I'm really hoping that it is just some technical hurdle with loading that they couldn't overcome and that was his way of being funny about it. If it's because of fucking immersion then somebody needs to slap his ass and remind him that immersion was broken the second we jumpstarted a several hundred year old starship.

yeah... so is that to be taken literally? as in, as soon as Australia says it's 9/9 then we can play? that would be like... 2pm on 9/8 or something... I can't do math. or is that saying that when it is 9/9 somewhere specific, but implied to be PST?

Yes, I would take it literally. If you can get a copy on 9/8 in the US you should be able to play on 9/8 at some point during the day. I think this is the smart way of doing it that way it because it might lessen the load a little when the big logjam happens at midnight eastern time on 9/9.

You can easily get a copy for 9/8 just go digital. Everything is pre-loaded, so glad I went with PSN from the start, and I saved 10 bucks.

Now if they say something like digital doesn't count, Bungie can go suck a fat one.

I'd be surprised if digital went live at any time besides midnight EST.

Digital won't go live early. It'll go live at Midnight Eastern. That's the easiest thing for them to control. They can't control the mom and pop stores that might sell it early and that's your only hope of playing it on 9/8 unless Amazon or another company fucks up and gets it to you a day early.

But that's not congruent with what they said. When it's 9/9 and you have your copy you can play. Digital as their copy on 9/7.

Pre-load is like Steam, key files are missing (i.e. no executable) until PSN decides to give it to you on 9/9. Without that you don't actually have anything.

That said, I'm still somewhat regretting getting a physical copy now. I expected to have 2.5 hours to install the game before the servers went up at 3AM EDT but instead I'm going to lose an hour and a half or so going to pick it up and then installing it (since the BR drive is so slow that a large game install can easily take an hour to complete).

Are you saying this because bungie has said this is what they are doing or are you assuming this is how they are doing it. I ask because in this situation they gave a blanket statement. On top of that they said you can play when the servers go live not when they unlock it player side

Bungie hasn't said anything about pre-load unlocking, but I don't see it being at all likely that Sony will release it prior to the actual street date for that region. From what I remember, PSN pre-loads have unlocked at midnight PDT in the past, though some have been earlier (GTA V was shortly after midnight EST, etc.).

They said "when you play is between you and your retailer".

If you pre-order via the PS store, your retailer is Sony. If Sony says preloads only unlock on the release date in your timezone (a la Steam), then you won't play before then, and it's your retailer decision.

Thus Bungie is not lying.

Well... Sony's been pushing this game big time, so I wouldn't be surprised if they unlock it at the same time that Bungie does.

Right. I mean it's bungies street date not Sony's. Bungie doesn't seem to care whether or not the street date is broken. With a lot of games with required online play no one cares about unlocking it because you can't play without the server being on anyways
