Those two statements are not equal. The rapist is an individual in society, with only the power an individual has. The false rape accusation commands the power of the state. These two things are not on the same level, one is infinitely more difficult to protect yourself against. Hence why there are so many controls on how state power is used--those didn't crop up over night, you know, bad things tend to happen when we let the dog off the leash. People keep alluding back to the the witch hunts for a reason, large social institutions without serious oversight and limitations are far more dangerous than individual actors in a society--even deranged, and despicable individuals like serial rapists.

Please illustrate where anyone arguing with you has been willing to give up or lower the presumption of innocence for some security on another topic. You keep alluding to the "country" doing that--but you're not discussing a topic with them. This board has always had a fiercely anti-authoritarian lean. The only defense you've mustered directed at the board is racial profiling (Which, by the way, I'm against and I've said that before.); butracial profiling does NOT strip the presumption of innocence. An arrest=/=does NOT equal a conviction, an investigation of someone is NOT guilt. (This might be a disconnect for you, and why people are baffled you feel the police asking the victim questions and checking out her story is somehow not "taking her seriously") In fact, we most certainly do already have gendered profiling in sex crimes. If two people are drunk, it's males who are considered at fault. We know this. Also, males in society are profiled for sexual misbehavior far more than females; that's why there are policies about where children can sit on planes, and men not being allowed in certain parks without children ect.

But back to the topic of us being overly defensive about this. By all means, take another shot at finding something from someone you've been arguing with that intimates they have wished for a lowering of the innocence standard; and THIS is where they are drawing the line for some reason (This is totally in your head, Mist. It's the worst kind of confirmation bias). If you can't prove that, then please stop spouting this "zomg this is an irrational defense."---no. The whole damn GG thread exists essentially because many people hate the presumption of guilt (For whatever reason it manifests, like guilt by association).
