Got mine up and running today too. Can only get the RAM to 2933 (it's 3000), but I'm okay with that for now. Not sure what you did differently. I updated to the F6 BIOS (latest on Gigabyte's site) and XMP profile.

Ah ya figured that was it. The Flare X I'm using was one of the only 3200mhz kits on the QVL.

So, I'm thinking about just splitting my new pc stuff and only doing half now, and half at another point later. It would be something like these 4 things

Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core - System Build - PCPartPicker

Throw in my current 250GB SSD, 3TB HDD, 960, and PSU. Any thoughts on those 4? Any better options?

Also I really need help finding a case. Size isn't really an issue, so large cases are fine. I prefer not having any lights, so not having a window is also preferable. I'm looking for it to be as quiet as possible, and I live in Florida and it's usually hot as fuck so that's a random thought. I'm open to get fans if I need to because the case ones are too loud.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Edit: Maybe get the Fractal R5? Would I be better off with the h110i, and maybe moving the back exhaust fan to the front? Or mount the radiator in the front pulling in with just the single exhaust? Would that keep it cool enough?

I have a R5 with a H110 in the front that keeps an overclocked i7920 pretty chill. You will probably have to fiddle around hdd storage mount to get everything to fit, and for some reason the screw holes in the front on the R5 didn't seem to line up with the radiator.

looks like my seven year old 570 crapped the bed last night which sucks because i was going to wait until i could swing a new monitor and gpu together and upgrade both. i have 1080p now but want to try either 2k 144 or 4k with overclock, i was going to check the price drops when the new monitors come out and decide on a decent combo then. the rest of my system is moderately beefy (4770k @ 4.0 etc). i could grab a 980 and wait but am tempted just to update both now with a 1080ti and monitor. what to do, what to do...

edit: turns out my mb's on board video is almost as good as my 570 so holding out ha, ha... guess that's what happens when you upgrade every 7 years.

Do you just use 1 fan for exhaust in the back? How quiet is the computer? Are the stock fans fine or should I be looking into new ones?

I've got two R5's at my house. The stock fans are pretty good and I wouldn't waste any money in replacing them. They're very quiet fans. In other words, if you're getting additional fans for the case, that is fine, but I think it would be a waste of your money to replace the stock case fans.

Random review that has some interesting notes on the stock fans from the R5: 15 Case Fans Tested: Ultimate 140 mm Roundup - Overclockers

My primary computer is an R5 using the stock fans (1 rear exhaust, 1 front pulling in) plus another extra fan pulling in the front, and an NZXT Kraken X60 in a push/pull config on top of the case (this was a total bitch to setup, fwiw. I hate having the radiator in the front of a case. Mounting this thing on the top was just plain not fun but that had to do with my motherboard from what I recall more than the case itself).

The other R5 I have is on my HTPC which is pretty much whisper quiet and it is using the stock fans.

They are a new player to the game I think. I've only heard of them since the 9 series nVidia cards, but from what I heard from even this thread is they are pretty solid, and often times the best deals around.

Well, I guess I'll find out Saturday. I still need to pick a case. I don't think I'm going to use an R5 this go around, mainly because I need more room for all the shit I have accumulating in my rig nowadays.

I had two Zotac AMP 780s for like a year or two without any issues at all. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure I had a Zotac 580 as well.

I went from an Apevia X Jupiter Full tower to the R5 Black windowless case, and the difference in noise seemed like night and day. I have one 120mm fan on the bottom, one 140mm in the back, and two 140mm fans in the front for the radiator. If your worried about loud fans you may want to consider Noctua fans, or just run your system fans at a lower speed. Honestly, I have been so impressed with Fractal Design cases, so I bought a Node 202 and Core 500 for a future mini-itx Ryzen build and a mini-itx Coffeelake build.

I can second the "quietness" of the R5, as well as the note on Noctua fans. In fact I just bought 10 new Noctua fans for my new rig. I went with 3 of the Noctua NF S12A ULN 120mm and 7 of the Noctua NF A14 ULN. I'm using a different case this go around because I need more room but the 3 x 120mm are going in the front of the case, 4 x 140mm are being used in push/pull for my radiator and the other 3 x 140mm are being used in the rear and bottom of the case.

Edit: Here is what I think will include everything in the final build (a lot of stuff I already have): Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB AMP Edition, Air 740 ATX Full Tower - System Build - PCPartPicker. Will post pics tomorrow.

Those are the same Noctua I'm using I think, really happy with them. I have 2x in front for intake and 1 back, 1 top for out. And 2x hsf on the heatsink. The packaging was really good too.

Yea, quality pricey fans like that are good for multiple builds. The up-front costs suck, but they can last for years if not a decade+.
