This is the entire point, it's individual. I wasn't arguing that a keto diet isn't faster for fat loss because it is and I've said this a million times. I was referring to lifestyle as a whole. Doing keto for anything except general fitness and dicking around with weights is NOT optimal, and it wouldn't be in almost any athletic endeavor. You can't spout your feedback loop nonsense and say keto is just flat out better because it isn't. Maybe for Joe Nerd who sits at a desk all day long, but for someone who kickboxes 5 days a week it would be a stupid idea, and that person would have no problem losing fat eating a ton of carbs.
I agree with you here. I'm not a keto 100% of the time advocate. Although like you say it depends on the person. If you're in sports or lifting fairly seriously you need carbs imo. Or at least you're better off that way.

All this means to me is there are multiple paths to being fit and lean.

Look, I get that you are too lazy and/or stupid to read or watch any of his actual work and are instead creating strawmen to argue against. I know this because had you bothered to actually try and learn anything you'd know that he isn't even close to a "low-carb" guy, he is the "Anti-sugar" guy. His work is amazingly insightful. thorough, and complete. Plus there is a lot of it out there, with everything except his recent book published in medical journals.

But go on, continue being dumb.
I've been dieting off and on for like 12 years. I've learn a shit ton about myself and know dozens of people who competed in various sports or competitions, even if they sucked at them, and got ripped in the process. I'm sure everyone else does too.

You read a book by someone with an agenda, and so everything else is wrong. The internet is filled with lemmings like you, it really doesn't affect me one way or the other, but I did enjoy learning that there is yet another person that I'm smarter than while reading your drivel on my lunch break.

Ah, the wonders of genetic diversity.

There are people that are the opposite of that you realize, like me. I eat ridiculously healthy, train BJJ for 2 hours 4-5 times a week and although I am in good shape am still a little chubby around the mid-section. The fact of the matter is that genes and upbringing also affect how insulin acts on an individual, and while some people can gorge on twinkies without getting fat (though they'd still probably get sick) some of us can't look at an apple without pudge out a little.

However, none of that has any impact on the health of a population of individuals, which you can't seem to comprehend.

Aww poor baby you lost the genetic lottery and now you can't get rid of your jellyfish stomach.

Excuses galore. Lustig got your back dog. Think on the bright side at least he isn't following you around with an IV and pumping you full of insulin during your BJJ class then you'd be REALLY fat.

Where do these momos come from? You are actually making me appreciate Dashel. I want to buy him a burger.

My issue is that he's saying you can't not eat. But what about the millions of skinny people who eat like shit and aren't packing on the pounds? What about the fat people whodolose weight? How did they do it if they have no control over their eating habits?

He's basically written a book that says "it's not your fault." Which is exactly what people want to hear. They don't want to take responsibility for the fact that maybe they fucked up and ate too much of the wrong kinds of food. Is the food industry partly to blame? Absolutely! But the individual who chose fast food because it tastes better and is quicker bears responsibility there too.

Shit, even you people arguing for this admit that changing your diet allowed you to lose weight. Which flies in the face of that video (and I'm not reading his book to find out what else he says, so spare me).
This is a complex subject full of nuances. Essentially though, your consciousness has the illusion that it has much more control than it actually does. You'd be surprised by how little about your daily lifeyou(as in the conscious "self" part of you) is actually in charge of. If I might recommend another great book that gives great insight into how a mind worksIncognito: The Secret Lives of the Brainis paradigm shattering.

It is unfair to criticize a book for saying something it doesn't say (because you haven't read it), Lustig often talks about personal responsibility beingnecessary but not sufficient. That is to say that it plays a role in fixing this public health issue, but alone it can't solve the problem.

He also talks about what part of personal responsibility is most effective, mainly controlling your environment, so that you can't quickly satisfy your biochemical urges.

You are truly, truly stupid. I think I would kill myself if I was as dumb as you.

The general rule for internet arguments is that when you tell someone to off themselves, regardless of the details of the argument, you lose.

to celebrate me dropping a shirt (from XL to L) and pant (from 38 to 34) size, today I went out and bought a new 55" samsung LED tv at costco to hook up to my PC and replace my fading LG, gonna be an intense Battlefield 3 game tonite! I even loaded it up into my wifes suv and brought it home solo, because, you know, I can lift (45 lbs).

This is old, but Lustig the quack actually replied to Aragon apparently.

edit: He's like Gary Taubes.
Crazy, but to me it sounds like Lustig is just trying to sell his bullshit. He cherry picks data and focuses on things in an all or nothing fashion, not as part of a total diet or diet plus activity. Alan brought it up several times that yeah, if you're just living off fructose you're probably going to get very ill. But that's a ridiculous argument against fructose. Just as I said before thatanythingin excess will be bad for you. And looking at individual food items outside of the rest of a diet doesn't work either. Like with the Twinkie not necessarily being a "bad" food.

Arkk, can you tone it down a bit in here? You have your sports weight loss thread to berate people in. Keep it a bit more low key in this one please.

That isn't "mine" I told Tuco to change the name on that years ago, it was made tongue in cheek. Feel free to do so.

And tone what down? Pointing out blind hero worship? Pfft. I got a guy telling me to kill myself and *I* have to tone it down? Lol.

You have a way of getting under people's skin when offering advice....or giving orders really.

I and others have flat out stopped posting about our progress in here because it seems like you're just waiting to rip many people apart. There's no need for that really in my opinion. Offering advice is cool and all but you take it pretty far at times.

As far as the go kill yourself, you pushed his buttons there too. lol But dont kill yourself, you have good tips when you aren't laughing at people and calling them stupid.
