I can't imagine seeing a semi coming at me like that. Damn, glad you're okay. It feels weird walking away from something like that with no issues.

I had a similar thing happen to me a couple months ago in a 25mph zone. My light turned green and half way through the intersection an illegal drunk driver in a Suburban ran his red light at 60+ mph and took off the front end of my 4Runner. He hit me at full speed, then flipped and rolled 3 times and came to a stop 300' away, upside down. My vehicle got pushed backwards about 25' - 30', then just rolled forward and stopped. NO AIRBAGS went off in the 4Runner for some reason. The front was sheared off just in front of the tire and engine block. Police watched a Ring video and said 1/4 second more and no chance I'd have lived from a hit like that.

I had a slight bump on my head, soar shoulder muscle, and stubbed my finger. But other than that little stuff, I had no real injuries and went to work the next day.

5 vehicles were damaged in the wreck but I was the only one with any insurance!
But happy ending they die at least?

Nope, he crawled out of the Suburban and tried to hide behind some bushes but the cops caught him. All air bags inside of his vehicle deployed.

How long ago? "Whiplash" related stuff can come up after a few days, happened to my sister-in-law recently. Similar speed impact, though a similar sized vehicle to hers. Felt fine until later in the week. Fortunately, nothing some rest and a bit of motrin couldn't take care off. But you never know.

Couple days. I know things could still show up, I'm hoping for the best. No stiffness or anything yet. Let's hope for the best.

That is intense. Cars are a ton safer now, but they're also so much heavier now, so if you DO get T-boned it's a matter of luck if you survive. It's what took the wife out last summer, though it wasn't a drunk driver, just a female one :p (I'm fine now, used to the single parent stuff now lol)

Absolutely rustled how many people just straight up don't have insurance. VA made some insurance law changes here, but we have a lot of illegals on the road still. Steer clear of any Nissan with paper plates!!!

There's definitely some similarities, but as far as I know the design was well on the way before the Rivian partnership was a thing.

Wake me when they make a gas version. Miss me with that EV dogshit.
Apparently, one of the options will be with a gas powered range extender engine/generator. Kind of the best of worlds? Obviously depends on how well it's implemented, but I'm curious and can see the benefit.

I designed the top IP panel and the abag chute for the R2 which is coming like next year? 2026? Tools are being cut right now.

Well, keep on, keeping on. I enjoyed my QX60 where you designed...the center stack wood curved thing? or well we talked about that awhile ago.

How do you get to be... "random part of random car interior designer" and why are those 2 items you mentioned but not the entire "dash" or "steering area" done by one shop/house

We do entire CPM (cockpit module) for Nissan. Which is the entire Instrument panel and also the center console. We ship the whole damn thing ready to install on the Nissan assembly line. We used to be part owned by Nissan back like 10 yrs ago so we did like 90% of nissans interiors. But since then we got sold off but still Nissan relies on us for 80% of their shit, lol.

But there are many design engineers on a project. I usually design and engineer the IP "substrate" thats my specialty. Its the part that all the other parts screw/clip into. Its basically the support structure behind all those pretty trim parts. But I have worked on all parts of the IP over the years, and also the console too. The Rivian job was only for the Upper panel and the abag chute. I guess it was kind of a test program to see how nice of a job we do in engineering and final finished product. Plus we are kind of experts in the abag thing. We have a whole test facility with a $500K high speed camera that we test the things and see how they perform. But sometimes jobs are just like that. Only a few parts or one small assembly out of the IP. For the GM stuff we only make parts to print for them. They design and engineer them and we take them, make sure they are feasible for tooling, then other division designs and makes the tools and then make the parts and ship to GM. There are even "minor model year" changes we do. Where most of the IP stays the same but they want to fit a bigger screen in the center, or change the hard trim to soft, add new electronics, shit like that. sometimes those are the most challenging because they want to fit 50lbs into a 10lbs area and not change too many parts around it.

As to how I got here? Well I went to college for the shit BSME, and while I was going to school I got a co-op job at a design place working on sheetmetal body parts for Ford when I was 19 in 1992. Then over the years and many jobs later I wound up in a place that does IPs, lol.
