Not a conspiracy, just snake oil.lol. Dude, you're makingCamelotUnchainedsound like a conspiracy. Which, just makes you look like a reincarnation of Ut.

That's a pretty astute observation. I mean very astute. I failed at trying to come up with this statement, but it's exactly what I was thinking. That's my point, he isn't selling anything but the ability for you to construct a dream game in your head and pretend that is what is going to be made.
It's not a conspiracy, it's just a very good marketing scheme for a niche gaming audience. He essentially took all the old school players, wrote down all their hopes and dreams in some blog posts, then made a shit load of videos and interviews where he didn't turn down one idea. He's basically said yes to everyone's idea.lol. Dude, you're makingCamelotUnchainedsound like a conspiracy. Which, just makes you look like a reincarnation of Ut.
I don't care what he was involved in. Based on his words alone, he is completely inept as a designer.I know what his point was, I just disagree.
There are far too many different scenario's being played out here to truly foresee it's success or failure. The fact that Jacob's is opening the kimono so early, should be encouraging. What MMO has EVER done that in the past?
Most developers try to hype a game that's already dead before it releases, ala WAR, SWG, Copernicus... This time their studio is operating out of a much smaller space with much more creative freedom.
And yes, I know Marc was a part of the WAR fiasco, but Jeff was a hired gun who did his job too well, foresaking honesty for hype. I see this story playing out differently.
I'm not soapboxing a success for this game, but I'm definitely not going to hop on the doom-n-gloom bandwagon simply because Jacob's is involved. He did make DAoC afterall.
But it's also true of almost every kickstarter, election campaign and lottery. People are paying (or voting) for their own hopeful projections. Denaut's statement is just an obvious truth about human nature that most children are aware of.That's a pretty astute observation. I mean very astute. He is an MMORPG developer. For what it's worth. And has a lot of knowledge about the inner workings of the industry.lol. Dude, you're makingCamelotUnchainedsound like a conspiracy. Which, just makes you look like a reincarnation of Ut.
In that case I retract the tail-end of that statementHe is an MMORPG developer. For what it's worth. And has a lot of knowledge about the inner workings of the industry.
No he's a dev doing other things, not mmos. I worked in the industry for a time back in the 90's, doesn't make me an expert. He is an MMORPG developer. For what it's worth. And has a lot of knowledge about the inner workings of the industry.
Never mind the part where I don't care whether or not it all ends up going from paper to print. As you say, this shit happens in all walks of life. The real point is, how often in the gaming industry have I salivated over what was actually on that piece of paper? But it's also true of almost every kickstarter, election campaign and lottery. Whoops! Got my PM's confused there sorry. The MMO dev I was thinking of posts here but I got those two mixed up.No he's a dev doing other things, not mmos. I worked in the industry for a time back in the 90's, doesn't make me an expert.
I'm in a similar camp with Caal. I'm not fan-boyingCamelotUnchained, but it sounds like a good niche game.Never mind the part where I don't care whether or not it all ends up going from paper to print. I only read one or two of his blogs and I watched a handful of the proof-of-concept videos on Kickstarter. It's not a conspiracy, it's just a very good marketing scheme for a niche gaming audience. While true in a general sense, you're comparing totally different levels of expectations. But it's also true of almost every kickstarter, election campaign and lottery. On this board every mmo that comes out some people are buying into the hype. The latest hype machine is WildStar, everyone seems to have bought into it. Before it was SWTOR, and before that... every mmo in existance.
Did you change usernames? I may have two people I know with the same resume then.Well, I amI worked on Vanguard and 2 other AAA MMORPGs, 3 including expansions as well as live teams. I don't work on AAA MMORPGs anymore, but I still work on multiplayer focused online games. So 8 years total.
Oh it's not a yes man thing. He just asks fans/players what they like in their perfect game and says yes or maybe to almost all of them as long as they are part of the oldschool/hardcore culture of MMORPGs.I only read one or two of his blogs and I watched a handful of the proof-of-concept videos on Kickstarter.
I didn't get the "yes man" vibe from him, but I'll assume you're following this much more closely than I am. Can you elaborate?
