How much should I counter-offer considering I'll need to be surrounded by douchey hipster shitlords in Cambridge the entire day?

No. They are just taxed at maximum to make sure you don't owe come tax time.

It will be returned based on what your final income taxes are at the end of the year.
Thanks. I assumed it was a false misconception I had. I knew it was taxed higher but didn't see it got returned to you at tax time.

Getting a network engineer job without professional experience and just a CCNA

I don't have a bachelor's degree at all and thats hurting me a lot I feel.
Just curious...what type of positions are you applying for with no experience and no degree? Not shitting on you or anything, I'm honestly curious. I wouldn't mind changing careers into that direction but I'm in the same boat. I have a lot of self-taught knowledge but no formal degree or experience.

What would you counter with if you had 100% job security and didn't give a shit if this place accepted your counter or not? That's what you counter with.

I agree on recruiters and many HR people have no clue about the jobs they are filing and get a wish list from someone else and can't make an educated leap of someone is qualified or not. I applied for a PM job once and the lady called me and said they gave her requirements of X number of years doing Y in the petro chemical industry. She wanted to know if places I had done work like Exxon/Mobil, Dow Chemical etc...were in the petro chemical industry. Then she asked what exactly is the petro chemical industry as she had never heard of it.

That's when I decided to bypass the HR and recruiters for the most part and send it directly and it has worked out much better.

There would be riots in my industry. A bonus normally is between 10% and 50% of gross salary. It's amusing to watch guys get a bonus and think that is their standard pay from now on and will be all kinds of shit and the next year it goes from 30% to 15% and they have to sell a vehicle or whatever else.

It is also an indication of company health. Since i moved to a new company lets see how is the bonus thing over here.

I don't even care about bonuses, if we get them great if not, then I know what I made this year and I'll factor that into my decision to leave. So if you want to try to rope me in with bonuses, fine, you might get one cycle out of me but then I'll leave and tell everyone in town your bonuses are bullshit. You'll then counter by saying "well clearly they didn't do the work to merit bonuses" etc as damage control and people will make up their own minds.

It all gets taxed eventually at the same rate, but your withholding will be much more a bonus normally depending on where you fall on the tax withholding.
Agreed, but he specifically said "taxed". To be honest I'm kind of surprised that someone who's reasonably intelligent and educated wouldn't be aware of how income tax and withholding works. At it's core, income tax, capital gains etc are pretty simple concepts. Unless you're an investment banker or own a hedge fund. In the eyes of the tax man, a bonus is plain old income. Why would it be taxed any differently?

Because they look at the percentage taken out on their bonus check and simply wait for the tax refund each year. That's the end of their involvement in taxes.

You'd be surprised how many otherwise educated and intelligent people are totally clueless and yet extremely surly about the topic of taxes.
