Yea many games have tried warfare at scale and none of them were able to do it. I recall things at least working properly in Dark Age of Camelot back in the day? But I also don't think the scale was much larger than maybe like 30v30 skirmishes, certainly nothing in the hundreds.

Eve is the only one still going that can accommodate that kind of player escalation, but even though it 'works' it's pretty awful to participate in as you wait for hours for 30 minutes worth of a fight to calculate in-game.

The way they've described it and showed it in practice seems to work on the test bench of earlier Alpha's. I have no idea why it wouldnt work the same way here, other than the graphical changes/demands placed on the server by what is currently being processed within the player characters sphere of influence. So basically, everything, NPC's and PC's alike, can be scaled down to a 10 meter circumference around the player for example. Anything outside of the PC's sphere of influence then loses the majority of the data that is being fed to the player or processed from the NPC's and PC's within that 10 meter circumference.

I can think of a laundry list of problems Eve has when it comes to introducing this same type of architecture. But with much slower moving characters, and projectiles that typically wont interact with anything outside of their sphere of influence... I dont see any problems with the theoretical structure they've presented. But really, its whatever. Either they make it work or they wont.

I think Steven's response sucks; he is slagging Narc, saying that they haven't been interacting with him for a year because he was "negative" or some such. That clip you posted is Steven blasting Narc for his saying he feels like they sold something they didn't have anything like that to close to ready to deliver. Intrepid has been big on their "open development" and Narc indicated that he didn't feel they accurately represented the current state of the game.

It was my initial impression that the game was in a very different state than what I expected, and I posted as such in this thread. Not that it wasn't an Alpha but holy shit it was different from the showcases.

This is bullshit. Narc COMPLETELY lied about the state of the desert in his video and has lied repeatedly about the state of the game. He's a rage-bait faggot that is just trying to squeeze any life his channel has left out of a game still in development and that is AT LEAST two-three years from release. Fuck him.

I just stopped playing. The state of the game for me can be best described as ...boring. It has a ....long... way to go. Pretty is nice, but I have begun to think that the actual programmers might be lacking a bit in numbers. Many of the bugs that existed in phase 1 still exist in phase 2. Its like watching a snowball roll down a hill where more and more stuff adds up. The company needs more people to get on top of all of the bugs.

I remember Hex, Shards of Fate. The game looked fun and had good graphics for its time. The problem everyone began to notice was the lack of bug fixes within the game in a timely fashion. Bugs would exist for months on certain cards that never got fixed. The game eventually shut down due to a lack of popularity and competence to produce new material and fix bugs.

Ashes of Creation is in Alpha. This is a true statement. The problem is that the company chose to open the Alpha at a particular moment. This means that the public can now see just how slow the process appears to be. Its not that the game is in Alpha, that is the concern. It is the rate at which stuff is being dealt with, that is the concern. The pace is taking way to long, and people know that development costs money. I get that Steve has money but I am beginning to have doubts about just how long he can keep this going. Again, this is not reflective of the fact that the game is in Alpha. This is reflective of how long it is taking for bugs to be dealt with and content to be added. Can this company truly maintain this kind of pace for what I think will be three years. Some things will have to change.

Narc very well might be a rage-baiter , but he said nothing incorrect about AOC. He is 100% correct in the fact what was passed off as actual developed content, was nothing but fake news in all of Intrepid studios videos to drum up excitement to sell more pre-release keys.And it turned out none of that shit actually exists in the game, years later. It is bait-and-switch shit, and the fact Steven got so butt-hurt about it further proves he hit the nail on the head. His response video didn't disprove any of the allegations Narc made, he didn't show any of the assets which Narc said didn't exist yet, and locking down Reddit and any negative commentary is a bitch move. Show more stock UE5 assets and pretend that development is happening.

I'm already on record stating I think this game will fail based purely on the history of open world PvP / territory control type MMOs in the past. History is not on this game's side at all. However, to say that Narc didn't lie about that state of the game is factually incorrect and easily disprovable by anyone that is able to log into the game. Narc is a rage-baiting faggot that is fishing for views. Fuck him.

I do have to say that listening to Steven's reaction to Narc was a bit of a let down. He is CEO of a company. Why react like that? People say shit all the time on the internet. People lie to get clicks all the time on the internet. His reaction is saying a lot more than just a response to Narc. That was the response of a person under a lot of stress. That is concerning.

Also, he has touted that he is building this game for a particular group of people. He does not care if the game is not the next Blizzard. If he did not care, why does he care? I get the feeling his accountant has pointed out to him that the game needs to have more success than just his private play ground.

Don’t care for Steven nor any streamer, but everything is behind. The desert has more lush trees than cactus, think I ran around and found the one. I also now have no clue why they did a wipe as nothing but the forge was added to the game. Okay, nothing worth a shit was done for us to have to level again except the bad decision to merge servers.

Aside from the trigger happy grenadier who kept flash banging us all phase 1, nothing seems changed. The leveling experience is just worse to the extent that I won’t be back till retail on the next wipe.

Semi-annual reminder that every 1st-generation MMORPG was developed and released in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost by a fraction of the staff as any current production that struggles to provide even a fraction of the same gameplay.

Probably the best MMO since classic era's of EQ / DAOC / WoW from a purely PVE perspective. Its almost like what would have happened if WoW decided to be more like EQ, rather than EQ trying to be more like WoW. If anyone would like to see in game streaming, I would be more than happy to invite to discord and stream live gameplay. I plan on splitting my time playing pantheon 2-3 days a week and ashes 4-5 days a week - as well as hop on any Monsters and Memories open tests as they come - however ashes in my opinion is far superior right now. I've played all 3 quite a bit, having played pantheon for about 2 years now and actually boxed 2 accounts (pop was low a year ago) and getting my goblin necromancer to lvl 18 on the last full weekend M and M playtest.

If anyone has any ashes questions or wants to see gameplay feel free to ask. Have got far enough along in professions to have crafted a few legendary items, have a freehold, and explored most the content currently available etc.

Head dev goes around the world interacting with players, answering questions live and summoning assets (items / mounts) people are asking to see that aren’t put in game yet. Also heavy RP marries a couple for 20min.

If this is what you consider HYPE, I don’t want to know what you do for fun.
