They're $250k away with 44 hours to go. I think they'll make it.

Also, curious to see what people say about the game-engine, as I won't be downloading it.

As an aside, I'm becoming a fan of how they're releasing content for this game. I feel like we know more aboutCamelotUnchainedbefore they've even really started development than we ever knew about Copernicus...............

I like Jacobs approach for this. To be fair Curt's approach with 38S was to be super secret and hush so his rule the world game could suddenly take over the universe. I thinkCamelotChained is aiming for similar success as DAOC.

This and Star Citizen are tempting me to donate via kickstarter..

No question if they make it. He's willing to cough up a few mill himself, so no doubt the team would be able to get "someone" to fill in the missing 100k or 300k.

From the interview what struck me was his claim of being free from the burden of PvE development allowing them to rapidly produce PvP content. I have to be honest in an open world area control game, I cant imagine tons of new and creative content being added all the time. You dont want to item treadmill (I guess you dont, right?), you dont want to endlessly dilute the players in more and more zones, you dont want, you're not having BGs where you can make cool specific maps like an airship battle or similar. Maybe I'm not creative enough for pvp design but I dont see endless content patches being feasible.

Good for Mark if he gets there. I just hope he'll be able to implement all the stuff he is talking about. He is in super-hype mode for his fans. The problem is, now there is a huge chance for super-letdown.

That was a fantastic interview and I'm a tiny bit excited. I don't have money to throw at it but I put down 5$ because why not help support.

I'm really hoping for not another Paul Barnett hype train letdown that Warhammer Online: Age of the Flame Wizards Romple and Zarbix. They promised so much and never delivered on it, at least not in a feasible time frame.

I Really hope Mark and Andrew deliver on even half the shit they are hyping up this time around. I hated MJ, for Warhammer, until I heard about CU I really like his stance on the game and the MMO market.

I just want to PvP in a game with friends for years. I was hoping GW2 would fill that void but Arenanet just isn't the same Anet they used to be. I do think GW2 is a good game but its pretty clear they would rather churn out PVE crap and barely touch WvW and sPvP. Seriously the "huge" revamp to WvW was a bunch of passive damage bonuses via massive amounts of zerg surfin' grinding bullshit. I still think sPvP could become a big thing but WvW would need such big changes to not be a shitshow zergfest.

Yeah GW2 was a disappointment in the open PvP department. They hyped it up massively, then did absolutely nothing to support it or build on it after release. That said, WAR was even worse. I sometimes wonder if any of these devs actually seriously PLAYED DAoC, they all completely miss the mark on what made it fun. DAoC was awesome because the RVR was designed in such a way that you had constant variety and constant challenge, you could play the same character and you had almost a completely different game depending on whether you ran out solo, small group, 8 man, zerg, etc. And because of the free flowing nature of the RvR zones, you were always fighting different people in different places. Then you had the RR system, which scaled the rewards almost perfectly, to the point where you felt like you were progressing from the work you put into your character, but you didn't have to grind heavily to remain competitive. And the way the game and classes were designed made the gameplay really intense and face paced, you really had to be on your toes.

The (major) problem with GW2, imo, was that they seemed to miss all that entirely. Their WvW devolved into 2 or 3 massive zergs smashing against eachother, occasionally overpowering different objectives. The zones were so cramped and divided up that you couldn't roam freely and there was no room for small group or solo play, no room for maneuvering, it was primarily a numbers game. Then you throw in the lack of reward system and faction distinction and the weekly resets, and it got old pretty quickly.

Hopefully by now they've actually caught onto what made DAoC so awesome, but I doubt it. In the meantime, I reopened by old DAoC account, they're down to one server but there's still a fair bit of action there.

Azrayne, ever since the Kickstarter launched there has been quite a surge of folks playing on the classic freeshard serverUthgard.

Yeah I tried it out a while back, but it lagged like crazy and while I loved a lot of things about classic DAoC, the levelling wasn't one of them

Might be worth another shot though, just to see if the latency is better.

Some of us were smart enough to hold off on our pledges until now. =)

As I said before, it's typical of kickstarters to get most of their funding at the beginning and end of their campaigns. Not sure why that is.

Yesterday morning CU only had about 10,200 pledges, now they have over 12,000 and climbing fast. So the idea of "hidden investors" pushing the numbers up doesn't really wash.

CU does have a lot less small investors than Wastelands (60K) though, which pulled in a little over 2 mil. So theCamelotUnchainedfans are spending a lot more than usual.

Getting investors in the beginning and end make sense. I just don't understand the thinking of being "smart enough to hold off". If you truly support the project then you want the project to have an extremely strong start and steady climb so the chance of failure never really becomes a talking point.

It is amazing how soon people forget and hop the hype train.

I had to scroll back as to how I even read that in the first place. And it isn't sarcasm.

This game, Mark Jacobs, and anyone that supports it, should kick themselves in the nuts. Because that is what it is going to feel like in a year and a half anyway once this ridiculous grassroots dies down.

Mark Jacob'staughtMatt Firor everything he knows. Remember that. Have Mark Jacob's hire Rob Denton and then you all will have a case to at least have a semblance to be excited.

Seriously watching this right now is like watching a 6 year old kid putting his hand on top of the burning red stove because the color looks cool for the 3rd time in a week.
