Oh Lee Shit.

Right around $170k per player. Does not seem like much in regards to a lifetime of care post career.

Edit: Wonder how this also works the retirement stuff that they bartered towards in the last CBA

Does anyone know how many years you have to be in the league to draw a lifetime pension? Couldnt find too much on it on the intarwebz.
It's valued at that, not sure that includes legal fees though. Some of that is also going to research and other things. Those who have diagnosed conditions are eligible for up to $5m. A lot of the 'me too' litigants are hopefully told to fuck off and those who actually need this get it.

Pretty big victory for the NFL. Avoided billions of liability, a painful discovery process, etc. No admission of liability, or that the injuries were caused by football.

Lawyers probably get a third of that, too. But this way they get the money quickly, instead of years down the line where they also risk coming away with less. You're still looking at 120k, which is decent money in the real world.

I want to say it's in the 4-6 years range. Not sure where I heard that, and it's just an estimate. It might've been on the 30 for 30 about players going broke.

I like how Saints, Dolphins and Steelers are contenders all of a sudden.
Saints will bounce back and the Dolphins can't be brushed aside. Even you have to admit that Tannehill isn't the shitty QB we all thought he would be. Not sure about the Steelers. The pass offense could be alright with a bolstered OL, but I'm not buying the run game. The defense could also be questionable.

They've quietly done a pretty decent job reloading on D, it will be top 5-10 as usual. Offense...I have no fuckin' idea. 2nd year under Haley, and I seriously don't know if it will work or not. They've got a couple rookie WR's that might make a difference, and if Bell gets healthy he might be effective, and if The Ben stops Romoing balls late they might be good, and if Pouncey and Decastro stay healthy they might finally have a real O-Line....

Might might might....

I think the Saints are about as much a contender as the Bears (and I mean that honestly: both could win their divisions), and the Steelers only a bit less. With two games against the Bills and Jets each, the Dolphins probably have as much or more of a chance of a wildcard* than the Bears.

*Speaking of which, I was stuck reading ESPN The Magazine at the auto shop today, and those nutcases have the Dolphins going 10-6 and flat out winning their division over the 9-7 Patriots. The old lady next to me was quite confused by the verbal "Lolwut!" that slipped out of me on reading that.

Edit: I think the NFL got a major win on the concussion mess. Less than a billion (I am guessing, after legal fees) over 20 years? A stadium or two gets its NFL-based loans delayed a year and we never even notice the difference.

i guess so. that's pretty well aligned based on travel distance and current strength-of-team.
And you still sucked at it. You realize the Colts would be a great division rival for the Bengals based on distance right? The cities are only about 100 miles apart. And you replaced the Ravens with the Redskins? Both teams play in the same area.

I bet if you paid volunteers $170K per concussion people would be lining up around the block for that shit.

Not only am I watching a 4th preseason game to see just how bad Vince Young still is, but because of a local cable carriage spat, I have to watch it in Spanish on Telemundo.

Dios mio.

Is he just as bad in Spanish as he is in English? And if they score a Touchdown does the announcement get dragged out until the commercial?
