Christian Bale is best in movies where he plays an entertaining lunatic. Batman is a depressing lunatic.

All true fans know the ultimate portrayal of The Batman is by Robert Lowry in the1949 series "Batman and Robin":

Also, theTim Burton Superman movie never happened, so we missed out on 20 years of Nick Cage as Superman. Sad times.

i just dont understand why affleck? its such a random choice. you would expect JGL, Gerard Butler, Christian Bale, Karl Urban, Jason Statham or Josh Brolin as likely possibles for the role in the new film. i would rather see Idris Elba(sp) as The Batman.

Rofl, those names are even more random then Affleck. I mean Gerard Butler? The second he opens his mouth as batman 17 people will go "oh hey Bruce, didn't recognise you. Wtf is up with the crazy suit you scottish bastard?" That and the beard would look just silly poking through the mask.

Here's some other names! Samuel L Jackson, hamburglar, julia Roberts!

I can only understand JGL in your list. But he is too young. Brolin is too old, statham.....well he is ok in straight up action movies, but no.

I will wait and see how Affleck will do. I can recall heated debates about a certain guy playing the joker...who ended up being absolutely fantastic.

i picked those actors because they all have credibility as physical actors who exude on screen presence. well maybe not JGL so much , but he is a more logical runnerup to Batman considering how the last film ended. i also notice you had no problems with Urban or Elba

I hope more people mention that Ledger was great as the Joker despite people doubting the casting. That would add a new layer to this conversation that we've really been lacking thus far.

Don't get me started on Elba, i remember people throwing a fit when he became Heimdall. I also remember halle berry being catwoman causing an outrage. The next batman will have little to nothing to do with the nolan batman films, so JGL is out.

I like Urban as an actor, he played a magnificent Dredd, he would be an ok batman, but i can't see him play a good Bruce Wayne. And you need an actor to be able to play both, something Bale failed to do as well. He was a good wayne but his batman was.....meh, and got worse every movie.

Affleck's Daredevil's biggest problem was the script. But he got all the flack for it, he wasn't a stellar daredevil, but that was definitely not the movie's biggest problem.

I will wait and see, Affleck has become better, now that he has a lower profile. He was really good in Hollywoodland, Argo and smokin' Aces. And as i said, Heath Ledger had quite a few klunkers behind his name when he got cast as the joker...and he blew us all away with his performance. Problem is, sometimes an actor gets stuck in a type, look at Depp, he can be so much better, if only they gave him more challenging roles.

I would like to see 1 thing, let Adam West be Alfred. He has the age, he has that calm voice, and well, it would be fucking awesome.

As someone who hated Christian Bale's depiction of Batman, I think Affleck will nail the role. Will he playing Batman in the bona fide reboot?

Christian Bale was right between Val Kilmer and George Clooney in terms of terrible Batman portrayals. He was a great Bruce Wayne because he just played Patrick Bateman three more times. In the Batsuit? Stupid this is what a tough guy should sound like voice, smooshed face fat, and no fighting skills at all. Not a single one of you should be talking shit about Afflek as Batman until you see The Town. He nails haunted bad motherfucker pretty well. He is going to need to go see Hugh Jackman's roid dealer to bulk up though.

There's been a lot of comments about Affleck not having the physical presence to play Batman whilst people forget that this was how Bale looked like in the film 'The Machinist' prior to filming 'Batman Begins'

i bet affleck ends up not being batman due to the backlash. most likely was a publicity stunt to create buzz for when they release the real name of the actor playing batman.
