Paladins were/are pretty good strat/scholo tanks on account of hitting undead really fucking hard. They take a lot of work though, and require drinks between pulls. They can also be used on 4HM if you're alpha enough, apparently.

Main problem with paladin tanking is they have no taunt whatsoever so if you can't smite the everloving shit out of some zambies then you're gonna have a bad time.

They can AOE farm amazingly well though.

Funny you say that, this Naxx semi guild/pug on Northdale is lead by a pally called "theprotdream" and he's tanking Aboms in the trash packs

That's another thing, people vastly underestimate moonkin in pvp. You laugh but when a starfire crits for 2.5k that bitch is dead

in raiding though you're just oom after 4 casts so lmao
Can you please run us through the math of max 585 dmg Starfire critting for 2500 damage?

I don't think there's enough spell power in level 60 WoW to boost Starfire all the way to that kind of damage.

in fact this list here

gives a total of +698. That's still way out of range for a 2500dmg crit.

Berserking buff in BGs like WSG will allow for those kinds of numbers. Plus double trinkets and whatever class specific CDs that boosted damage?

You could get some pretty big numbers by the end of vanilla.

Already included the Talisman of Ephereal power for +175 temporary spell damage in that number.

I didn't doubt this was real, I really just want to see the math behind it.

In regards to patching and balance, since the game was always evolving patch to patch and expac to expac; have they indicated will they follow a time line of patches for balancing and bug fixes as it originally happened?

I fear another reason it won't be a true vanilla experience is because they know what was changed and fixed down the road, but sometimes those bugs or "features" are what gave the game charm. If they fix/change things, how do they decide the intervals etc.

My favorite time in Vanilla WoW was when I was the only one on our servier with the 8 piece Netherwind set and the instacast/no cool down Pyroblast bug happened. I would feather fall off the cliff in front of the Mine in AB and rain death on everyone.

I hope they bring that bug back for old times sake.

No matter how they patch or what they do , intervals, allowing bugs, etc, it will never be a true classic server because people which play it wont be classic. But at least its as close to classic as we can get. Probably more classic than EQ ever got their classic severs.

The items and abilities are all patch 1.12. Everything will function that way from day 1. The phases are just the availability of of certain raids and instances. The only change to items will be certain drops such as titanic legging and t .05 won't be added until later patches.

I don't think you'll find anyone to agree with you. Threading the threat needle as DPS is AIDS.

It should be the tank's job to worry about threat, not the raid's.

Isn't this like, the entire challenge of being a DPS class? I always thought threat meters were cheating. (really should be called 'hate' instead of 'threat' though, as it makes more sense)

Managing threat is how DPS classes can outshine others. I recall one time for that dragon in BWL, I swapped from mage to my poorly geared (because I had retired it) rogue to help the raid. Since I was poorly geared, I just didn't bother reducing my DPS very much from spending my energy with the -threat ability. My DPS ended up at like #2 behind the top raid geared rogue using 5 man blues because I adjusted my energy budget according to the situation.

Imagine if in EQ, all the wizards could just spam their primary nuke as much as they wanted. Fuck that. I stopped raiding before 1.11 so I guess I missed this nonsense. How disappointing

All m saying is they cannot recreate the true vanilla experience 100%. And they wont. Like why would they allow certain game breaking bugs into patches which they hot fixed out days later and shit, does not make sense, lol.

Oh I gotcha. I legitmatly didn't understand what you were saying, I just kept reading the word "classic" over and over and was noding my head absently. rofl

And for me it was more about those I played with that I loved the game so much. Once expansions started comign out everything changed. Vanilla was one of the most fin gaming experiences I ever had and while a large chunk of that was the game itself, there was a lot more to it for me.

What the fuck are you on about.

Managing threat as dps where only 2 classes have actual threat dumps? If I pulled aggro as a mage, generally I died or fucked the raid because I turned the dragon and it cleaved all over the melee and breathed on the healers.

You out dps'd a bunch of people on a class that didn't have to worry about threat? "Aaaamaazin".... And what is this "adjusted my energy budget according to the situation"? This is some 65 iq level discussion with no facts here.

Dragons in BWL are a comical argument to make for any reason, didn't 3 of them drop threat randomly and just pin cushion whomever attacked next?

Ah BWL, where once you hit Chromag you found out who had AMD cards and who had NVIDIA cards.
