I don't know... maybe it's because I'm an English teacher, maybe it's because I've had to become communicatively capable in four languages, maybe it's just because I understand the concept of context, but I don't have a problem with the term "privilege". To me, it basically means "bonus". It's like, regardless of any decision you've made or action you've taken up to this point, here's something positive that can help you. It's not a cure-all. it's not a "get out of jail free" card (even though it may literally have been used to get out of jail free), it's not a "fix anything that may be wrong in your life" solution. It's a bonus that can range from small to big, but is a given if you happen to qualify.

Maybe I happen to interpret certain concepts differently than most, maybe some people just need to be far less defensive about word choice... I don't know. All I know is... if that previously shared photo was actually of Trollface's sister, then I want first crack at that. I don't care how we decide... arm wrestling, VS Tetris, death battle... that is some sweet hotness.

Unless she's 12 or something, in which case I withdraw everything I just said.

If she was white she wouldn't have those shoplifting charges, or spent time in jail for them. My cousin has been busted 4 times for shoplifting and 6+ times for drug possession and hasn't spent a single day in jail, only judge ordered 'therapy' that she doesn't ever finish. Why? Because she's tall white and blonde.

We liberated south east Asia from the Japanese. We could have just let the Japs keep skullraping Filipinos and Malaysians and brokered a peace. (As an aside, we killed a lot of Filipinos of our own in the early 20th century, we invented the M1911 pistol just for the purpose of killing them because apparently regular guns don't kill Filipinos, look it up.)

We designed and implemented a post-WW2 world order that's lasted and created the greatest peace in the history of man.

We've invented a lot of shit. America as a beacon of intellectual freedom has put the world at least 50 years ahead technologically than if we weren't around, probably closer to 100. But many, if not the majority, of those things were invented by immigrants, America served as a place where those people could come to bring those ideas to market and share them with the world.

The important thing is that the good we've done counterbalances but doesn't erase the bad. It just sits there holding down the other side of the scale. But at some point we're going to have to answer the question of what is it about our cultural DNA that makes us such a violent people, when no one has ever seriously threatened us with annihilation like other nations have dealt with.

As bad as the trail of tears was it was no annihilation of the armenians on their deathwalk for example.
