Yup, first of the year is the absolute WORST time of the year at the gym... ususally lasts about 6 weeks and things go back to business as usual. Makes me so glad I built a home gym....
That's the reason I decided to get a home gym too, I realized I'd be starting my training around the holidays and just figured I'd skip all that jazz and just have it at the house.

I don't do resolutions, if I decide on doing something, I just start on it like Elurin said.

Well, I have no choice other than going to the gym so I have someone to watch my awful children while I work out. Plus I mentioned it before, but I really think there is a lot to be said for the ritual of going somewhere to work out, the idea that it is something you have to schedule and prepare for I think drives me to commit to it more than I otherwise would.

I thought it was all bullshit with the food tracking until I did it. MyFitnessPal is really good as long as you aren't trying to break it like certain people in this thread.
I ain't trying to break it! That stupid site is telling me to eat like this! I must assimilate!

We all agree on this one fact. Don't trust MyFitnessPal to give you a good estimate on how many calories you should intake per day to lose a set amount of weight.

Why don't you just determine TDEE for a target weight, ignore exercise calculations and eat that number and work out?

E.g., 5'10" 30 year old wanting to be 155lbs, your maintenance would be ~2000kcals/day. Just eat that and you'll end up at 155 naturally. Add weight lifting but don't change calories and you'll avoid being skinny fat when you do hit 155.

Signing up to a legit gym this week. Haven't lifted in over a month, wondering how horrible my squat and deadlift are going to be.

Sort of anecdotal but I originally joined a gym and weight lifted consistently for 5 years after starting on Jan 1st due to a resolution. Like 1% of those dudes are going to stick around and be cool. The rest are gone. You can always tell because they walk in with brand new shorts, shirts, shoes, workout socks, head band, wrist bands, workout gloves, new ipod, giant headphones (neon dre beats), duffel bag, tablet to track progress, belt for dead lifts, jump rope, running shoes, flat lifting shoes, and other accessories.

I buy all my gym clothes at the local thrift store. I usually rock $1.60 shoes, $2.00 shorts, and a $1.00 t-shirt. As long as the clothes are just for basic exercising/lifting, I've never seen the point in spending much money on them, nor how stylish/good they look.

Ok so last week I stayed at 1320 calories for 4 of the 7 days. Monday and Friday I had ~1600 and Christmas Eve I had about 2600. Weighed in down 2.6 lbs at 191.8.

This week is probably going to be something similar as I had about 3000 calories yesterday on New Year's Eve. I'm actually a little surprised I was only down 2.6 lbs last week but whatever.

My stomach feels like it has shrank a ton. I almost threw up I was so full on that 3000 calories yesterday and a good 600 of it was alcohol (maybe that's why I almost threw up, haven't been drinking at all lately). This whole calories counting thing has me way more focused than I have been in a long time even though it's a stupidly low amount.

Calorie counting is brutal if you love food, keep up the good work though!

I noticed Pizza Hut is doing something like 50% off all pizzas until Jan 10th... I wonder if that has something to do with it
