The access is for all of Alpha 2, not a particular phase. The price only varies around which phase you buy in at. That is 2+ years of seeing the game. I am a little confused at why that price plan is so extensive? If Alpha 2 were going to just be 6 months, I might could understand.

I understand not wanting too buy it. That is fine. The other plans had extra stuff but also cost extra. Not getting as much is kind of a snooze you lose proposition. I wish I could have gotten the life time subscription payment plan, but I missed that.

You talk about money grabs. If they "really" wanted to make money off this, all they have to do is once again offer the life time subscription model at a base cost of $600.00(Caveat for upgrades to existing plans) and they would make a fucking killing.

Notice they have never done this.

Servers.....gasp, cost money to upkeep and maintain. I am pretty sure a large focus around this new Alpha 2 plan revolves around the cost of the servers for 2+ years.

Also, companies are about making money.

Shitty business practices are a-ok because companies are about making money, yo!

Adulterated products by adding sawdust? Well, they're not hurting anyone and the company owner(s) need to eat too!
Making and marketing games to children then letting gambling/verbal abuse run rampant? Well the shareholders are in the business of money!

Wow you are petty.

A charge plan, that has no effect on the actual game, ruined the game for you? How exactly? It had nothing to do with game play. People paying the $120.00 do not get characters that can instantly kill any target while wearing the armor of gods. It is access only to a game that is still very unfinished.

If you do not want to pay the cost.............then don't. There are many people who will not. That is kind of the idea behind the cost. They do not need 1 million players slamming their limited amount of servers. They want testers and players who care enough to actually help them out. Will every person who plays, think that way? Probably not, but hopefully enough will.

The company is a business. Star Citizen is a prime example(Despite the conspiracy theories around money laundering) of what people will pay. If they can make money with an idea, then they would be pretty stupid not committing to the idea. The problem is not that they are doing this. The problem was coming up with a cost that was fair to those who had already paid, and creating an artificial limit to prevent way to many testers from joining, while still getting enough to stress the test. I am sure many meetings were had discussing a number that would strike the right balance.

I assure you they will get 100's if not 1000's who will pay the cost, if not right away, then come May 1st 2025. Given that there is a very real chance that the Alpha 2 phase 3 portion of the testing will last at least 1 year, I do not see how the cost is a problem. That is more than a lot of streaming services.

Unless of course you cannot afford it........
It screams of desperation for money to me. If you did not absolutely need the money you could find 100 other ways to find testers who actually give a fuck/can do the job rather then a bunch of tardos who can afford $120 dollar donation.

I for one would not pay it if it was even $29.95. Why you should have to pay to beta/alpha test a game concept (not even a game yet), to me, is stupid.

If it is about stress testing the servers (which I don’t think it is) you can do it like Monsters and Memories (not saying they are perfect). Have stress test weekends that cost nothing.

And for the record I can afford it by working about an hour overtime. It’s the priciple of the thing as to why I will not.

I get it, you probably bought one of their cosmetic packages for omega 1 super access and would toss yourself off a bridge if they handed out free stress testing weekends of alpha to plebs who refused to pay so obviously you are 100% against it.

Do you get it though? Let me help,

Remember/know what happens in a lot of high profile alpha/beta tests? Accounts and keys get sold around on the blackmarket because the masses want access to it. So what is the smart move here? Skip the middle man and provide it directly to people instead, just like gold selling!! Holy shit man. What a wild move that would be.

Why would you not do this? Curious.

When the game releases no one will give a shit about how they charged for early access or how long it took to come out, or any of the other meaningless shit one might think of. Is the game good and fun to play, then sign me up. Does it suck...to the void you go. That's all that matters in the end.

It's crazy how I've dumped on people for buying shitty AAA games for $70 when you can tell they're going to be shit.

This is almost double that and it's to test the game, and people are absolutely fine with it.

Last I checked, children do not have money and the ability to buy things for themselves. Why blame shitty parents who just give their kids anything they want, though, when you can blame the evil marketers?

I know exactly what happens, and any studio worth its weight in salt would ban those accounts that were sold if they found out about it. Happened a lot with the Warhammer MMO and others

Well,

It looks like once again, they listened. That is a very large reason as to why I support this game and hope they can get it right. They changed the sale.

that is at least better. Paying for just for alpha bleh. Paying for beta , while still kind of wonky, isnt that rare these days and then providing other things to actually make it worth it. So its essentially 70 dollars for alpha, 2 phases of beta. Still a bitch much for just pure testing, but better then what they did at first. Should include a bit more imo. $30 of goodies and then 70 for the 3 testing? Go with 25 for all 3 testing, then a good 50-70 worth of goods like shown, with a little room for profit. And by all means charge more to the impatient that want in first.

I am sure things like that asmon video do more to alter their minds then anything else.

I'm not sure if Sharif is a big fan of Asmon or not, but I know he's well aware of his audience. As they are almost a 1 for 1 MMO player type of person. So it would make sense that he pays attention to what he's saying at least a little bit. But the changes are irrelevant as random people that would have never bought it in the first place have already hyperventilated and called the game vaporware and anyone that doesnt agree with them is everything bad under the Sun.

I dont even disagree that we shouldnt have to pay to test a game. But it is what it is because FOMO is a bitch for most people. They said they went from 30,000 people that purchased at 250+ to very quickly, a 100,000 people paying 250+ when they announced they were cutting off those packages. I hope that 30 million+, and whatever they rake in from this "limited offer" will push them through whatever milestones they're wanting. The longer the game can stay away from a big Publisher, the better off I think it will be.

Only weird thing to me is if you're going to spend $100, why the fuck would you not spend an extra $20 to get in 7 months earlier? I fully get the whole principle of feeling weird having to pay to access an alpha and play test a game for the company, and the simple fact it's roughly double what we'd all want to pay for even a AAA console game release currently...but there's also part of me that looks at $120 as whatever. Blow more at the casino or a night at the bar sometimes out with friends.

If people actually want to spend that money to try this out even in alpha form (while getting access to later stuff with some perks on potential release), let 'em. 98% sure I won't spend that much to do so, but if I was invested in the game, I could probably play it enough to feel like the money spent was worth it.

Maybe that's how bad it is out there that we're willing to except bad business practices in the hopes of getting a decent new game. And I say that as someone who still enjoys playing FFXIV casually while maintaining a sub most of the time.

In for fun, in for one. Since EQ brand will never be a thing again, this is the last hope on the horizon.

Been playing MMOs since EQ1. If there is one thing I know, no one is there to test the game, they are all there to get advanced knowledge of the game and exploit early and often to have a leg up on release.
