Whatever, between selling magic cards, my fellowship stipend and this shit job, I'm going to be making like 80k this year. In a few more months I'll be able to live like a normal human being again for the first time in over 5 years.
Good job Mist. Happiness is just a state of mind, try to see the positive in your life (I'm sure you will see this as a prompt to rattle off the negatives... don't) and take it one day at a time. Make a 1 year and 5 year plan and figure out how to get there, and work towards it every day.

Keep plugging away man, once you get your foot in the door you're set. How long have you been applying to positions?
Passed my CCNA August 29th, and been applying since then. I figure the first month is a wash, as HR departments start to look at resumes, and my resume gets saturated around. It's a little annoying, but I'm certainly not discouraged. I really enjoy networking, and once I get my foot in the door somewhere, I'm golden. It's crazy how a little professional experience, at least in IT, can make such a huge difference.

It's like that with any job really, the first job is always the hardest.

I just got lucky that my internship lead to a good job.

The keyword is internship.

Today, no internship means no job. You can't jerk-off during College summers. These are your years to learn how to function at a company.

Given a choice between an A+ Student w/o an internship and a B+ Student w/ an internship I will take the B+ student.

I learned far more at my internship about being an actual real world developer than I did in college

BINGO. Junior developers with no prior experience are useless. I don't want to be paying you a full salary to learn what you should at an internship.
The world has changed. People need to accept this.

Pretty sure ever Entry Level Developer I've seen hired at the last few companies has been an internship conversion.

Yeah me too. I did driver development which was UEFI - a very transferrable skill in firmware, for like 2 years straight (interned 2 years here). When I went to move to BIOS it was a no-brainer, I already knew the very framework everything was built upon. The rest was just C.

Without an internship I could definitely see myself starting at a lower-tier somewhere else, probably not even in embedded engineering. But with the internship, they already knew I was worth the time. This is in stark contrast to the 'old guy' we have working here that transferred with no experience, he's absolutely lost. Much like I was when I was getting paid $24/hr to intern.

Company came back and offered 87000 and $7500 sign-on bonus. Looks like that's the best I'll get out of them, probably gonna do it.

Make it your mission to learn as much as you can, get on diverse projects and just dive in, in about 18 months. Then look again and you can probably get up in the $110k range. And so on and so forth until you make 7 figures like lendarios.

The problem is a lot of companies have figured this out and just end up using the interns to fetch coffee and other random clerical work without actually teaching them anything in their field, knowing they'll stay because they need to put "interned for company in XXXXXX field" on their resume.
