No chance in hell I'd watch this but I'm curious to ask those who have.

How blatant is the cheating & cuckolding at the beginning of the movie?

I was told this had been toned down from the relatively filthy girlporn book version, but then I read it starts with a cuckolding scene. Which leaves me wondering which version of "kid appropriate" we're dealing with here.

Is it obvious what happened (cheating / cuckolding)?
Does the mom suffer any consequences for it?

'Wicked' Movie Synopsis

The movie begins in the wonderful land of Oz, right after Dorothy has killed the Wicked Witch of the West. All of Oz celebrates her defeat.

But then, Galinda, the Good Witch of the North, begins to tell us a much different story, the story of Elphaba Thropp, known to us as the Wicked Witch.

Elphaba was born with emerald-green skin, and thus faces prejudice and misunderstanding due to her pigmentation. Her Mom cheated on her Dad with an unseen man, and that man gave her mom a green potion that lead to her unnatural skin color.

As she grows up, she has no friends and is as cast out. Her Dad favors her wheelchair-bound sister, Nessa, and is distantly cruel to Elphaba.

When it's time for Nessa go to Shiz University, Elphaba tags along to help her, but when she displays her magical powers, she's invited to stay by the Madame Morrible. Morrible is a bit of a mystery to us, but wants to give Elphaba witch lessons to harness her powers.

At Shiz, Elphaba starts out bullied by everyone, including her roommate, Galinda, who only lets her stay in her room because she wants to be a witch too, and thinks Madame Morrible will teach her how to be one if she's nice to Elphaba.

Eventually, both women become friends after bonding at the Ozdust ballroom.

Despite their differences, they navigate the challenges of school, social pressures, and even find themselves drawn to the same charming man, Fiyero. He's handsome and seems perfect.

Morrible sees a lot of potential in Elphaba, and begins to tutor her in order to help her release her magical powers.

But as Elphaba and Galinda get deeper into school, they discover all is not well in Oz. Elphaba learns from Dr. Dillamond, a talking Goat history professor, that Animals across Oz are being stripped of their rights and voices.

Dr. Dillamond is forced to retire, replaced by a professor who cruelly experiments on animals.

In a fake form of homage, Galinda changes her name to 'Glinda' to honor the way Dr. Dillamond said her name.

Elphaba and Fiyero, disgusted, free a lion cub from the professor's clutches. They bond and we see that they actually have a crush on each other, and that Fiyero maybe doesn't have as strong feelings for Glinda anymore.

Elphaba is summoned to the Emerald City by the Wizard, and Glinda tags along with her as her best friend.

But after meeting the Wizard, whos is charming, they learn of a book called the grimoire, which can only be read by the most powerful magical people. Morrible shows up to encourage Elphaba to read the book, and Glinda concurs.

But Elphaba is tricked into casting a spell that gives the Wizard's monkey guards wings, revealing his true tyrannical nature. We learn that neither Morrible nor the Wizard can read the grimoire.

And they now want to use these winged monkeys as spies to help them stop the talking animals from existing in Oz.

Horrified, Elphaba rejects their offer to help them rule Oz, and tries to escape with Glinda. But Glinda is not ready to be part of a rebellion, she thinks it might be better to just be on the Wizard's side.

Glinda tries to convince Elphaba to surrender, but Elphaba chooses to fight for the oppressed. Bidding a tearful farewell to her friend, Elphaba uses her magic to escape the city, soaring into the unknown on a broomstick.

As Elphaba embraces her newfound identity and her extraordinary powers, she sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the fate of Oz.

It sets the story up for Part II, as Elphaba rejects the Wizard's offer and vows to fight against him, solidifying her position as an enemy of the state and showing the audience why she was called the "Wicked Witch."

Elphaba has to embrace her new identity and become a symbol of the resistance against the Wizard and Morrible.

Ahh another subversion piece. Making the evil people good ala the acolyte. Now I know where they stole the dumb idea from. The acolyte was just this trash transformed into the star wars universe.

There are good musicals, there just have not been any since Broadway took the mask off and went full on gay. And that was a while ago. Movies that are musicals that don't suck have been few and far between, but a few guilty pleasures of mine over the years include:
Xanadu
Tommy
The Wall
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Little Shop of Horrors
Rock and Rule
Hair
All that Jazz
Blues Brothers
The Wiz
The Book of Mormon

So yeah aside from the Book of Mormon, you pretty much have Broadway going to shit first from the woke invasion (went from all time classics like Music Man, Grease, West Side Story, Fantastics to gay as fuck shit like Rent pretty much in the 70s) then movies following suit beginning with that 90 minute fag commercial known as Moulan Rouge. Disney had a good run of cartoon musicals, but then shit like Frozen and the live action Disney Remakes injecting pallet swaps and gay into the classics. Then the most epically bad Musical of all time in any format, the Cats movie, put a fucking stamp on that.

So yeah, outside of the odd abberation like Book of Mormon, the fag invasion of all forms of media and entertainment began its onslaught with theatre. We just did not notice or care because everyone just assumed fags run that shit already, plus the 70s were so transformative for the movie industry in general that public attention was simply not on the stage. And the result is in the span of my lifetime we have gone from thought provoking and entertaining shit to unwatchable pander fests like Hamilton. And worse, we have these woke pushing cunts like the green goblin queen in this movie trashing the core audience to virtue signal before the audience even gets a chance to weigh the material on its own merrits.

Yeah I am sick of this shit too. It _can_ be done in an interesting way that does not undermine the source material. But its usually some thinly disguised woke message meant to tear down a beloved IP and, as you stated, subvert culture. Ironically, you have both a good example of this and bad example of this in the same show, with Kobra Kai. And even modern woke writers can be capable of pulling this off (see latest Penguin series). But usually its preachy bullshit designed to condition the audience to embrace evil/degeneracy and tear down the original lesson the told by the story they are leeching off of. Disney's live action remakes have been the biggest offenders of this of late, but its basically become the woke go to lazy writing manuever for a while now.

How does the penguin subvert anything?

He goes from a piece of shit small time crook/psychopath to a piece of shit mob boss?

He's never portrayed as the good guy. He's just dealing with a lot of other pieces of shit so you can root for him to win.

In the acolyte the sith are the good guys and the jedi are evil monsters murdering a community of nice lesbian witches just trying to protect their innocent children from being kidnapped.

Arent those all from the full on gay era of musicals, though?

I'm not a musical fan, but growing up you guys know how it was - we didnt all go off in our own rooms and watch different stuff. We watched what was on, together.

So naturally I've seen a few.
The Sound of Music is a great story with zero fag influence. We watched that once a year growing up.
The Music Man
Oklahoma

This was the classic era of musicals for me. I could respect this genre even if its not my thing. But the gay musicals... ugh. I guess it was one of the first insitutions they captured.

So this has been a musical on broadway for a while… it didn’t make up the bad guy is good just now in 2024.

However… yeah it’s always been straight up woman power that’s makes no sense if you look at it objectively. And yeah getting a black woman for the wicked witch is just even more on the nose.

And she doesn’t die, she fakes her death w the water. She does however inadvertently curse people and made the tin man, scarecrow etc… the timing of things are kinda all janky to make it fit in with the OG movie.

She also legit is the only one with “real” power but has no idea how to use it etc- and so then the powers that be are torn between elemenating her and controlling her - but since she trusts no one, and wont work w oz / the system they brand her evil etc.

The entire thing is a bla bla bla let’s all sing defying gravity! Women horah

Wait, is the school really called Shiz University? WTF? Does Snoop Dogg teach there?

After reading that plot summary, if I were tied down and forced to watch this, I would swallow my own tongue instead.

Ariana makes it watchable. It's not just because she's attractive, she actually sings really nice. I didn't mind as long as she was on screen. She also shows emotion well with her eyes, which is cool. I also want to add that all this happens because of a talking goat. A goat that we never actually see teaching anything. Fucking useless in my opinion. Shiz is also the dumbest name ever, it's super cringe every time somebody says it.

Oh and the movie had a 6 day opening weekend. Not 3. Screening on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday previews. Then Friday Saturday and Sunday.

It makes you emotionally invested and empathetic to a completely irredeemable villian. Make no mistake, its incredibly well written and acted. But if you watched that show, you know that it was set up in a way that for at least parts of it you empathize with Oz and/or Sophia who are both completely evil and shitty people. Hell, you are practically rooting for them at certain points. Then the finale disabuses you of any of the benefit of the doubt you were extending to those characters in the harshest possible way. American Psycho is another interesting variation on this type of storytelling. These are good examples of subversion, where there really is no protagonist. Most of the better mafia movies operate on this premise as well, getting you emotionally invested and rooting for a terrible person, instead of it being the standard protagonist/hero's journey core story. Its just not as obvious because there is no "good guy" to be found so the audience is manipulated into putting a bad character into that role in their minds.

Its great storytelling when done correctly, but most modern writers are lazy hack pieces of shit. And mix in The Message with the whole shitty writing thing and it turns into a total crapfest really fast. It is especially bad when the writer accidentally does something brilliant and then hates the audience's interpretation so much that they shit on their own work. See the first Joker movie vs the second, as a glaring example of this. I always like the idea of the "bad guy" not being the bad guy from their own point of view (to varying degrees) or when you are given reasons as a viewer to understand how they became the way they are. But if the main character of your story is going to be a villian, you have to be a really good writer to not end up with some virtue signalling shit show, especially if the main character is some trumped up Mary Sue or Self Insert (see Harley Quinn in every movie, the Maleficent movies, Black Adam, Mystique, ect). We used to have better writers and actors, who gave us subversive antiheroes in films like Apocalypse Now, Scarface, Devil's Advocate, ect. Now we got bald lesbian sheboon activist who lashes out at the fans having a virtue signalling pitty party.... or anything Made of Netflix.

In writing its the concept of the center of good. the value that anchors the story and allows you to become invested. For example the godfather. they are evil violent men. But you can root for them because they value family and loyalty and are willing to do what most of us would like to do or wish we could in those types of circumstances. Penguin borrows from this and executes it perfectly. but that ending where he disabuses you of that notion is why that reveal and flash of insight re orders the way you look at the entire piece and is the highest form of narrative.

This is borrowed from Mckee
If the latter, the most satisfying, and therefore talked about, Story Climaxes tend to be those in which the writer has saved one last rush of insight that sends the audience’s mind back through the entire story. In a sudden flash of insight the audience realizes a profound truth that was buried under the surface of character, world and event. The whole reality of the story is instantly reconfigured. This insight not only brings a flood of new understanding, but with that, a deeply satisfying emotion. As a recent example: the superb Climax of GRAN TORINO.

Yeah I think Fight Club might be the ultimate example of that sort of story telling, truely a movie you never experience the same after an initial viewing. Let this be Our Final Battlefield from OG Trek (the one with the half black half white guys) pulled this off twice in the same episode and tackled a modern social issue in a balanced and compelling way that let the audience figure things out after the two big reveals. The ending of No Way out basically did this concept, but in complete reverse and is still a brilliant movie.

If what I am hearing about the plot of this one is correct, its basically Wicked Witch is really good guy and justified in doing a bunch of thinly disguised commie bullshit. So the lesson is that after seeing all this evil from the big bad wizard, she goes on to do even more heinous shit in the future? So I guess everyone was right to judge her for her skin color and background? Completely fucked story telling and probably some lesbian bitches self insert character, ala Mindy Curry Cunt in that Velma abomination.

Nothing Elphaba has done in this part can be considered as good other than her intentions started out as well meaning. All her magical displays are destructive or objectively malicious. Even when she tried to help someone it ends up being fucked up, like when she mutilated the monkeys with wings. When the wings pop out of their backs, they're portrayed as being in pain. Anyone thinking she's the good guy in this wasn't paying attention. Galinda tries her best to make everyone accept Elphaba and because everyone loves Galinda, they trust her enough to give Elphaba a chance. But by the end of the movie, the shit is hitting the fan and they damned well know who is responsible. They just don't know who manipulated her into becoming green Voldemort.

South Park: The Movie is also a musical

Little Shop of Horrors was awesome though. As kids we used to sing the dentist song as we drove to the dentist lol

Elphaba has to embrace her new identity and become a symbol of the resistance against the Wizard and Morrible.

yes. Wicked was ground zero for this shit. it was cute and subversive 20 years ago. when it was a play for adults, and niche. Now, its mainstream. everything is subversive. Nothing is genuine. nothing is sincere. nothing has good morals. right is wrong, wrong is right.

it really is fucked when you think about it. When everyone grew up on the morality of the Wizard of oz. there is that strong morality you can play with. but now, no kid is growing up on a strong moral foundation. its ALL subversive bullshit.
