It really just depends what play style you like. The game functions around every class's ability to be successful at PVP and PVE. Just pick whatever you enjoy the most and collect free loot.

thanks!

what do u recommend for bumping to 80? the classes (with levels) i dont have at 80 are
priest- 41
hunter- 65
rogue- 57
paladin- 51
dk- 63

i don't know the current state for any of the classes.
You don't really say what you want out of the classes so it's hard to answer also a bunch of shit can change is 5.4 so only god knows.
Pve doesn't really matter atm, pick what you like. I think rogue would be the strongest dps out of the classes you have listed but they are all doing fine. Disc priests and holy pallies are doing great.
Pvp? Hunter is a bag of OP shit atm imo but a lot of shit is going on in 5.4 with pvp hunters so idk how they will turn out. Disc priests feel like the go to healer in pvp atm. Shadow is still going strong.

Just reactivated my account with a 10 day trial for WoW with mists of pandaria.

I am almost as newb as you can be now. Not played it in years. I have bought every expansion and end up starting a new character which I give up at level 10-25. Highest character I have ever gotten is 51 back from when the game was released, but since then, I have just bought the expansions and played for the free month that came with them and cancelled after that. Trying a new character each time.

So, starting over just to try it again. Created a monk.

Any tips on a non intrusive UI? Remember some of them were overly complicated with addons that kept breaking with every patch. Preferably one that lets me reset the tooltip to the mouse rather than the lower right hand corner (I thought this could be changed in the default UI before, but could not find it now). Also, is there a way to resize the UI to scale up the windows? The quest text and such is hard to read on a 1920*1080 resolution.

Aside from the UI, is there anything I should try? Best zones, zones to avoid? Is the monk not a fun class, and I should rather play some of the other areas? Is pet battles fun? At what level can I try that?

to add to that, Prot Paladins are the strongest tank right now and will continue to hold that position in 5.4
DKs are stupidly easy to level especially if you go as Blood, the scaling for Blood Boil is out of whack and will be your hardest hitting ability until ~lvl80 where its scaling will be more in line with the rest of your abilities
so you just go around and mob up 10+ mobs, Blood Boil them down, Death Strike when needed to heal you up and go for the next group

you could give ElvUI a shot, it is a pretty sleek UI with regular updates but I don't know if it has quest text scaling
as for the mouse tooltip stuff, try TipTac

For your monk, are you alliance or horde? One thing to keep in mind is monks level much faster than other classes because of the "catch up" mechanic they put in for that class. Starting at level 10, once per 10 levels and once per day you can teleport to the monk mountain training grounds and get a XP buff that lasts for an hour and boosts xp gain by 50% (stacks with other xp boosters, too). I personally like monk and it's my new main...I mostly play as a brewmaster tank, but they do good DPS at lower levels as well. It takes a long time for them to really flesh out, though...you're missing more of your tanking tools until much later.

As for pet battles, I think you can try them starting at level 5 or 10? Not 100% sure...the trainer is in Ogrimmar/Stormwind.

Thanks for the tips. Using the ElvUI now. Clean and has the minor UI adjustments like tooltip over the mouse already installed. Did the full default install of it, and works fine. Crashed to desktop when I hit enable on the mouse tooltip, but works when I log back in, so ok with me.

Not picked a side yet. Figure I will pick alliance as my other richest character was a paladin. Transfer some gold for bags or something. Them leveling up faster sounds ok with me and I assume there will be a quest or something that notices me of the pet battles? If not I will just run to Stormwind at level 10. Thank you.

EDIT: The game also looks a hell of a lot "crisper" than when I played it last. And it suddenly has my stats on my G18. Kinda cool.

I haven't tried with a lower level, but the trainer is on an island in the pond next to the castle, near where the Cata portals are and the portals to Pandaria. Once you train pet battling, it is account wide and applies to all your characters.

imo always pick a class that can heal as your first level 90, the queues for healers for LFR and dungeons (and presumably PVP) are close to instant vs 30+ minutes for pure DPS classes. Something like a paladin, druid, or priest is great since you can switch to tank or DPS easily. After you get bored with that and you still have some time left on your sub, you can level a pure DPS class like a lock hunter or mage and just be one of those guys who spams dps meters and makes healers cry.

The people who spam meters are almost as bad as the people who refuse to download one, yet ask what their dps was after every boss fight

Re: Lesser Charms on the cash shop

My biggest problem with this is that as it stands currently, lesser charms are very easy to get (200-300/hr in a raid group in north barrens). Once lesser charms become available on the cash shop places like this will be nerfed to oblivion.Thatis what bothers me. If you have a cash shop itwilleffect your game design decisions.
No come on, this is Blizzard we're talking about.....it's not like the RMAH affected D3 design decisions.

Having fun tanking on my paladin. Just hit WotLK stuff. Pulling half a dungeon with a disc priest friend I made. Rest of the group is pretty irrelevant.

Came back with the MoP 10 days trial and started a monk. I rather enjoy it.

Was bored with the current array of F2P games (Rift/TSW etc). I don't know why, but I've always found something more satisfying in WoW combat than in any other game. Couldn't tell you exactly what it is though.

I still think aside from the stupid every class has to have dual resources and procs design, wow has the most responsive combat. It can be quite engaging.

I agree. The fluidity that WoW has in almost anything your character does is what makes the game the 'best', imo. I cannot stand the MoP grinding with this expansion but the combat is engaging and I rarely have issues with herky-jerky motions so it makes it much more enjoyable while doing those lame dailies.

Combat is usually the reason I quit other MMOs when they come out - because they simply cannot compare to WoW's fluidity. Everything else feels clunky and very jerky compared to WoW and it's just tough to get into. I guess the closest would be GW2, but the rest of the game sucked really badly so it didn't matter.

I'm having fun playing my Warlock so far. I just instanced/PVPed my way through 80-85; it was a lot slower than if I quested, but I just couldn't do Cataclysm again, I had to skip it. I feel pretty invincible in PVP most times, I wonder if destro locks are getting nerfed? I don't keep up with that stuff, so I'm not sure but we do feel slightly OP sometimes.

I'm maxed out on 11 slots on my server, so after I get married I might make a 2nd account for my wife and move all her toons over so I can make some. I really want to try a monk, specifically tank and healer but she already has one and is taking up all my slots. I also have a 71 paladin, might try levelling him up as a tank/healer dual spec.

This game is fun in small doses, unfortunately at this point in the game you can really start to see the light at the end of the tunnel really quickly whereas in vanilla there was a lot longer of a road.

Dest feel OP in Cata because of the scaling done for MoP. Don't worry, by the time you hit 90, the nerf bat will be in full play and you'll be free food for people in PVP ;P Then again, I hate fricking PVP in this game (although Wintergrasp was awesome).

Yeah my main focus is definitely not PVP. I have no dreams of valor or visions of myself on top of a hill looking down on an array of corpses. I feel my PVP experience will be more akin to a torrent of feces out of the sphincter of Honey Boo Boo's mom after a clearing out a Taco Bell, with me being the toilet.

Unless you play blood DK. Then you feel like a raid boss at times. But yeah, my lock gets rolled in pvp now.

I was never much of a PvP dude myself, but I rather enjoyed the early days of WoW BG, especially AV back when they first came out.
