Playing on the hardest difficulty. Seems okish so far, but still level 1. Not min maxing, was very inefficient with the smith and spent all my oren and then spent my one gained ability point on the axii. Maxing that first to keep it for eventual dialog options as I always pick lore/dialog options over combat skills at first.

Die to everything in 2-3 hits, but the dodge/parry mechanics seem accurate. Not fought any bosses yet though, so difficulty might come crashing down on me then. Fairly smooth on a 880GTX, everything to ultra except SSAO, shadows, foilage distance and the hair option.

FYI, the story mode levels you quickly. Not sure why the game tells you to do side quests when the main line is way faster so far.

So far absolutely loving it. I'd consider it a masterpiece if it continues as it has been for first 10 hrs or so. I've never experienced such an immersive world. The way they have crafted the world makes it genuinely feel like a place you could visit IRL. No game has ever had that effect on me. GTA for example while awesome you always know it's a virtual world. The witcher when I'm riding my horse through stunning vista's with the wind blow I can imagine that they really would look like this IRL.

By the way maybe it's my system but the load times are insanely fast for an open world game. 1-2 seconds max. Very impressive.

For fine control when trying to enter buildings and shit, just toggle walk. On PC its left ctrl.

Loving it so far, only got to play for around 4 hours which was not enough.

Load times are very short for me as well, looks crazy good and constant 60 fps

Loving it as well. 3 hours was not enough time last night. Durability - almost seems like constantly making new weps would be cheaper, agree the cost at lower levels is out of balance. Any way to reset your skill tree?!

Best change for me is the horse sprinting on rails if you're on a road. Works well so far.

Yeah I really like that feature as well. I was only able to play 2 hours last night but for the next 3 nights I will be able to log 4-5 per night. I was able to do the initial main story quest, and then found an arsonist which was a fun side distraction.

I am still completely set off by why their marketing department needed to make the game look like it did in 2013 and then downgrade when the downgrade still isn't that bad (Obviously a lot different from the 2013 shots). They could have easily just released screens that look like this and everyone would have been fine with it. Now the only thing that irks me are the viral marketers shouting down the folks upset about the 2013 shots saying, "You wouldn't be able to run it like that anyway." Bullshit, they had that running on 780 GTX's at 40 FPS without optimization in 2013. The reason they didn't continue was to cut costs by designing for the lowest common denominator. And it still looks fine so I am not sure why everyone just doesn't shut the fuck up and be honest about shit like this in the industry. Because it isn't hard, and it won't impact sales for good games.

Looking forward to when I can get off work and hop into this again.

Using a 650 atm (i know, below min specs, humor me) and the only way to get playable frames (45+) is a severe resolution downgrade. Game looks a bit clay-ish but still very playable. Game fun so far but I've just barely started :3

Oh sorry I meant input.ini.
I got ESDF with T bound to 'drink potion 2' instead of F and A bound to the ~50 different interact buttons. I edited the file I said--input.settings in the \Documents\The Witcher 3\ directory--as well as another file named input_qwerty.ini that is in the game directory (under \bin\config\r4game\legacy\base\). Working fine in game so far, haven't come across anything broken so far, but I also haven't tested it extensively because I think the M/K controls are horrible as expected anyway. No way I'll ever be able to play this game with anything but a DS4.

---------------
P.S. Anyone having framerate issues even after making sure HairWorks is off (and it should be off on anything short of a 980), the biggest offenders are shadows and foliage. Dropping shadows to high or medium is barely even noticeable in game, and the foliage is the ugliest thing about the "downgrade" so I don't miss it much by turning that down either. Also, I gained 10-15 fps by switching from the default borderless window to fullscreen. Not sure what they did wrong there; normally you only see a 3-5 fps difference there in games.

Pretty much this. Was wondering why I wasn't leveling when I realized that only the main quests provide substantial xp. Guess they don't want you out leveling the main story. Makes sense though it is an artificial constraint. And fuck you gavin, w2 had a much different leveling curve.

It's fun and good but I can't help but feel some of the praise for this has been a little over stated.

I like it. It reminds me a lot of the Arkham Batman games, but in a really big world. Haven't finished it, so can't give it a real score yet.

I'll agree that moving around the character is really wonky, and looting is a pain in the ass tho.

It's refreshing to see an open world game with a good story. Most of them I'm just over whelmed with shit that I don't even bother.

Except the open world is empty with some copy and paste POI's that are beyond repetitive. It's beautiful but wtf? Shit dragon age did a better job with their side content. They phoned that part in big time.

The story is good so far and so is the combat but there are some glaring issues.

Anyone know where you can get calcium equum in the wild, or the dancing star bomb schematic (and sulfur)? Grapeshot bomb is fucking expensive to make if I have to buy the calcium from the herbalist girl.

Playing this game with keyboard + mouse controls is really painful, you have to go through the input.ini file to change keybinds, some of them are still hardlocked and there's like 300ms keyboard input delay wherever you hit a key.

Don't think I could play with just keyboard/mouse with this game. Controller just feels right to me.

I started with mouse+keyboard and switched to PS4 controller and it's a lot better in my opinion.

Yeah, the only reason I messed with keyboard stuff at all is because my PS4 copy of the game should be arriving tomorrow (<3 Gamefly) and if I want to see them side by side I'm going to have to give the DS4 back to my console temporarily. Actually playing with kb/m is horrible; somehow it's even far worse than TW2 was. And that's with as much stuff bound to a MMO mouse as possible, rather than having to press a dozen+ keys with my left hand while moving around.
