The rate of rape and sexual assault was 1.2 times higher for nonstudents than for students.
Because the majority of crimes (including rapes) happen to very poor people, homeless people, etc like I said in my post. If you only look at middle class+ girls, campus is the most likely place they're going to be raped.

Yes, they are most likely to be victimized in the place they spend the majority of their time. What an impressive and very useful assertion.

Obtain a concealed carry permit (if required in your state), get some training, and if someone tries to stick something of theirs inside something of yours without your blessing shoot them until they reconsider.
If we're going to come up with ridiculous ideas, (it's ridiculous because the girl is still more likely to have the weapon used against her) completely avoiding contact with men also works.

I'm the one trying to brainstorm solutions that will make girls safer, make men safer from false accusations, AND implicitly ENCOURAGE girls to have more sexual activity with men by making them feel safer.

I dunno why you guys have a problem with this.

So you admit that your standpoint is based on an irrational fear of something that isstatistically even less likelyto happen than a girl getting raped? Because rapes still outnumber false rape accusations by a HUGE margin.

My point is that rapes are still so high that fear of rape is not an irrational fear. Especially when you think about parents, who have all sorts of irrational fears about their children, rape outranks dozens of them on the list of things that might actually happen.
No, rapes outnumberprovenfalse rape accusations. The standard for a "false rape accusation" isINCREDIBLYhigh. The reality vast majority of "rapes" that fall in between trial and fradulence COULD be false rape accusations, but there is not enough evidence EITHER way. YOU assume the woman can't be abusive and can only be the victim here because of the "humiliation" of crying rape--you assume this even as some dumbass carries around a bed on campus, humiliating herself, when she clearly was NOT raped, JUST to be vindictive.

I'll be fair and say I assume guys can be despicable assholes; hence those recordings of those football players bragging about rape. Can you, for just a moment, admit you don't have a lot of conclusive info on "false" reporting because in order to be declared fraudulent the false charge needs to be egregious or essentially requires a confession from the woman.

You do know that women also victimize other women, right? And that it is a huge problem in the LGBT community?

And I'm dead serious about the firearm. Obtain the necessary permit, sign yourself up for some classes, and carry a concealed weapon with you.

we don't know this is true, there's virtually no studies of female on female sexual assault
They do physically assault each other a significant amount. Just because I said avoiding contact with men does not mean I was implying any kind of complementary substitute.

I gave some ways like 100 posts ago

So, things like a better healthcare system (including mental health), a reduction in ghettos and poverty, fixing the criminal justice system, etc. Unfortunately these kinds of solutions require hard work, special knowledge, are difficult, and don't get your face on TV screaming "NO MEANS NO!"
At this point the best way to reduce rapes specifically is measures that reduce crime generally.

What I am saying is, that if you are raped, right now you have recourse. You can report it to the police and if there is evidence of it, the police will pursue it. We have thankfully gotten past the days where rapes were ignored or scoffed at.

However, if you are falsely accused of rape on college campuses atm, you are treated as guilty regardless of evidence. You have no recourse. Your career (as a professor or teacher) is done. As a student, you are most likely forced to drop out and if not will be harassed on campus.

I'd also recommend any kind of grappling martial art. Getting out from under someone and choking them the fuck out is a good way for a smaller opponent to overcome a larger stronger one (e.g. Woman fighting a man).

Mist I was in a Barber shop on Saturday, I had been in this barbershop before. First time I had been in the shop I got my hair cut by a super cute girl, and I was nervous because I felt I didn't want to come off as flirty and machismo, because i was thinking I bet she's had to deal with that before, plus I was honestly just looking to get a haircut. We didn't talk much but she seemed nice.

I went back to the Barbershop Saturday, again just looking to get a haircut (In the back of my mind thinking she might be there). Low and be hold not only is she there, but she cuts my hair again. This time we're like super flirty and we talk about a lot of stuff and I'm really digging on this girl and hoping that I'm reading the signals right. Come to find out that it's a family joint and the woman cutting hair beside her is her mom, anyway I tip her big but I don't work up the guts to ask her out.

So I'm feeling it all week, thinking I got to try again. So I drove over to the place, do a quick once over to scope it out (think I see her in the back). Go back to the care, spend like 40 minutes trying to build up the balls to walk in. Finally I say fuck it walk it, take a seat, don't see her...damn. Woman at the front asks what I want, and I ask about shaves (since my hair is already cut!), she's like need one of the guys their not there tonight. Anyway I jet outta there not seeing her, feeling dumb as shit (she might have been in the backroom, I couldn't tell).

Anyway Mist what should I do?

Do I schedule a shave, hoping she's there?

If she's there do I just try and chat her up?

If she's not do I chat the dude up giving me a shave, be straight and ask about the girl (might be his daughter for all I know).

Do I scope the place again, wait until I see her. Would that make me a creepy stalker?

I shouldn't have spent the first 40 minutes working the courage up, shoulda just went in..sigh

You can be technically be accused of assault if you defend yourself like that. And then it's back to your word against his.

It is irrational, by the way. None of what you said here makes it "rational". Your evidence is that parents are idiots:News at 11. My hillbilly inlaws from Kentucky? Their congregations number 1 fear is gay marriage is a sign the devil has infected America.

Can I use this as proof that the devil infecting America is something we need to take seriously? (And we can extend this to broader polling. War on Christmas? Obama is a secret Muslim? Real fears, Mist. Maybe we should act on them.)

Hmm, about 6.6 million female students in that age range in the US, and about 7 million or so non-students. So only slightly more non-students than students, but 50% more reported rapes among the non-students. But the students are on-campus (more or less), while the non-students are everywhere else in the entire bleeping country. So its a bit like family feud- on campus is the top answer for location because there are too many choices on the "everywhere else list" so all the other possible choices only get a few votes each, so technically, from a certain point of view, Mist is right, but the totals for all those other possible answers add up to more than "on campus" by a significant margin (very roughly about 40% more or so) so overall over a 6 year stint campus is actually a bit safer. Campus isnt a concentration of rape, per se, its a concentration of women and thus female-oriented crimes, but the actual per-capita rate is lower.

Source of student numbers-How Many People Go To College Every Year? | How To E-D-U(dont forget to remove the 6.6 mill age 25+ students from the total student numbers.)
US census says roughly 27 million people in the 18-24 age bracket in the US, so maybe 13.6 million women, you can look up the exact numbers if you think 1-200k either way will help your case.

Mind you, what effect reporting to campus athorities rather than the police might have on the numbers I cant say, nor can I comment on if students are more or less likely to report in the first place. It seems a bit odd that you *can* report something just to the campus and not the cops. I dont know about other universities, but I know the University of Houston has its only police detachment forinstance.

If there isn't a fight you can easily choke someone out without leaving a single mark on them. And since the burden of proof in our legal system is beyond a reasonable doubt feel free to choke away my good friend!

I really really don't want to bring personal anecdotes into this, even though you did earlier in the thread, but I've had plenty of acquaintances of both genders (friends even, back when I had friends) on this pretty rapey campus over the past 15 years or so. I know more than a few girls who were raped, and only one guy who was accused of rape, and I'm 99.9% sure it was false. And most of my acquaintances on campus were male, because of which campus clubs I've been apart of as either a member of an advisor, so it's not merely selection bias.
