Meh, I find that gyms are what you make of them. Barring obviously amazing gyms like... I forget the guy who posted here and his gym had like a rock wall and a pool and fucking gladiators that train with you and shit. My gym is pretty low end, but they do a lot of shit with the community and kids and stuff so I like it. Plus it is cheeap as fuck and my kids are learning a second language in day care! Maybe.

They do occasional party type things too, nothing wrong with that really. People come, they do whatever, they get a bite, it's fun. Well, old people fun, when I was a kid I would have thought this was bullshit and gone out drinking. Now I like just eating hot dogs and shit with other parents while we watch our kids fuck with each other.

We had a party once at my old gym and I ate a hot dog with a guy that had Downs Syndrome. The conversation was dull, but the dude was ripped as hell. I'll never forget it.

Lifetime is the gym I go to, it's the one rich folks go to. Great showers, provide towels, have Rockwall, full basketball courts racquetball and squash courts and all the ameneties. They even have kid activities like wall climbing and karate u just drop your rats off. They also do birthday parties in a gym for them on the weekends. It's expensive, but I want to go to the gym. Almost never a wait for equipment or weights. Free weights get a bit busy in Mondays though.

If u have one near you, take a tour. They tens to be larger than most strip malls. I believe they give u a free week as well.

Hitting the spa or sauna after a workout then taking a shower with softened water is great and you walk out feeling 10x better than when you walked in.

I found a new bare bones gym I'm gonna check out near my house...the hardcore ones with like 3 except use bikes and a shitload of free weights reminds me of working out in high school.

How much does that cost?

Heh I feel like shit after going to the gym. I'm fucking drained then I have to wrangle my kids and get them in the car, hurry home, make a meal for them and me, get ready for work, then go to work. But it is only immediately that I feel that way, for the rest of the day I feel great. I think if I had time for a ritual like that with the sauna that would be great.

One day when money isn't so tight and the kids are older I can see myself splurging for a gym like that. Right now though, meh, I just need someone to watch the kids so I can punish myself for an hour and a half.

80/month

They closed for renovations for a week so I got a free week at 24 hour fitness and it made me realize how much I loved lifetime. They'll also do free basic assessments for free, like bmi and v02 and strength anytime you want. You can pay (or use your free bucks thingies) to get the advanced one where they pull out the oxygen mask and electrodes while you're on a treadmill.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm paying like 45 a month right now for me, my wife and child care. Super super cheap.

That's a good deal. 80/month is for one person. Used to be 70 and my old job covered 75/mo for gym so I'd also get a free protein shake at the cafe. I have no idea what a family plan would cost, probably 200/mo for you wife and the kids.

I pay 35/month for LA Fitness, but they don't provide much in the term of extras. We don't even get towels. They have some gay fitness-oriented Facebook site, though. Yay?

*Edit* The best thing about my gym is it's in the same shopping center as a big grocery store, which makes picking up dinner easy.

We go to Work out World here.. $10/month and it's 24 hours. It's packed to fuck between 5PM->10PM though
That's a good deal. In High school me and my friend would pay a 5 buck walk in fee to work out at gyms that were like the gym from dodgeball.

Yeah I actually pay $20/month, but it gives half off all beverages and I can bring any non-member person with me every day as long as I'm there.. plus free tanning.

It's a nice gym and it's only acouple of years old. Used to play $50/mon for one that sounds like what you go to.

Retro, 20/month. Terrible fucking gym that's cramped and has nothing but meatheads.

At times, it's inspiring. Other times, I want to kill myself.

Ugh, I went to an InShape here for a month trial. They don't provide towels either (think it was like an extra $5 a month or some shit). Absolutely ridiculous. Plus, it was like a 3 year minimum contract. Get fucked with that.

I go to the base on gym for free. It's tiny, but it's got the same amount of equipment (2 benches, 2 power racks, etc). I don't need to see cardio bunnies on the 800 treadmills for a 3 year contract and no towels.

Yeah, but sometimes those bunnies can be nice to look at. Well, rarely. I probably see more than average because I live in a college town and my gym(planet fitness) is in the mall.

I don't see what's wrong with a cheapo gym as long as you can get the exercise you're looking for. I don't do free weights or racks(is that the right term?), so perhaps I'm not experienced in the deficiencies my gym might have.

Some people don't enjoy being cramped, or need certain amenities.

I certainly don't. Squat rack, dumbbells, and all the machines I need are there. 20/month? Sign me up! It's also 3 blocks away so I walk lol.

I went in and checked out prices at a couple of MMA gyms. I wasn't quite expecting the price tag associated with them. One was $150/mo the other was $170/mo. It gets you access to all of the classes they teach, more than just the programs I was interested in. Technically they have some machines and such like a normal gym, but not much of anything. I need to sell my first house before I stack on a commitment like this. May have to get a normal gym membership in the meantime.

Ya, MMA gyms are mostly about hype and making $$. I was an amature boxer for years and my dues were never over $15 a month and most the time it was free after you had been at the club awhile and showed some commitment.
