I've lost so much interest just due to this server squish. Spent 2 hours trying to find a decent camp but its so fuckin crowded that this now feels like work instead of play and i can take a pass on that shit. About to run my happy ass to titan ring and watch a movie while swinging my sword at rando minos during the event.

NGL the more I game the more completing them and hitting the right stats/items feels like a chore. Could be decades of wearing it out and chasing the dragon.

We've done this 100+ times now. It was great back in the day but grinding for gear/loot in another game with open world PvP doesn't sound exciting. Lots of people chase that Eve Online/Guild wars "good fights' but fuck if I have ever really seen it other than in a couple of games built specifically to that purpose, almost to the exclusion of anything else: Ratting in Eve was fun but it was almost always in service of the larger Corp wars in some way shape or form.

Long named mob respawns
Shit gear outside camps and said named mobs
Lack of mob availability
Forced to sit in a boring camp for hours

You just described EQ1 lol

I'm enjoying it. In a small guild, part of an alliance that controls a node on Lyneth. I bought into the alpha several weeks ago but only had gotten to lvl 7 before the wipe. Just wanted to get an initial feel and find a guild going into this phase.

I'm enjoying the grind, expected alpha jank aside. It's a social sandbox MMO and the drama is plentiful now that there's been an initial round of elections and people with conflicting plans based on the last testing phase conflict with those who had different experiences on other servers.

Really looking forward to how the game develops as the map expand.

I signed up for an Alpha key but probably shouldn't have; I don't want to Eve or Archage this at this point. I am kind of over just grinding mobs for levels on characters that are going to be wiped. I love the idea of the game and still will happily support it but I am not pouring hundreds of hours into a character this early on. That may damage my ability to play the beta or launch, which I really want to do. I don't have a RIL group playing, the solo gameplay sucks, I don't want to put the effort in to play the meta/parasocial guild game again/yet, it makes my fans go bezerk on my 7900xtx, I am just not that into it at this time.

Hey AOC is going to be another BDO in the end. The difference is Steven doesn't allow third party apps in the game. Ge was banned in AA for RMT. They are setting up a third party site on paper to police and sue the unofficial gold farmers om court. SOE did this shit in 2006 when IGE broke up with Live Gamer.

Without fast Travel people will quit the game because the map is too big.

That's what they out here sayin'.

Some games are amazing the first time through, others are meh but have staying power.

For whatever reason you'd like to pin it on, EQ has staying power for the after work bro sesh game with occasional spurts of try harding. Archeage... I was very late to the party and it looked like a good game USED TO BE THERE. But I seriously doubt its staying power.

Don’t get me wrong, this IS my ideal game. However my current issue was mainly them reducing servers and forcing overpopulation. Then the loot is mediocre at best in terms of drop rates. Rates being forced on a 1hr timer means you just sit and wait. When you hit 25 and all mobs become chores and you only wait on the one guy who ends up dropping a trade skill item it’s like working for nothing.

Yeah it’s reminiscent of EQ in some ways but EQ camps spawned bosses on random chance not just wait an hour for crap.

Also I mailed Bard in previous phase and it’s uninspiring. Considering Vanguard Bard and EQ2 bard, this is the worse iteration of the class I’ve played. Nothing about it really stands out and granted you can do a bit of everything it’s kinda a snooze. I am currently maining Tank and just yanking mobs left and right is more fun from 1 skill than the entirety of the bard skill set. Hopefully they make bard fun before release as I’d either be that or a rogue. Being good at something you find kinda boring doesn’t make it any less boring. However the class will be in high demand just as pure support.

At this point I think they want players to stop playing. That is the only reason, besides cost, that I can have for such an obvious mass over population issue. I log on sometimes. I even got a group today only to have it break up because the tank had died to much and had to go repair. It was not that large an issue as the group was already having a difficult time finding mobs to pull, without pulling the over powered Pyro casters.

It is becoming painfully obvious that they currently lack the skilled developers required to fix issues in a timely manner. There are still many of the same bugs that existed in the last phase but now they have introduced new ones on stuff that had already worked. Its a pretty game but if the game is not working right(The Declare War Dupe bug), the pretty does not matter. I went back to an area that was a hole in the world. The hole is still there. I am wondering if I can find a Dupe bug that revolves around trading while falling below the world just as you reach the point where it ports you to bind. You would have to time it of course...

Regrettably I am becoming less and less impressed and now think this game will be in Alpha for 3-4 years unless they hire a lot more programmers who are not involved with "pretty".

I don't think they want people to stop playing. I think they want to figure out how to handle massive server loads so that Raids/PvP can be epic.

People pay three times the cost of a regular game to be in an Alpha test then complain about Alpha test problems. Just Autists Things.

Spoiler: they won't figure it out

No one has figured it out, not really. Eve came sorta close with time-dilation, but it still sucks shit.

New World had infinite Amazon dollars and they literally had to disable spells to keep the servers from lagging out and dying during larger PVP clashes.

I'm convinced it's not a problem that can actually be solved given our current understanding and implementation of network and packet transmission, and anyone trying to design a game with a player scale larger what we know already works is lying or delusional.

It’s easier with tab target than action combat I imagine since the server needs to keep track of less shit, but at a certain point you can only send so much data back and forth before you hit bottlenecking

And yet every --serious-- attempt can only get us closer, so I'm all for it.

Is that true though? FPS games don't seem to have this issue. Although maybe they get around it by having the players spread out more and so certain chunks don't get all packets sent?

Someone mentioned there being another gold dupe, which i hope isnt the case since it would push them closer to considering another wipe in the future.

FPS games aren't on the same scale though. Putting 20 players in a CoD match with a map that is basically a 25x25 box is a far sight different calculation than trying to have 100+ players (or way more in some instances) in an open/persistent world all trying to fuck each other up, while also having the rest of the game world still run and functional for everyone else at the same time.

Even Battlefield tried to boast their huge 250 player maps or whatever, but none of that ever materialized. It shrank and shrank until it was 64 players by launch finally, with some shitty weird bot modes that had more 'players', because again even a giant like EA wasn't able to do it.

Shadowbane I was in a 500 person war - people got 1 frame per minute or crashed

Archeage used to have some pretty big wars/PvP conflicts, although render distance became an issue
