with the Angels of Death (Loyal Astartes) & Death Guard Marines. All models in that box are push fit and of course unpainted, MDF terrain (this box is a testing ground for GW to go to MDF in the future), the needed markers for the game. Overall it is a great value.Cool!
Any particular starting box you would recommend?
I can always buy something now and take time painting then go from there.
