So, aside from the new Wii U controller & nunchuck, are there any "must have" accessories?

I don't care about a mic or headset, as I'm not planning on doing any online gaming with this system. I'm also not going to get Super Smash Brothers, Call of Duty or Mario Cart, so I don't know if the Pro Controller is a worthwhile purchase.

What do you guys think? Just trying to plan out my purchases for today so I'm not thinking about it when I'm in the store.

The gamepad has a built in mic anyways - that's what I always used for Monter Hunter.

There's no new Wii U controller accessory - it comes with the Gamepad, but if you want to multiplayer you'll need a Wiimote with Motion+ for each person, and maybe a couple nunchuks.

A better battery for the Gamepad is nice but not sure you can buy those anywhere except online - I always keep mine in the charge cradle so it's not often I need to stop playing and charge it for a long period of time.

You need to have a wii remote to do the backwards-compatible wii virutal console stuff, and the nunchuck is also needed for some wii games (like xenoblade chronicles).

The Pro Controller is really comfortable and good quality, and it can last something like 80 hours on a charge, but it's $50.

Here's my update. I had to call 8 targets in my area before one finally had a Wii u. I just picked it up. Only a 23 mile drive from my house. Picked it up and 2 wiimotes and 2 nunchucks. Had 3 $100 gift cards. Total out of pocket was $62.84. Good deal.

I recommend a pro controller. Sometimes the gamepad just feels way too big and my hands don't feel coordinated. A pro controller is really comfy and works awesome.

Ok, but can't you use the wiimote & nunchuk for most things? Similar to the regular Wii, that is.

See, I liked Mario Galaxy because the Wii Controllers made it a fun and unique situation. Plus, you only flick your wrist a little bit. It's hardly like the old commercials where it looked like people were doing Tae-Bo to use the system.

Anyway, here's a rundown of my savings on the Wii U.

Wii U (Mario bundle) = $299.99
Wiimote U (2) = $39.99/ea
Nunchuk (2) = $19.99/ea

Total = $419.95 ($445.15 after tax)

I only paid $332.84, and this was buying it at Target.

I had a 20% off coupon for buying $75 worth of things on Black Friday.
We also bought (3) $100 target Gift Cards from ebay for $90/ea (another Black Friday deal).

$112.31 saved in total, just by leaving my house on Black Friday to get that 20% off coupon. Good shit.

What's the must have games rundown at the moment?
I took advantage of Black Friday sales and put together this collection in the last couple weeks:

Wii U:
Super Mario 3D World
Zelda Wind Waker HD
Rayman Legends
ZombiU
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Just Dance 2014

Wii:
Xenoblade Chronicles
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Okami
Metroid Trilogy

Wii U has a multiplayer Dungeons and Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara game available for online download ($15) that is supposed to be really good. And I would like to add Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn to my backwards-compatible Wii list.

I picked up a Wii U on black Friday and got the Zelda bundle at Kmart for $289 and also bought Super Mario 3D World and got Metroid Prime Trilogy from Gamestop when they had the weekend sale for $39.99. I should of got Xenoblade also but I'll find a copy later. I had the white 8 gig Wii U on launch and sold it because it was an impulse buy and there just wasn't any good games out.

I never played past the first dungeon in Wind Waker on Gamecube so the HD version was fun and new to me. I can see how some of the mechanics in the GC version would of sucked. I did enjoy the game though. Playing through Super Mario 3D World now but really want to start up Metroid Prime Trilogy. I also have Skyward Sword that I never played much past the intro on Wii.

All in all I think the Wii U will compliment the PS4 nicely while waiting for new games.

I don't know if you "need" it but you can use it for Wii U games. (Like I'm using it to play Rayman Legends)

I hear that. I really like Skyward sword. But having to sit up most of the time to keep myself from holding my wrist at an awkward position is both frustrating and annoying. I am indeed someone who likes to slouch and relax when playing video games.

I used Wii mote+nunchuk for Xenoblade but it didn't require any motion control - it was just because I liked the button layout better.

The Pro controller is amazing tho, has like 75 hours of charge time.

Question about the Wii U's graphics playing standard Wii games.. Do both systems play the original Wii games 100% identical? It really seems that my original Wii with component (HD) video looks better than the same game on Wiii U's HDMI cable. Maybe it's that Wii U is only emulating the Wii, and isn't doing true hardware processing, or maybe I'm just imagining things. What do you guys think?

For reference, I'm currently playing Mario Galaxy 2 on my Wii U.

I don't think the wii u emulates the wii, it's an actual separate OS that utilizes the same hardware. The wii u does upscale wii games to 1080p but the textures are still bad.

Do people still play Monster Hunter online on the Wii u? Never got that far on my 3DS version, been thinking about a WiiU and peeps to play MH with may just swing my decision to buy.
