Started playing Armored Core 1. Yeah, the first one (AKA the only one you can actually buy digitally for some reason). I played it through once before, in 2010, but it was with a physical CD and a lot of the music was bugged (didn't play). This time it's digital (on PS3) and all of the music is playing just fine, which is a huge improvement. I'm mainly amazed that this game isn't totally antiquated, and still plays well. Once you get used to the weird "shoulder button to look up and down" controls.

-Went for Human Plus right out of the gate. I thought Human Plus was a one-time bonus (AKA get it to trigger once and you're set) that affects all of your mobility and stats. Turns out no, that's all just urban legend. It doesn't improve your stats or mobility, at least at first. All it does is give you an improved radar, whether you have radar equipped or not. Get Human Plus 3 more times (for a total of 4) and you get the ability to fire shoulder weapons while moving, instead of having to stand still. Get it 2 more times after that (total of 6) and it makes your Booster consume energy half as fast (meaning 8 seconds of straight-up vertical boost with default booster instead of 4). The 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Human Plus instances actually do nothing.

-What I did was just load up a stage and let myself die, over and over, while I did other things. The Oil Refinery stage is perfect for this because you get bumrushed at the start. Have to die in one of the two starting levels to unlock it, then die 5-6 more times in the Oil Refinery to get enough debt for Human Plus to trigger. So I had to die around 30-35 times to get the final Human Plus upgrade. Tedious yeah, I recommend doing it while watching a movie or doing housework. I also made backup saves once it was done so I'd never have to do that again if I ever replay the game.

-I went for the laser rifle (WG-XC4) pretty much immediately. Uses Energy so there's no cost for ammo usage post-stage. Very powerful as well. Sold my guns, shoulder weapons, melee weapon, and radar to be able to afford it. Probably shouldn't have done all that, but I'll get them back. However this was a mistake, because the laser consumes energy very fast, and your starting generator is really, really bad. So I'd annihilate a couple foes, then have to hide to regenerate for 10 seconds or so before I could fire again.

-So in other words, first thing you should go for is an improved generator. I went straight for the best generator (GBG-10000), and it was such a massive improvement I could hardly believe it. That plus the laser plus Human Plus 6 makes the game infinitely more fun right out of the gate. From here on out I can just work on customization. I'm thinking I'll do treads like the HKs in Terminator, since I usually go legs with mechs.

-Really cool game, and for $6 it's worth checking out before AC6 if you have a PS3 and can still access the store (not sure about that). Pretty rough at the beginning though until you get the generator upgraded. Human Plus really isn't necessary to go through the tedium of getting, but if you do, go to Human Plus 6 to max it out. Being able to jump/fly twice as long does add quite a bit to the gameplay.

A few days ago Oroboros restreamed the last showcase where they showed multiplayer. He was one of the team leaders for the PvP fights at the event (he is mainly a Dark Souls streamer like Peeves, heavy into the PvP aspect). He loved the previous AC games, and only franchise I guess he likes better is the Dark Souls one, so a big From Software fan.

Someone in his chat asked what his thoughts were on the game overall, and he paused the stream saying he wasn't sure what he could say or not, since the embargo is still active, but said

- PC version is flawless. Better than Elden Ring even if they used the same engine. PS5 version runs at a steady 60fps, but the PC version did 120fps without dips (he has a 3090).

- Only "bad" thing he would note was that the PvP options were (currently) somewhat limited, but he expected that to become better over time.

- Rated the game 9/10. Which chat then reminded him that is also the score he gave Elden Ring, which he thought about and then said it was accurate.

- Recommended not playing older games first if you are new to the franchise, but rather start with AC6 and go backwards if you want more. It's the easiest to get into, but also noted it's still AC. It's not an easy game.

This will be my first AC game. I am excited.

I never even thought about pvp in this game. This should be pretty badass for that.

I ordered the collectors edition when they came back in stock in May. I got double charged, then the pending charges went away for a couple months. A single pending charge showed back up the first week of august when I got an order confirmation. Then the pending charge went away about a week later.

Last night I got a shipment confirmation email with tracking number… but I haven’t paid for it. Wtf is going on over there?

The world is getting dumber. My neighbor had a similar experience with Amazon but with a $5k TV, he ended up getting the TV for free. Sometimes the stupidity works out in your favor.

Normally I would avoid PVP like the plague, but that looked like it might be fun.

Still not sure if I should get this on PS5 or PC, but I'm leaning PC.

I can’t understand why anyone would want to ruin the game for themselves and go straight to some “OP” build. There is a fuck ton of combinations in these games and trying out all the shit you unlock is a blast.

Bit late now, but for anyone who bought it on xbox, the usual NZ trick works to get in early.

It wouldn't exist at the volume it does if people weren't watching it.
Yeah, I know why the videos exist. Just didn’t strike me as the kind of video this community would watch before the game even releases. Unless you’re some fgt who can’t git gud Utnayan Utnayan
