So is controller the way to go? I honestly prefer mouse and keyboard but after Dragon Age it feels like all these mulitplatform games are just designed for a controller now.

I'm using keyboard and mouse just fine. Had to set the strong attack to a button on my mouse, that's the only hang up I've had, and I wouldn't have noticed it had I not looked through the controls and realized it wasn't bound initially. Could probably play the whole game without realizing there's a strong attack at all, frankly.

What generation is your video card? I think I saw something on Steam forums with someone having frequent crashes like you're experiencing. Probably that forum's moving too quick to find the thread again but at least you know you're not alone now.
GTX 970 (which came with a free copy of the game) so fairly new. I checked out the Steam forums, thanks...seems like others are having the same type of crashing behavior (tbh it's kind of a scary crash because it looks like your gpu completely shits out, monitors lose power, need to do a hard reset to get windows back, etc). Ah well, looks like I'll do some digging tomorrow while I'm at work.

That's weird cause that's what I'm running, but I have two of em in SLI and I haven't had even the slightest dip below 40 fps, no crashes, nothing.

Vorph I love how you cherry picked my post to argue you're point.

Anyway loving it so far looks beautiful. Definitely has been downgraded since original trailers still worth it. Running everything ultra at 1440p.

I5 4690k / 770 / 16 gig ram.

Everything is on ultra at 1920x1080. With hair on Geralt I get like 39-43fps stable. Hair off, that jumps into the low 50's, With shadow on high vs ultra - but everything else I sit at 57-60fps The dips are in the low 50's. I haven't overclocked my system in any way. Performance seems pretty good, and with a few toggles here and there you can claim a lot of framerate for some of the settings that cost the most resources. Game looks sweet, those stupid posts about how much foliage the game draws seemed wrong. Game is beautiful. PC Master Race - I believe will come out on top in the long run. Early impressions are positive.

The control schemes also flow seemlessly together keyboard/mouse / controller if you prefer to switch for different actions such as buying/selling inventory management.

Yeah, it *does* look nice indeed. The controls are... well, stylistically similar to the other ones. They work well enough for combat but are goddamned skittish for just walking around obstacles and the like. Combat is still actually more like Batman than Dark Souls but what the hell, it's fun!

Are older cards in SLI ok for the game? I'm getting a GTX 690 on the cheap ($200) with a Witcher 3 code because a friend just upgrade to two GTX 980s. I'm just worried that nVidia won't be bothered to implement an SLI profile.

Anyone found a way to rebind locked and movement keybinds ? Modifying the user.ini file doesn't seem to do anything.

They do, but I really wish the message telling me about it would fuck off. I have keyboard hotkeys bound to the DS4 touchpad to switch to Quen/Aard/Igni, and it's irritating in combat to have that message pop up all the time.

Random impressions:

Combat is better than Witcher 2, not that that's saying much. Having both a quickstep dodge and a roll is the best change. Strong attack is actually really useful this time; in TW2 it didn't move you forward so it was hard to hit anything with it. Now it's hooked into the fluid animations and you cover a lot of distance if you push forward on the stick. The finishers are cool, but the blood looks awful when you cut someone in half.

Signs are weird: quen is like the nerfed TW2 version but useful early on, igni is really strong so far, and I like what they did with yrden. Aard feels really weak, and Axii I've only used in conversations so far (tested out a couple quests and the Axii choice gives the most xp).

Durability is fucking annoying, like in every game that has ever implemented it. It goes down really fast on weapons, and costs 1 crown per % of durability to fix. That's an absurd amount at the start, to the point where you just throw away your weapons rather than fix them. Armor is more reasonable, I assume because I've been using quen to eat the damage on the rare occasion that I get hit. It's making me want to go with a sign-heavy build to avoid having to deal with weapons breaking all the damn time.

Yeah durability feels way off at early levels as does money generation but I'm a generous type when playing.

So far the POI's in the world have been plentiful but really weak. Some good quests so far but the ? Stuff is really weak at least in the early game. What's up with everything being in the map as well?

World is beautiful but kind of empty at least in the early part.

Combat feels much better. Igni is over powered.

Agree with everything I have read but I really dislike trying to move through doors/narrow areas, constantly hitting the walls unless I come at it straight on from a distance, going up and down curving stairs for example feels so sluggish and shitty

I hope I can move past that because right now it is really detracting from an amazing game, can't wait to gain some levels/power.

Playing on second to hardest setting, picked up sun and stars in the general tab first for the health regen out of combat during the day, this is keeping my food intake for health regen down significantly.

Also I thought strong attacks were shift click, is this not the case?

Full on ultra and ive only had one random lock up. Lvling was slack at first then i hit 5 by the time i met up with an old friend. I banged my had on the L7 wraith for an hour at L1 because i refused to not kill him the first time i ran into him. Eventually i yielded and came back at L3 to spank dat ass. Game is pretty fun, visually its good but i dont really put it above DAI at this point with all its optimizations.

Good point on movement. Subtle movement, quick changes in direction with the stick and looting kind of suck.
