Anyone on my question from my last post?

Was it just me, or was Dewitt a little too carefree about jumping through the tears at the beginning. First when Chen was dead and again when they need to move chen's tools out of the police headquarters. The second time seems more out of place. It's like "turns out machines used to make weapons are indeed large. Well f it, lets just jump to an alternate reality instead of figuring out how to move them." Then after that tear the vox have risen, etc and Dewitt is like "let's get back to Fitzroy so we can get our ship back". I mean for all he knows Fitzroy could have died in the uprising and not even exist in this reality. Or, why would Dewitt expect Fitzroy to even know or remember a deal they made 2 realities ago?
Doesn't he very briefly go like "I'm not sure this is a good idea" or "Are you sure this is okay?" the first couple times, but they don't really go into the concerns of it very much. That part of the plot is done a little loosely.

On the Siren she's weak to fire - devils fire then shotgun twice is usually enough to knock her out of a reds animation or attack (on 1999 - maybe one on lesser modes) - and she can't rezz anyone that doesn't leave a body, knocking off ledges, burning or electrocuting all prevent her rerezzing a body. (Although there's so many its impractical IMO)

Yea, the ghost fights, specifically the first one was absurd. It made me have to change from Hard down to Medium just for that fight. I'm sure there's some gear/vigor combo that cheeses the fight but I could simply not keep up with keeping enough ghosts down to stay alive while damaging lady ghost enough.
yeah, ghost in bank was the hardest fight for me. I didn't have to lower difficulty but I ended up semi-cheesing it by standing in the vault itself and just sniping her from a distance

Admittedly I played on Normal, but I found those ghost fights the easiest "boss" fights in the game, so the strategy will probably work well on higher difficulties too.

For the stuff she spawns, I used my go-to combo for any swarm of mobs: Upgraded Crows to stun them all, Carbine one or two in the head to create crow traps, which will cascade and pretty much kill everything small.
For the ghost herself, RPG to the face. Long range and does like 2500 damage. I think she died in 5 hits.

You can unlock 1999 mode without beating it, but if you're looking for a more casual experience, I don't suggest it. AFAIK the actual difficulty of NPCs doesn't change from hard (hp/damage) but the availability of resources and cost of death does change. This adds a layer of frustration, not fun, for people who would otherwise rather go through the game only visiting the optimal path.
Weird. I tried moving to the hardest difficulty, and the only difficulty I see are Easy, Moderate, and Hard. Playing on hard isn't too difficult, lol. Just dying a lot from falling to my death. :<

You have to beat the game first or put in the konami code to unlock 1999 mode... up up down down left right left right then whatever else depending on your system.

Elerion: I don't think rockets do that much damage on hard... and if you don't have an RPG in the bank when the fight starts, I don't think there is one available on the ground anywhere but I might have just missed it.

Well, I carried an RPG as my secondary weapon for most of the game to deal with high HP enemies. The carbine took care of everything else without ammo issues, since almost everything gets one-shot by headshots. For fast/close enemies, stun things with your Vigor of choice to make it easier.

I realize that will probably be an issue on 1999, especially if you want the no purchases achievement. Probably works on hard, though.

EDIT: I just realized my gear setup may have been what made this possible. I had a +50% crit damage item and a couple of ammo conservation items. My Carbine and RPG were also fully upgraded.

Bank fight was pretty hectic, because i had only sniper and machine gun with me, ended up sprinting around the room and emptying whatever weapon I could find into her when I stunned her wit shock. Still, didn't die :p

You can kill her with the Heater under the stairs and the volley gun by the graves. If you need, get the crank gun under the picture. Use chain bucking bronco to keep enemies in the air and don't waste ammo on them. Only use your ammo on her, if enemies come for you, bucking bronco them. You will have her dead or low by the chain gun depending on your upgrades. From there, you can cheese with a burst gun at the beginning or any guns you brought with you (I had a chain gun). Easily the hardest fight in the game on 1999 mode. If I had to do it again I would've brought a rocket launcher with me and a sniper.

Well as I said I didn't like the fight because for me the best strategy was brute forcing it, by basically spamming fireballs(which tend to also kill all her adds, had the perk where mobs do shock dmg around them when they die for more aoe) and emptying all my sniper rounds in her as fast as possible. It worked well but it's pretty dumb that at first I was trying to CC/control her adds while killing her slowly but she had way too much hp and I ran out of salts way before she died then it was just a slow death for me cause I would swap to all the weapons on the ground trying to finish her but she's invariably kill me at some point then regen a ton of health. Don't know really disliked the design of the fight. Maybe if I had different perks I don't know, it seems they're random so maybe I just didn't get good ones for that fight.

Anyway wasn't too hard or anything, just shitty design imo.

I actually thought it was one of the better designs if you didn't keep up with adds they got out of control and made the fight significantly harder. I used upgraded charge + upgraded shotgun with fire damage aoe melee gear. Would max charge her when she went to summon, which would stop the summon and stun her and then blast her in the face with the shotgun from close range. Did this like 8 times and she died. Whenever she did get some adds up the fire damage brought them low enough where I could pick them off with the carbine before charging.

Thinking about this got me to realize how my random gear drops affected the strategy I adopted in the game. I got a +50% crit item and an "aoe shock on overkill" item early on, which made head shots sexy. That lead me to using accurate weapons (Carbine, Pistol) and a stun Vigor (Crows). Then I got a piece that gave a free reload 40% of the time, so I dumped the Pistol and could stick exclusively to the Carbine, carrying the RPG solely for oh shit moments and bosses. The design worked out really nicely for me.

However, from what I saw drop, there weren't really a large enough variety of items to make the same evolution happen for other setups. Maybe it was just me, but I got a ton of Skyline gear and melee gear that really didn't seem viable to build a spec around. The melee stuff could have worked in a charge/melee setup I guess, but that has other issues mentioned above.

A greater variety of gear would probably be a boon for repeat playthroughs. Especially if you could bring in gear from a previous playthrough.

The charge/melee build I played felt a lot like the class in ME3 that used the same setup. Was really fun.

I also ended up with a lot of skyline gear which was fun to switch into (if I remembered) for fights involving skylines but otherwise was essentially useless.

I think the first four pieces of gear I got for each slot was what I used almost the entire game until near the end when I got one or two pieces that were improvements.

So for someone who doesn't play a lot of FPS but loves games like Half Life for the story, this is a must buy?

I had pretty much the same. I think I only ever switched one item from what I initially found for each slot and that's only because I found I wasn't using melee as much later in the game.

If you get round to doing the 1999 mode + no vending machine achievement, it's obvious you will have to tailor yourself for each section. The amount of gear you get should enable you to be strong for that part (melee mode, skyline fighting, salt+hp stacking, vigor chains, etc). When ammo is non existent in that mode you will have to use combinations smartly, like upgrade temporary invulnerability and use it to melee people, vigor their face off and plenty of running away.
