I tried it once. I ate a steak 4 hours later. Never looked back.
haha ever have salad works veggie chili? that shit is amazing! I'm not looking to get into some crazy long debate. I just decided to pick up a book and incorporate it into my life. As for why to eat one pound of raw/cooked? basically the more you eat the more weight you lose but also take in a lot of disease fighting nutrients in the process.

Also, I think some of your calculations are way off. No way a standard tomato compares in protein to ham per calorie. That's just ridiculous.

If I am going to be honest, and I admit I haven't read this book, it sounds like much of the same stuff we've heard for the past 30 years that is shown more and more every day to not be true.
all good man. Like I said, check out the book if you're already eating that life style. He references a bunch of studies, I just don't really care enough to dig them up.. He also mentioned eating more than 100g protein a day is unhealthy.. Totally mind fucking to even read that

not my calculations. I took that from the book. Like I said.. I haven't got around to verifying any of it. I was just curious if anyone else has read the book. Plus it got a little stale around here=P

A Tomato (according to Google) has 0.05 grams per Calorie (0.9g/18C).

Ham has 0.14 (21g/145C)

About 2.9x as much protein per Calorie.

And totally false. It really sounds like pseudo-scientific nonsense to me. If the things you have mentioned (like the protein content of ham and a tomato) are indicative of the entire book then it isn't worth your time to read.

Well, I think you generally should be a bit more cautious with claims like that around people with the free time and motivation to fact check it. It makes it hard to take the rest of what you're saying seriously when you(Convo) read tomato = ham = brocolli and don't go "wtf?".

EDIT for directly above response: shouldn't verification be done before lifestyle changes are put into place? I mean, this has been all of 5 minutes for me to prove just a couple claims wrong.

lol I'm not claiming anything.. I referenced the book. I don't fucking know what the protein content is in those 3. I specifically brought the book to this thread so people could give me feedback.. you're just being a bit over the top. Like i crapped on your meat eating world or something.

P.S. We are the only primates that eat meat?

Verification of what? Eating more fruits and veggies and upping beans? Lol am I the first person to stop eating meat or something? There are professional athletes who eat vegan. btw.. The book does allow for 10% animal foods.

What we are saying is that if there are a few simple and easily testable claims in the book that are so obviously wrong, then it calls all of the other claims in the book greatly into question. It doesn't automatically mean the entire book is completely wrong, but you should have a hard time trusting it at all knowing what you know now.

This is actually a good place to come with this stuff since a lot of us have pretty good bullshit meters when it comes to diet and nutrition... a popular field full of enough bullshit to grow a substantial supply of healthy vegetables.

pretty much why I came here.. I decided that the risk of starting to follow a plan like his was pretty low. I mean what could possibly happen by me eating a ton of veggies, fruits and some nuts and whole grains? I planned to do some research once I was finished the book. To be honest.. it sounds pretty logical to increase those things and limit meat,dairy and processed foods. At least that was my thinking of why I should start.

And you're getting valuable feedback. You obviously have very little common sense as to the protein content of everyday food nor must you even glance at a nutrition label once in a while. The plan is harmless enough assuming you get what you need, and limiting processed foods is always a good idea, as is eating lots of vegetables. However dairy is quite good for you, so is unprocessed meat. Just don't read a dumb book then through the baby out with the bathwater.

I'm not mad at all.. I never jumped in this thread and said I was some kind of expert.. I basically said, hey guys.. I'm reading this book, haven't verified anything but here is what it says... You just took that and made it into something more.. I'm not preaching dude.. stop being a dick as I had every intention of digging deeper after I read the book.

@Denault.. I'm not throwing anything out man.. Just following it while I'm reading it. The book has you eat like this for 6 weeks.. I purposely only read the book on the elpicatal so it's taking a bit more time to finish it. That and I have fucking vertigo so its making it annoying to read at times. I'm not tossing anything out yet. ha Maybe just doing without meat for a week or 2. To be honest I mostly eat chicken and eggs and have been pretty bored of them anyway

Missed the monkey thing.

Near as I can tell all primates are omnivorous. Some eat less as a % of their diet, like Gorillas, and others eat much more. Capuchin Monkeys apparently eat quite a lot of meat, similar %s to pre-agricultural humans.

Chimps and other primates have been observed hunting, and quite violently killing, other animals, including monkeys, for food.

lol the book said that.. That's one I didn't believe but I threw it out there since Death was raging on me not knowing how much protein per calorie is in ham, tomato and oatmeal.. I admit.. I was trolling a bit with that one.

I've never even considered diving into a vegetarian lifestyle so although obvious to those who read a lot of nutritional information, I really don't know the protein/carb/fat make up of a lot of vegetables.

anyone else read/try the Eat to Live plan?

It essentially recommends a vegan diet without processed foods and limited grains, where the goal of the diet is to maximize the nutrient to calorie ratio of foods (obviously veggies, especially greens are the most nutrient dense and meats/cheeses have virtually none).

General guidelines are to make it a goal to:
eat one pound of raw veggies per day (mostly leafy greens),
one pound of cooked veggies per day,
at least four fruits per day,
at least one cup of legumes (beans/pulses) per day,
up to one cup of soy milk/almond milk
portion of whole grains (oatmeal, wheat pita)
fats from things like nuts

Pretty interesting stuff. Been following it for a few days now and I'm not minding it. I haven't finished the entire book yet but I know there is some room for deviation. 10% rule.. as long as you follow the plan 90%. It really does make a lot of sense to load up on veggies and fruits.

Right now, I'm really just relying on his studies/references(which are a lot) when I'm done the book I'm going to check into it more. He pretty much demonizes meat heh
