if your chest freezer is in the basement or in a cool place like your main floor, it should stay cool for a while and won't use much electricity (if you use a portable battery backup)Goddamn tropical storm has really screwed up shit here in Texas. I don't know when the hell power will be back up.
How are my Houston folks holding up? We had a giant tree topple this morning blocking everyone on our cul-de-sac in. Didn't realize shit was going to get so rough today, but at least it seems like the neighborhood is out in force helping each other out.
Pretty nice to see honestly, and a bit surprising. I just hope my deep freeze isn't going to require me to cook everything, but guess I can feed everyone if that's the case.
Aldarions annoying need to virtue signal about how secure, tough whatever is gay and fake as fuck. Of course it's cause you don't want to lose 600 bucks in food.I've lived in the south all my life. Dealt with my share of hot weather, hurricanes, etc. gotten heat exhaustion threw times over the years from working and just spending time outside. I don't mind hot weather, as long as I've got some AC I can go and cool off in. The issue now is just not having power, and it sounds like the utility companies didn't stage in anticipation of repairs, which they normally do, or at least did for the last bad storm.
Power outage during the freeze a few years ago kind of showed their ineptitude, and it's kind of on display now. I think though that the storm ended up being a hell of a lot worse than anybody had anticipated, and it looks like it may be changed trajectory, and so if they were staging it was in the wrong area.
I just don't want to lose everything in my damn fridge and freezer. I make certain to buy steaks and meet when it's on sale because of Bidenomics, and if I end up having to cook a bunch of better throw it out I'm going to be pretty pissed. That's why I'm just not opening the thing. It's pretty full so I would imagine it still should at least be okay, and at least our house gets a lot of shade from me trees around it. It's not brutal inside right now, but the humidity and just the air outside not moving blows. I think the heat index is supposed to be 105 or 106 today, and couple that with humidity it's not tolerant like 90° dry heat.
Well, I think he's Canadian, so that might explain some things.Aldarions annoying need to virtue signal about how secure, tough whatever is gay and fake as fuck. Of course it's cause you don't want to lose 600 bucks in food.

Well, gents. We just got power back after bearing the brunt of Beryl. The eye went directly over my house and our neighborhood. Power lost for around 36 hours. I need recommendations on a whole home genny. I am thinking commercial, not residential.
This is a nice solution with the hybrid f-150 if you need a truck too.

Of the little I have read about them, people seems to like propane over diesel/gas. Something about higher upfront, but less maintenance/upkeep (maybe).Well, gents. now it's time to dip into your rainy day generator fundThink the wife has heat exhaustion. Was throwing up all night and having trouble keeping liquids down. Was hotter inside than out last night when we went to bed.
Luckily power came back on around 1am, shut off again after 15mins, but came back at maybe 3 or 4. Thank God though. Weren't expecting it until possibly later this evening, so pretty thankful.
Think the freezer is fine, just have to pitch some stuff in the fridge, or feed it to the dogs, but not near as bad as I thought things might be.
Yeah, definitely going to shop for one. Inventory is gone though, so probably have to wait a bit, but gives me time to research.now it's time to dip into your rainy day generator fund
We just got power back after Beryl. All I can say is FUCK CENTERPOINT Energy. As soon as we got a crew to show up, they had us back on in a few hours. Sad it took a fucking week to get a crew here. And I don't live in the sticks, I live in the city. I am the last person on my corp team to get power back, from the Woodlands to Katy to Fulshear to Pearland. During Ike we lost power for 4.5 days; Ike was a Cat 5 covered the entire Gulf that only dropped to a Cat 3 as it neared land (there is a shelf off upper Texas coast that makes the Gulf shallow and can limit hurricane strength at times) that dropped it to a Cat 3. You telling me that this mid fast moving Cat 1 did more damage than that Monster storm?Well, gents. We just got power back after bearing the brunt of Beryl.
