Coming off of the hottest June on record by a myriad of statistics (hottest average high, average low, etc) it's forecast to be 118 in Vegas on Sunday or Monday.

It's never been that hot in Vegas before, and has certainly never been outright forecast to be that hot.

The lows are going to barely dip below 90 for 4-5 days, too.

Meanwhile in Death Valley - Death Valley set to experience potentially hottest week recorded anywhere on Earth

You were alive in 1931?

That was the last time it was 118 degrees recorded in Las Vegas.

Yes it has been that hot.

Also, Athens GA will have a Heat Index of 106 today. You guys live in a desert. Its hot in the desert. Athens GA is not in a desert but it going to feel like we are.

It is hot everywhere.

Maybe I’m remembering it wrong or it was some local/on base measurement 🤷‍♂️

Current path looks like projected to hit Freeport, TX and then taper down and end up going over Nacogdoches in East, TX. Of course subject to change/update.

When one of the hurricanes I can't remember the name of hit shortly after Katrina hit Houston I was without power for about a week due to all the trees the power has to come through to get here. Timber company and national forest. I had a whole house generator so it wasn't that bad, but there was only one local gas station that had a diesel generator that could pump gas for all the people with portable generators. I may fire up the ham radio later and see if the net for that stuff is operational yet. My 43' vertical antenna comes down when the wind picks up but its super easy to just lift it up off the pole in the ground and lay it down next to the shop. Good thing my license doesn't expire till August now that I think about it I need to renew that.

I had gone to Baton Rouge for Katrina to get some of my parents stuff out of the house since they weren't there. I left the morning before and went north in MS and across the MS river at Natchez and cut across to TX and back home. Took about an hour more than normal. But the amount of people that would only travel via the interstate was a lot. Like back roads and highways were a foreign idea. Most of the roads I took had very little traffic which I-10/I-49 was a standstill.

This will sound really foreign nowdays. Keep your phone numbers if you think you are going to be in an emergency area in your wallet or something besides your phone. My friend worked at charity hospital in New Orleans during Katrina. They had one land line. But most people when their phone battery died they had no number to call. That and he couldn't call anyone in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. He called me in TX and I called his wife in Baton Rouge to tell her what was going on. How he knew my number I have no idea I had just changed it.

They drastically lowered the predictions on the hurricane. Most models show a maximum of cat 1 and a few cat 2 at most. Going more eastward and going through east, TX into AR and onto MO.

The hottest temperature ever measured in Las Vegas is 117 and that has occurred on five separate occasions, on July 10, 2021; June 20, 2017; June 30, 2013; July 19, 2005; and July 24, 1942.

Official Las Vegas temperature readings are taken at a weather service gauge at Harry Reid International Airport. Las Vegas’ famous Strip is only 2 miles away and Planz said temperatures on the Strip are usually similar to those taken at the airport. “It’s possible if you were standing over pavement on the Strip, it could be hotter — or if you’re standing over the foundation at the Bellagio, it could feel a little cooler,” he said.

i have posted before you can not trust "records" anymore. my town basically erased all records when they got a new official weather gauge in the late 90's.

I was trying to search through a couple sites in my phone, but it was super clunky. Came across 115 in July 2005 I think it was. pretty sure Nellis has its own weather service or whatever

We've had 2 really nice days. I haven't needed the AC at all. The day before the "feels like" was 120 :emoji_sweat_smile:

Goddamn tropical storm has really screwed up shit here in Texas. I don't know when the hell power will be back up.

How are my Houston folks holding up? We had a giant tree topple this morning blocking everyone on our cul-de-sac in. Didn't realize shit was going to get so rough today, but at least it seems like the neighborhood is out in force helping each other out.

Pretty nice to see honestly, and a bit surprising. I just hope my deep freeze isn't going to require me to cook everything, but guess I can feed everyone if that's the case.
