Probably a Hellcat. Or the other extreme a Volvo Sxx was an option until I found they don't make an 8 cylinder.
Looking new, used, or both? If Hellcats, I'm assuming used. You could get an S80 with a Yamaha V8 until maybe 2010 or so.

Hellcats are cheap now, but watch out for abuse to the car. A lot fell into the hands of irresponsible people. You could probably find a Redeye wide body for 50-60.

So... Took my car into the shop today.

Around a year and a half ago I had a strange sound happening at highway speeds. Slight low roaring, which would change in pitch with speed rather than with RPM. So I figured it to be on the back side of the transmission or in the differential. (2017 Cadillac CTS V-sport). Of course the Caddy transmissions are now "sealed self contained" which means you can't even check the fluid levels without putting it up on a rack. So a year and a half ago I took it to the dealer who had always been solid in the past. Their only solution "Replace the whole transmission, $16k" with no explanation as to what was actually wrong. I told them I'd have to think about it, so button her back up and I'd pick her up. Apparently in the "checking" they did something which fixed the roaring sound. So I kept on Truckin...

Now a year and a half later it's back. My suspicion now is a very slow transmission fluid leak, that in this case takes around a year to get low enough to have any effect. No effect on shifting, or driving, just the low roar sound. The car is also right at 100k miles, so time for the 100k maintenance and spa day. I take it into a shop I've discovered since (that was the last time I went to the dealer for anything, and this shop was recommended as great by some fellow CTS owners I have talked to.). Going to fix the transmission, get front end bushings replaced, the usual 100k check over, new plugs and a tune up.

Anybody want to place bets on how much the bill will end up being?

Doesn't your car have the Vette drivetrain as well? If so, go over to the corvette forums and look up some recommended shops close to you. I think 21st Century Muscle Cars is a popular, often recommended one close-ish to you.

Fuck dealers, even the "good" ones are charging something like 30% over good independent shops (who have the same or better skilled mechanics).

No, in up until the early 2020's there were two "V models".
  1. CTS V - Supercharged Vette powertrain. Fire breathing 4 door dragon.
  2. CTS V-sport - A more modest Twin Turbo 3.6l engine (still drops 420 to the wheels and does a 4.2 sec 0-60, but not quite fire breathing)
I have the latter. If I ever retire this one I will probably pick up a full on V, and an older one. Since they have been watering down the power train options over time. Now I will say 21st Century muscle cars is highly recommended for the tweaking and upgrades in the V-sport circles. I've been debating a trip by there to see what the elective options for my car would be.
