You guys are forgetting that this version is mostly a mosh up of Kingdom Come and DKR Batman, who was considerably more violent and fascist than the main continuity versions.

If that were the case, you'd think they'd explain that in their almost three hour movie that didn't explain much.

Batman being in nofucksgiven mode is the least of this movies problems. I may be a bit biased though as Thomas Wayne Batman is best Batman.

the best superman stories are the ones that test the no-win scenario. you think there's no way he's going to solve the problem and still have him be the boy scout, then at the last minute he pulls it off. the best batman stories are the one that seriously make you doubt his sanity. he's saying and doing things that make even his staunchest allies think he's gone too far. then, at the last minute he pulls off a win while still being clearly on the good side.
This. Superman vs The Elite kinda dragged on a bit too long, but when they finally moved into the final act, a Superman who had finally cracked and just said fuck em all was terrifying. He taught a really valuable lesson to the people of Earth. I also liked the animated Doomsday movie, because it highlighted the main aspect of Superman that redeems him for being such an obnoxiously powerful character. Superman doesn't hesitate for even a second to rush into danger, whether it's actually dangerous to him or not. Sure, the vast majority of the time nothing is really capable of hurting him, but if he's facing an equal or superior foe it doesn't change his response one bit. Doomsday is beating Superman like a fucking ragdoll, and Superman never stops going back at him.

Incidentally, the scene with Superman and Doomsday brawling in midair while trailing flames from atmospheric re-entry is epic, and one of my favorite scenes in DC animation. I felt like they sorta recreated that scene a bit with Zod and Superman in Man of Steel.

Damn you are an idiot.

I like how you gave up comparing the Marvel Movies with their simple stories, and now all the sudden are shifting to other DC movies now. You litteraly listed off 3 different universes with completely different versions of the characters. The troll seems to be you

Anyway for True DC fans, unlike this nerd above, You will recognize the General from a certain army

Thats Darkseids father correct?

I agree 100%. I was going to say almost exactly the same thing.

The way to make Superman interesting is to nerf him. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, he could barely lift 100 tons, couldn't fly through time, was only mostly invulnerable, and could only fly in space as long as he could hold his breath. He became more interesting when he started losing fights without the villain using Kryptonite, magic or telepathy. He does better when he's nerfed down say, Thor's level (base level, not all of that rune power or Odin power crap).

Unfortunately, they upped his power level again, and he's now able to move planets once more. And Batman outsells Superman 3:1 in comics.
Have to agree with this--plenty of characters in the Marvel movies are nerfed. Thor, Hulk, even Iron Man; depending on which era in their comic history you are comparing them to, they are much, much weaker.

Superman being able to fly and struggling to lift up a truck, being able to survive a building collapse with a bloody nose? Would show he was depowered, but it would still show he is way ahead of 'mortal men'. There is no need to make heroes as powerful as they are in their comic book version. All they need is their actual powers, not the levels of those powers.

And this is where Snyder fucks up, he's like a technical nerd, and not a literary nerd. He cares less about the source material's character development and stories and more about technical specifications of the characters; it's like the min/maxer version of a comic nerd. It should be the opposite, respect the source material, make sure the characters look and feel the same--but the full scope of their power? No. You can explain it tons of different ways in your universe, or you don't have to explain it at all, just show it; audiences understand this is a unique universe.

Man of Steel though, failed in this, it made superman ridiculous again. And where do you go from there? He's just a silly character.

a lot of truth in this. as poor of a movie as superman returns was, the power level was much more in check. now, maybe i'm just misremembering but the plane crash wasn't just a "swoop in and pick it up" type of thing and when superman lifted the giant mountain of earth, it was clear that this was a colossal amount of effort on his part. cut to BvS and superman is just casually strolling through a blizzard with a giant tanker in tow. i don't even remember WHY he was dragging that thing, other than to show how little effort he was putting into it?

I think he's right though. My assumption is Goyer only read Death In the Family, The Kiling Joke and Dark Knight Returns and skipped everything else hence the dead Robin costume. Snyder only looks at pictures of things. I've given it a few days and while I think killing on the parts of our two mains was the creative team being lazy. I can by Supes killing Zod because its the only option left and more or less the same with Bats, they wouldn't kill without it being the absolute last thing and certainly wouldn't kill the fodder.

Its obvious they never read Kingdom Come

I keep seeing people say "Batman" in this thread and you guys must mean "the bat from Gotham".

I think they called him Batman once in the movie. I swear this looked like a cheap knockoff where they got some of the rights like the ability to use the name Superman and some of the logos. They ran out of budget though for the rest.

For Wonder Woman to show up and not once did she introduce herself and only the stewardess spoke used her last name. Nobody called her Diana or WW. She had what? Five lines maybe? Her power levels were off the chart. Just ridiculous.

We start off with 30 minutes of back flash origin story of "the bat from Gotham" but Superman everyone must have seen the previous movie but none of the Nolan Batman movies so he didn't get any back story.

I won't even go into that whole bullshit dreaming of Affleck and the guy talking to him in that one because I am too annoyed to have to toss it in spoilers.

Terrible movie and that isn't even about the comic book aspect. The movie itself was just poorly done. Alfred looked the same age despite Batman being in his 40's during the story, maybe he looked 10 years older. Yes I know that Jeremy Irons is 24 years older than Affleck. That's the issue, talk about shit casting. Was Alfred a 33 year old butler when "the bat from Gotham" saw his parents killed?

WW was mega powered. I don't know her comic power level of power but wow...She seemed to kick more butt then superman and not even flinch at the hits....

I question them reading The Dark Knight Returns as well. Even with as grizzled and cynical as Frank Miller made Batman, he repeatedly chooses non-lethal ways of taking down enemies even when lethal means are readily available. The only times I can find that he'sexplicitlyshown killing (if you accept his tank is really using rubber bullets) are to save a child being held hostage by gunpoint and to escape the police (and even that one could be seen as a "oh, they're just sleeping" thing since it's never said whether or not the police die). Hell, one of the major plot points of the story is Joker killing himself to trigger a manhunt because Batman refuses ("I hear voices, voices calling me a killer. I wish I were.").
