Pulled a muscle in the lower center of my back when I bent over to pick up a fucking gas can.

At least once or twice a year this happens. Fucking bullshit.

Probably belongs in the 'too old thread' but it sucks to get old and hurt yourself like that while sleeping, or even randomly breathing lol :*(

You were probably twisting (even just a bit) as you bent over. Transverse movements cause the majority of injuries like that because the muscles that govern those movements get the least amount of exercise.
So planks it is then i guess. Kind of annoying as I squat and deadlift twice a week, of course then Im making sure my form is consistently good.

or just do a search for 'transverse exercises' and pick a couple that feel right.

Well that's unfortunate because I'm told to work on my core to help with my blown back. Cuts down on sciatic pain etc when i go too long without excersize.

It's good advice. A strong core will help your back. However, planks isn't a good way to do that.

I was fishing for if you had a go to suggestion. ^_^.

Oh, sorry, lol. Anything that engages your stomach, but doesn't stress your back. IE: not the old school exercises like sit-ups and planks and such.

Hanging leg lifts, machine assisted crunches (not laying on the ground, but using a piece of equipment that isolates the stomach) weighted torso twists with a cable machine. There are more, but it will depend on how wonky your back is and why. A consultation with a specialist would be best, even if it's just a conversation.

This a billion times.

I had lower back issues for a decade due to shitty shoulder press technique and an unfortunate twist. It would completely cease up every 2 years or so putting me down for at least a couple of days. Once so bad I could not even walk for a day.

Core exercises is now a fundamental part of every single workout I do. Sit-ups front and side, leg lifts and thrusts for lower. Several lower back stretches and strengthening exercises as well. Every rest period between reps is taken up by some sort of core exercise. (and forearms because it helps with the wrist weakness and carpal issues from vidya gaming and working on the computer).

And I have not had a lower back problem or even twinge in another decade.

Addendum - But, like Burren said, Big P, be gentle until you are at a point you can really start strengthening it up. Lower back shit is CHRONIC and you have to work to keep it at bay.

Had to go into a crawl space today. Not a big deal I do it about 3 times a week.

The door to this one was 12 inches. That’s fine it opened up a bit on the other side

but then we had to crawl 50 feet and the drain we had to reach was on the other side of a beam. Someone or something had dug out a small tunnel beneath the beam.

I got under there and onto the other side and just geeked out. Felt like I was trapped. No air flow. Really hot. It was filled with HVAC tubes and I couldn’t find the drain and bailed

The guy I was riding with tried three times and had the same thing happen to him

I only went in because he couldn’t really fit and I’m smaller

anyway we told the dispatcher and he told us to charge the owner. We tried to argue but he said do it so I took the invoice and went inside. Told the owner, “Our dispatcher wants to charge you but if you say no I’ll walk right out of here and won’t bother you again, because we couldn’t do it. I’m sorry.”

he said no hard feelings and told us he wouldn’t pay.

Then the dispatcher calls later and says he is going to send me and another guy (who is also bigger than me) to try again tomorrow

I’m not super claustrophobic but it was different down there

Reminds me of the time I turned my high school debate teacher's hood ornament 90 degrees before we drove off to a debate to another school. He didn't notice it at first, but when he did it eventually bothered him so much he had to stop the car, get out and orient it correctly before finishing the trip. Jimmies were rustled that day and high school boys were greatly entertained.

Checking web portal for results of doctor visit (normal annual blood work) and notice 3 conditions that I don't have and out of nowhere I'm a smoker.

Considering how nice or not I'm going to be about this.

The average general practitioner offices have gone down hill a lot in the last 10 years or so. I have my specialists setup and go directly to them. I only go to the GP for my annual blood work.
