into the PvP game it was originally supposed to be
Hard faction split was done mid-development on a suggestion by Kevin Jordan. He talked with Allen Adham, who in turn convinced the rest of the development team. The devs were even suprised how many people flocked to the PvP servers.

World PvP is such a core attraction and has always been botched mostly (didn't really do BFA Warmode, was casual by then).

I want to see capturable objectives linking two cites (eg Orgrimmar and Hyjal) and there's open world PvP fighting up and down the mountain, with bonuses for minority faction (seige engine vechicles?) and rewards for capturing part of the opposing capital.

I don’t think Jordan works at Blizzard anymore he’d have probably used Legion to remove factions like any good developer should have.

Ya'll realize Furor only left Blizzard pretty recently. And they do shit way in advance and he was lead design , right? So a lot of this Sylvannas shit is his fault.

That's actually more annoying because you now have to hearth out of there.

I have legendary memories of PvP in DAOC. Specially very early on, adventuring out into the frontier and having no clue what the fuck was what. Then getting sniped by the archer guards from 500 miles away. Then learning to avoid them, but find spots to hide at and gank other factions. Then when Darkness Falls came out. Then all the PvP rank abilities.

DaoC is the only MMO that has ever made me care about, and love PvP. I did Arena pretty seriously for a small time in WoW, and of course enjoyed Tarren Mill/Southshore wars for a bit, and enjoyed a bit of original AV before it got degenerate. But I never truly loved PvP or cared for it the way DAOC made me. I went in having no idea what PvP even really was, and yet the game made me love it.

Sullon Zek in EQ was quite fun, but nothing like DAOC.

Every MMO since I could give two shits about the pvp.

I don't think this was true, since there were videos going pretty far back in development about faction capturable zones and objectives.

Shadowbane was good PvP, too, very close behind to DAoC. WoW was never a PvP game.

I think you're delusional if you think WoW was ever truly intended to be a primarily PvP game or that it ever will be.

Sylvanas' storyline was inspired by Lori's life story, change my mind.

No idea about PvP in Shadowlands, but I think PvP was very balanced and fun through WOTLK.

Anyways I've always thought Blizzard should make a DOTA type battleground. Pick a class, farm your lane, level up, get gear, etc. Would give honor like any other battleground, isn't just a bunch of decked people in a premade ass raping you over and over, and would be extremely fun if done correctly. Not sure the appropriate number of players, but say 10 people with mini raid bosses for special loot or buffs, etc.

I had heard literally nothing about WoW being a raid-based endgame until I got drafted into a Onyxia beta test. I came to WoW from DAoC, I had paid someone 50 plat from Percival + 5 plat from Mordred (a fairly ridiculous sum of ingame currency at the time) for a beta key, having gotten *super addicted* to playing a Rogue in one of the stress tests after initially panning the game when trying to play a Priest or a Paladin in earlier stress tests. I remember reading a lot about WoW PvP in the years before it came out, and almost nothing about the PvE endgame.

In the end, what we got wasn't disappointing at all. The raiding in vanilla was great, and the leveling experience on an active and relatively balanced PvP server was pretty intense. We had intense rivalries in WSG and even though the honor grind ended up being a total disappointment, I still I hit rank 13 in vanilla, and spent the majority of my between-raid time farming mats and killing horde in Felwood or WPL/EPL, or camping the chain in BRM. Not being able to reproduce any of this experience due to HORRIBLE FACTION IMBALANCE of Classic was an extreme disappointment.
