Hahaha, supplements are placebos and garbage. Keep lying to yourselves about all those sick gains that sugar drink you suck down is giving you or all that extra protein you couldn't possibly get from food affords you.
Sugar drink? There's no sugar in my pwo.

I don't think anyone here recommends protein powder OVER food. It's a SUPPLEMENT i.e. SUPPLEMENT YOUR FUCKING DIET.

Are you guys kidding me right now?

Supplements are such a broad category that include everything from multivitamins to your tiger dick xtreme. Since they're not drugs they don't have to prove their products actually do anything, so you get a lot of worthless BS along with some very legit supplements that really are useful. It's a matter of ignoring the marketing and doing a little research.

I don't think anyone has said you can't get protein from food. The point to a protein shake is for any situation in which you ought to have more protein but can't or don't want to cook up a salmon filet.

I occasionally make a whey shake and take a multivitamin, and tend to agree that the supplement industry is full of bullshit. That being said, for some people, they associate success in the gym with a very strict procedure (one of which is, drink a preworkout). They like the caffeine/niacin rush and it puts them in a good state-of-mind to go lift heavy shit. I see guys like you with your ("rabble all supplements are bullshit all natty 4 lyfe!!!") statements and think its equally as ridiculous as the dood spending $100/week on LeanMass9000 pills.

I use Folgers (ELITE) for my pre-workout but I know strong and healthy doods that like other shit, whatever.

I don't use pre workout formulas, just some caffeine tablets and occasionally some coconut oil and beta alanine.

The few times I did they definitely gave me more focus

The appeal is surely a ready made formula with lots of different ingredients, to save taking them individually

And whey protein is faster digesting than regular food, plus it tastes nice, which on a restricted diet can be a treat

This. I can't cook steak every night to get my protein requirements. Fish and chicken get old, fast. Getting 175 to 200g of protein is a chore without a protein shake or two per day for me. Not to mention most of the high protein food that tastes good and is easy to eat in high quantity has a lot of fat which runs up the calories in a hurry. I'm not against high fat but it makes meals a lot smaller. The only other supplement I take is creatine because its proven to work although it's not as if I notice it. Everything else is pretty useless to me. I'm immune to caffeine and it along with protein and creatine are just about the only three things that are universally agreed upon as being worthwhile. BCAA's for specific situations can be helpful but I don't train fasted and eat plenty of meat anyway. There are other things that are min/max useful but the biggest effect they'll grant is placebo more likely than not. Then again placebo is powerful so if you are the kind of person that can fall for your own bullshit you're ahead of the game.

That's an interesting way to phrase it. I feel like I've frequently been in a position where ICOULDhold forth on a lecture about how expensive and useless the crap is, but the guy I'm speaking with is in excellent shape and strong as hell. Why the fuck would he take me seriously when he squats 400 for reps and loves his pre-workout? The same dynamic applies when an obese person tells me the sugar-free Monster I'm drinking is bad for me.

Red sugar doesn't count.

Its the white and the blue that you have to avoid. Skittles will fuck you up, bro.

I agree with the tastes nice part. Making a shake with cream / protein / raspberries is a pretty great ice cream replacement while low carbing. The other nice thing about the shake is that it is liquid. If you are like me and have trouble with solid food after a tough workout it really hits the spot.

Boom. Those 3 are all you need.

And I personally do train fasted, and BCAAs have made a world of difference as well as pwo.

On Sunday I ate 5 glazed donuts, 2 cinnamon twists, brunch + 6 whiskey drinks, and whataburger large combo. Zero weight gain. Genetics > all.

No, you're likely just addicted. You should try cutting back severely for a while until your tolerance fades (10 days of hell, probably best to do while cutting anyways) and then switch to caffeine use more sparingly, right before a heavy workout, when you could actually most benefit from it.

What Caffeine Actually Does to Your Brain

Caffeine addiction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Had a headache all day today - took my pwo and it went away immediately (100mg of caffeine).
