LOL! That "MEGA MAN, MEGA MAN!!" video is fucking hysterical. And very correct. I wish he'd have done more, he was one of the few entertaining-yet-not-annoying video guys I've watched a vid from.

It's not though. Death is a consequence we've developed by not being really observant. Off hand, in Dark Souls, I can count on one hand the number of times I was killed strictly due to things completely unforeseen and that I could legitimately say would have taken omniscience to avoid. Sometimes the clues are small, but they are there.

A lot of people talk about the dragon as an example of something that gets a lot of people and isn't avoidable. Well, it is...the bridge is scorched and there are bodies covering it. The scene itself is letting you know something might be wrong If you saw a charred road with smoldering bodies on it in RL, would you strut across like nothing happened? h

People actually die to the hellkite wyvern? I thought the initial attack wasn't as strong as the ones it uses when it's already sitting on the gate, I am always put down to half health by the fly by burnination and can get below the bridge in time. There's a few things DS explains poorly, most important one imo being the value of stability on shields and how equip loadout works.

I tried to limit the spoilers when I played, but I was not interested in going through the game 20 times and to complete the side stories you have to use spoilers (especially for the Solaire quest considering you have to pull so good old EQ 'spoilts to even be able able to complete it on the first play through).

I'm pretty sure there's no reason you can't save Solaire legitly if you know what to do. It's what I'm going for with my current game, I already have Chaos Servant +2

There isn't. I saved him by accident on my first ever play through. It's just a matter of doing everything in the right order.

Key being "If you know what to do".

There's pretty much no way any sane person would figure out how to open that door in his first playthrough. Keep in mind there are zero rewards for the first 29 sacrifices, and it's not like the item doesn't have other uses. If you have to look that up, you might as well use the trick that saves you all the trouble.

That said, there's no real reason to save the dude anyway.

Narrative closure (sorta...) and being able to use him for the final fight. Anyway, the most silly thing about that Solaire quest is that you need to be of a covenant that is not his to save him and that you can screw it all up just by going past some geographical point that is unrelated to his narrative... The spherical knight storyline is more straight forward, but his locations don't make much sense.

Solaire was a pussy.. so i killed him..

But ya, also used no spoilers/walkthroughs or summons for the game.. was much more enjoyable... although i did get stuck a few times because i chose horrible items/techniques. However, finally made it through and had a lot of fun. I love the DS line, but think they could have done a much better job giving you SOME idea what stuff does... The covenants are hardly explained.. itemizing is strange (i used the same stuff almost the whole game).... For most of the game I had no idea what i was doing; i just ran around to interesting areas and killed everything in sight.... I actually went to the ghost area first (spent a whole weekend on it.. got to the end.. and was like.. wtf?). It really made me feel like the old EQ days of just running around and killing shit because it was interesting.

well, now that we know how the game mechanics work, there's no reason to play using any spoilers on DS2, or are there any big changes that would dumbfound someone who has only played DS1 and no DS2 beta?

If you're waiting for the PC release, I'm sure there will be plenty of spoiler free tip threads on Reddit etc.

From what I've heard about DS2 thus far (didn't try beta), going blind shouldn't be an issue. The mechanics are very similar to DS, and the tutorial is apparently more thorough.

PC release is delayed again? I thought they wanted to treat PC gamers fairly after the fuck up that DS PTD basically was?

Don't know about again, but it's delayed, been announced a while ago. They don't actually know when it's being released, probably late april/may. They said it's late specifically cause they don't want to make a shitty port like last time.

The latest soundbite from the devs is that they are "hoping it will be weeks, not months". But with nothing announced, I'm going to guess that means "months, not quarters". May/June is my guess.

First DS2 review and also a big info dump
Dark Souls II - First review - NeoGAF
It's also kind of spoileriffic.

Here's the spoiler-free conclusion. My edits in bold:
overall: 90%

breakdown:

Graphics:7/10(Some areas have shitty textures)
Sound 7/10
Singleplayer:10/10
Multiplayer: was not available for the review

Summary: "Congrats From, you made the game more user-friendly WITHOUT MAKING IT EASIER".[semi-spoiler removed]It's a shame that some areas look worse than other, but DS2 will offer the player an incredibly motivating, addictive experience none the less

In all my PS3 PVP fights I was about 50/50 in wins losses. Granted, a lot of this was comically due to someone invading me while I was fighting with someone else, but still.

On the PC, after the third super hack twink god showed up, I just started ALT F4ing as soon as they got close to me.. I generally tried to make them chase me as long as humanly possible, then disconnect. I must have done this 50 times. I never had any corruption issues.

I really wish they had made an optimized PS4 version of this with high ress graphics. I wonder if they'll work on that in conjunction with their PC version.

I don't get why sound is getting so poor ratings, it got those with DS1 as well and I think the sound was perfect. Lordran is a dead nation, crumbling all around, the only new life appearing here are cursed people dumped from the human realms and the very quiet atmosphere conveyed that just so well.

The voice acting is super lame though. Having 98% of all sentences end by 'hehehe' and include three times 'hollow' did not help one bit, but still.
