I had someone working for me fur out a room in the basement last week. Today we were hanging drywall, and found out the worthless twat of a man did the studs on 17 inch centers. Not 16 inches, 17. I told him he could continue to work if he, on his own time and cost today, got new studs, put them where they should be, so we could drywall tomorrow. He said "Nah, I'll just quit." He then asked when he could pick up his last paycheck. I told him after I figured out how much he owes us for incompetence. He said he'd sue me if I don't pay him (we're talking about $600 here), I said I'd welcome that, and I'd countersue him for gross incompetence as everything was laid out perfectly for him, and he not only couldn't follow instructions, but had provided exactly none of the work he promised he'd do.
I know some of you are building houses, or having work done. Please be nice to your contractors. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find people who aren't stupid, who show up to work, who don't come to work stoned, and who can follow simple instructions? It's bloody ridiculous. I have a crew that is awesome. Totally reliable and competent. But I have so many things going right now I have to hire some extras. It's unreal how stupid people are.
Fucking 17 inches. What in the actual fuck? Lost a day of work, had to pay wages to people to fix it and pay for new materials, puts me behind where I thought I'd be, and have to reorganize my trusted workers to make up for this shit stain. I just about rage ripped-out everything he did, but that would have ended up with more loss.
