Good job Mist. Happiness is just a state of mind, try to see the positive in your life (I'm sure you will see this as a prompt to rattle off the negatives... don't) and take it one day at a time. Make a 1 year and 5 year plan and figure out how to get there, and work towards it every day.
Oh no, I'm still absolutely and totally miserable to a level that's impossible to relate. But at least now I feel with some certainty that the misery will end in 6-8 months.

So my boss, who is also a friend of mine, informed me that there will be some departmental cuts soon and since I'm the newest I'll be first in line. I'm not sure how much time I have but I've begun my job search.

My job was a bit boring but I enjoyed it for the most part, and the pay was pretty good. Pretty frustrated right now.

How much time do you suspect? I forgot what field do you work in?

It's a lot safer legally than performance or behavior in many cases, and there is an assumption that seniority correlates with both performance and behavior.

Does it annoy anyone else that so many places make hiring/firing decisions entirely based on seniority?
What if you worked for a company and they laid you off after being there for, say, 15 years. And some guy that just started kept his job?

It goes both ways I think. There's no 'easy' way to lay people off.

I mean I guess it could be good if you did like a poll in the office "Which shitlord do you hate the most?" and culled the personnel that way.

Not really, they will get what they deserve with a bunch of complacent fucktards who only know the one way to do things and are too chicken shit to branch out. Entire company will be staffed with them. So ... if they want to commit suicide, its their rope.

Probably within a week or so, soon enough where I'm probably gonna box stuff up in my office today or tomorrow.

I work sales support in distributed print (print, signs and graphics, direct mail) for large companies like Best Buy, 3M and other fortune 500's.

Oddly enough, it's not. We continue to see year over year growth. However my company is the only one of the major players that have a position like mine so they are going to downsize it to see if they notice a downtick in performance it seems.

It was bittersweet telling my boss, but he understood.

Now he just stopped by to reopen it for a counter-offer...

ugh..

I know the rule is to not accept it, I just kind of don't want to deal with it but I didn't want to be rude either.

Just say no, Noods. Unless they put it in writing that you are guaranteed to be paid at X level with Y increases annually for the next Z years it's just going to end up with you getting the boot sooner or later. It also shows you are not a company man and will be first in line for firings.
