I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict this storm isn't going to be "that" bad. I think Tampa/St Pete avoid a major storm surge tsunami. The smaller towns south between Sarasota to Naples are gonna get wrecked, but no moreso than any other Cat 3.

Just went out back with the dogs to let them stretch their legs. We came back in and we're wet but not close to soaked. Wind wasn't bad and most of it was being deflected by the shadowbox fence we have.
Edit: Naples on the other hand is almost 4' above high tide already. Surge gonna be ass fucking them.

My YouTube TV for some reason automatically went to the Weather channel.
There's a reporter standing at a marina in Sarasota and it looks a little windy, and a tiny bit rainy, but not really...anything? If he was concerned about storm surge, he'd probably be underwater shortly. They also had one of those pictures in a picture of some road in Sarasota and they've all got power.
Granted, the eye isn't quite onshore yet, but it's pretty fucking close.

This is starting to feel like a normal, expected hurricane and less like Helene that seemed kind of odd in how much damage it did (to the coast, ignoring the inland shit).
Gonna be some power outages, buildings in the first 5 or so blocks next to the coast will be wrecked, but everyone else is just looking at some rain and power outages.

Tampa just got an 89 gust. And it seems with the wind direction Tampa is gonna get a negative surge. The winds are pushing out from Tampa.
Canes are all about timing. It could have been a cat 5 doom storm but it sped up and we get a really weak Cat 3 instead of.
