How do you draw that conclusion?
.
Rodgers was only marginally better than Manning last year
In my retarded league the separation is a little bigger, but not nearly as much as I thought. I was thinking it was 2-3pts per game, looking now it was 1.5(25.6 vs. 24.1).

I'd rather have Brees, but I'm actually leaning Peyton now over Rodgers for the upcoming season.

I wonder, but too lazy to seek the information myself, how much of that big contract he got is guaranteed money. Ride the pine and collect big $$ and likely milk a back up job for a decade isn't a bad way to go.

I agree that for fantasy it should still be Brees and then Peyton, Rodgers, Brady are 2a, 2b and 2c. It just sounded like you were dismissing Peyton as not being in the elite group anymore and I probably misinterpreted what you said. Shit, I fully expect the guy to be top 3 in MVP voting again this season.

Id be willing to bet $100 dollars that the New Orleans Saints defense will not even manage to be mediocre. 32 teams, 16 would be mediocre so the bet would be if they manage to be ranked 16th or better. You can't win games on a consistent basis with that shit of a defense, no matter how fucking good that offense is.
What are we ranking? Yards allowed? The year the saints won the superbowl they were "ranked" something like 24th in defense, last year the falcons were "ranked" 23rd in defense, yet still managed to go 13-3. I think it was the year before last NO, GB, and NE had the 30-32nd "ranked" defenses and all had the best records in the league. All that matters is stopping your opponent when it counts and turnovers. New Orleans had like 26 interceptions alone their super bowl year.

You say they need to put up 30 pts a game as if that isn't something NO has been doing the last 5 years. Two years ago when they had a head coach they had 7,474 yards, also an nfl record, and averaged 34.2 points a game. Last year with the nfl history's worst defense they still managed nearly 6600 yards and 29 points a game, if you don't think Sean Payton is worth 1,000 yards and 5 points a game clearly you have not been following the saints last year and the 5 years prior to that.

Turnovers are football's RNG.
Indeed. The most volatile stat from season to season. You see these guys with a high number of INTs that they're not likely to reproduce. Who honestly thinks Janoris Jenkins or Charles Tillman will have close to the number of takeaways they did last year? Araysar will of course think Tillman will double that, but besides him, who thinks that?

Yeah, there's a very good chance Payton is in "FUCK THE WORLD" mode, and the Saints' goal is 50 points per game. I've had them as a wildcard or better for this year since around this time last year.
(Also, who knows how long Rodgers' OL will last.)

Note: if the Saints defense is terrible, that will lead to even more offensive points. Further note that Rob Ryan is the defensive coach, and his defenses are rarely better than mediocre!

Why isn't this in the fantasy advice thread though?

just saw Geno is getting the start for the jets. And here i thought they'd go 0-16 with Sanchez.. is it possible to do worse than 0-16? if so, that's how they're gonna do.

0-16
1st pick in the draft.

Good for you new york, I can't say you don't deserve a 1/1 pick.

Bet they will win at least 2 games and the 2 will be total out-of-the-blue upsets: Like Patriots. And then Patriots again.

I can't see that defense being better, I know most of the time people are like "OMG IT CANT BE WORSE" but there is one fucking bright spot on the entire god damn defense and it is a rookie safety but that is easily offset by the fact that their LB crew sucks (in a new 3-4 defense) and anyone who can rush the passer outside of Cameron Jordan is either on IR or PUP. That is before you take into account that Rob Ryan's defense is one of the most complicated defenses in the league (I didn't say good, I said complicated) and you just have a recipe for disaster. The entire foundation of this defense is built upon a defense that was the worst defense in the history of the NFL, who knows maybe they surprise everyone and perform respectable or even good, but how you can even be remotely positive about that defense just defies logic.

Pretty much. Any team that goes into a season with Jonathan Vilma (I know he got hurt at the end of preseason and is out for a few weeks) being their best option at linebacker is pretty fucked on the defensive side. I have no idea how they haven't managed to find even a single warm body better than him. The guy has been arguably the worst linebacker in the league for 3 straight years.

Oh, I'm not remotely positive about the defense, I'm just saying the saints and the entire league have been winning with poor defense.

But I do think Cameron Jordan's mohawk alone gets 14 sacks this season.

Part of it is that defense is ranked by yards gained, so better offenses give other teams longer fields. They also tend to be more pass oriented which eats up less clock and usually leads to more possessions.

That's why OMG crazy offenses usually have "terrible" defenses.

Better hope he pulls down 14, they might reach 20 sacks if that happens.
