Imagine taking classic and then redoing burning crusade without flight and not using flight again at all.

Yeah, I would honestly love that. It could also serve as a way where instead of making WoW2, they expand on this instead considering it's literally just restarting the entire game. That's ultimately what I would want but who knows what they're going to end up doing.

One of the more interesting things I think they've done without flight is things like Stormheim having grappling hooks randomly throughout the world so you could still get over obstacles or climb mountains if you knew where they were. Not sure why they don't really do more of that.

It really isn't. The flightmaster's whistle and the intelligent flightpoints (like lots of them in good locations) that Legion and BFA actually did do well at is great. Bliz even admits flight was a huge mistake.

Instead of flying, add in some faster mount tier, then redesign the world not to be catered to flying. Lets face it folks, flying was one of the first steps int he downfall of WOW, it essentially singlehandely ruined any semblence of a world and its dangers. Fast forward to today and it ends up all being a lobby game, stand in org or some other city and mash dungeon/raid finder all day.

I guess in 2005 +100% was the limit of player travel speed the internet could handle. Maybe a higher movement speed is possible now.

However, what I'd prefer is Flight masters going faster than they do. A flight from Booty bay to Eastern PL took quite some time.

I timed that once. The flight time was like 35 minutes.

I think flying was a good thing

Flying added a lot of convenience but it also made your entire world design worthless. All those hours spent making your beautiful zone maps that facilitate player interaction. Nope, fuck that, fly to the stratosphere and num lock your way from A to B ignore every single thing along the way. This isolates players significantly. Which is bad for the MM part of the MMORPG you would think is important.

I am a big proponent that the game needs to make things hard (relative here but like 5 man quests that actually take 3-5 people to do not in BFA where 5 man is just another solo quest for almost any class) to force you to interact with others. When you don't have to at all you move the game design along the path to game lobby activity center like we have now.

Even without flying you act as if we don't Num lock run from A-B in Legion and BFA. I agree with your point but it isn't just the travel, the world has to have some danger elements to it still otherwise nobody gives a fuck... but hey at least they are adding mount equipment. That's something nobody was asking for ever.

Don't get me wrong I think travel convenience is important but flying was not the right way to do it. It was detrimental to the game far, far more than more portals, flightmasters, traveling items and shit like that would be.

Portals must be removed because players were found to be using them.

Assuming you're talking about BFA portals, and I have to say I 100% agree with blizzard on that one. Except the CoT one.

Every portal that was removed has another item, or a mage, that can teleport you there except caverns of time. Whether through reps or through items or through toys. If anything it's the most RPG-driven change they've done in a long time.

I didn't like BC zones at all. Classic had more life and lore to me.

Naw the problem were the zones themselves. BC zones were just a few meh zones after coming from two continents full of lore and they had fuck all to tie you back in. Lich king I think was much better.

I think for me personally, it boils down to time. There are so many aspects of the game I enjoy (even occasionally pet battles/collecting) that the travel is just a means to an end. It is a chore, that means I can spend less time doing the things I WANT to do, doing the things I feel like I have to do (dailies, world quests, farming etc). I liked flying because it cuts out the time sync of pointless travel just to slow shit down.

I can honestly say I havent ever seen another player and felt immersed, not since EQ. Since release in wow, I hardly even pay any attention to other players except to watch for ass-hattery.
Most the rest of the players not in my guild could die off and/or quit, and the game would be exactly the same for me as it was without them. I dont play to interact with random lfr afk'er, or the schmuck hunter that runs up as I am finishing a quest mob, with his pet, taunting it, causing the mob to run all over the place... fuck those people. I play for the people in my guild, all the rest of those fuckers can gtfo. Not having flying just wastes more of the one thing I dont have enough of, time to do the things I WANT to do in game.

Also, i see WAY more of the world with flying than without it, and actually get to explore more, because travel is less a chore.

Now think back to EQ, then picture yourself flying over all the zones with a sparkle unicorn gayness. Do you think going from Qeynos to Freeport would of been nearly as memorable if you could just LOL afk fly? Would getting there quicker have made the game better for you? Chances are it wouldnt.

It is one of the reasons I started a bard to 2 box with my cleric, so I could fly over zones with my sparkly bard gayness.

Well that just boils down to bad world design then, because you should have a reason to go to xxx and yyy and check it out, see whats there, what quests are offered and what rewards you can get. And you bet your ass you will go there and spend a few days there if its designed correctly.
