Those are the only two songs that are known… and the popular song is hallarious as it literally about how leaders, etc are not smart, or anything but just popular.

And yes as stated this was one of the first bad guy is good crap…

incredable songs and cast.
idina menzel, and kristine chenoweth

and remember, Broadway/newyork. newyorker, etc.. a bunch of elitist snobs, who just love subversive bullshit, as much as they love things that talk about how great they are.

heres the original Popular.

didnt find a great version of defying gravity. but heres the 2004 tonys version.

Idina and Kristine are great broadway singers. Grande is a downgrade for sure. Sad thing is Chenoweth isn't aging well. She used to be cute af when she was younger.

I don't understand why people are saying this is a hit?

Numbers are about the same as little black mermaid?

I guess they are looking forward to a big Thanksgiving weekend?
It helps that the reported budget is 100 million less. It will also heavily benefit from Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday period. I would say it's guaranteed to make $300+ million domestically with a shot at 400.

300 mill budget for both parts combined, considering the need for large sets, casts, and cgi that's relatively downright cheap. Marketing wasn't as required other then to get the word out that a movie was coming out, its a very well known and loved Broadway play so the story is known and they don't need to sell the audience on the story. A "success" according to Deadline for part 1 is 290 mill WW and its over half way there without it opening pretty much anywhere but NA. Its also done well critically and with verified viewers which will drive people into seats over Thanksgiving into early December with a lack of other movies until maybe Mufasa in late December since Moana 2 didn't get the release it was hoping for.

Yeah, I was splitting the budget down the middle since there's two. That said, not sure why you don't think Moana 2 isn't competition. It had very large preshow numbers. Most projections think it's going to open larger than Wicked.

For some reason I thought it came out earlier. You are right it is for families.

Moana2 is likely to knock Wicked out of the top spot. Unless there were were enough chicks who didn't see Wicked the first week to go see it on week two.

Gerald Butler Phantom still best phantom and best movie adaptation

I give 0 care what it was written, the phantom should be at least baritone - sorry not sorry.

We took the in-laws to this for Thanksgiving as a thing to do. I don't dislike musicals and usually can be entertained enough. I couldn't get in to this one. The coming of age tale of the misunderstood different girl and how she is truly great and everyone else is shallow was too much.

A healthy portion of this is me being a curmudgeon. I don't feel a special connection to The Wizard of Oz, but portraying Glinda as a vapid mean girl and The Wizard as, not just a villain but, a racist villain rather than a bumbling normie does it a disservice. Wicked is what the youths of today already remember. Back in my day, blah blah blah.

I will say the dancing scene made me feel feelings. Cameos were funny but felt a bit forced. The only arc of the story I am interested in is the animals and apparently that is a net new for the movie?

Special shout out Bowen Yang, I have never liked him comedically or his face and he makes everything worse :p. Also, to the humble black theater cloak that slowly evolved into a car dealer sized American flag.

All said, the wife and mother in law thought it was great and that is what that matters. Clearly I will be along for Part II even though I don't quite understand how there can be another 2+ hour movie needed to wrap this up.

It is still funny that 90% of the message is that propaganda is powerful and runs the show, yet, people dont get it.

you watch the og movie and you are like - dang this evil witch has been terrorizing this land for years and years…. but to match it with this, it is like just happening.

how do they explain it? that Glenda and Oz and the press secretary are soo gosh darn good at pushing false propaganda narratives that its /like/ she has been plaugeing them for years but really not. Again the message is don’t believe propaganda - like this show.

Yeah, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. Moana is breaking the old Thanksgiving holiday period record by about 100 million. Wicked is going to have a great second weekend and would have broke the record itself if not for Moana. Just a massive box office haul right now.

Drinker prefaced that review, "if you're into this sort of thing, then it is pretty good" he also said it isn't made for him and that it's not for his audience. Which is not an endorsement. I can do the same thing. The Cinematography and set designs were amazing. Ariana Grandes performance stole the movie. Uh the CGI wasn't bad. Otherwise it's a horrible movie and stay away unless you like taking it up the ass.
